What to see in Kislovodsk on your own? My review

Author: Alina

Today's hero of the story will be the Russian Baden-Baden - Kislovodsk.

Let me decipher: in a small town in a valley between the Caucasus Mountains it is very resort-like, relaxed and beautiful. There is less fuss here than in Sochi, and in general, Kislovodsk is the place to be when you are over 25, you have your tourist eye on the domestic open spaces and don’t mind getting some treatment: a narzan in the galleries or active hiking in the mountains.

I lived in Kislovodsk for almost a year. I almost felt like a local and, perhaps, I will return to these parts again. So I’ll be happy to tell you what to see in Kislovodsk and the surrounding area.

You can come to Kislovodsk freely. Nobody requires certificates, certificates or tests. But the mask regime indoors is still in effect.
  • For apartments for a stay in the city for 1-3 days, look at Sutochno.ru.
  • And for sanatorium treatment, go to Sanatory.ru.

National Park

The main attraction of the resort is its unique park. He is very handsome and well-groomed. It has many interesting routes and attractions, and above all, the famous Kislovodsk healing springs.

If tourists come to the city for a couple of days, then first of all they should visit the National Park, as there are a lot of interesting things that you should definitely see in Kislovodsk. It is especially beautiful here in autumn. Vacationers in 2 days will be able to get an idea of all the main beauties and attractions, as well as restore strength even in such a short time.

The park is always full of vacationers who want not only to walk in beautiful places, but also to receive medical treatment. For this purpose, there are special paths for therapeutic walking - terenkurs. There are a total of 4 routes of varying difficulty and length in the park:

  1. 1,700 meters long . It's called review. There are small climbs here that anyone can easily overcome.
  2. Length 5,800 meters . This route allows you to see some of the attractions of the National Park.
  3. It is considered the longest. Its length is 13,200 meters. It is specially created for those vacationers for whom heavy loads are contraindicated and are recommended to simply walk a lot.
  4. This route is the most difficult , as pedestrians will have to overcome rather steep climbs, the steepness of which reaches 13 degrees.

The National Park has many attractions that tourists can see in a few days.

First of all, you need to visit the famous Narzan Gallery, after which you can go for a walk along the paths of the park. Experts say that this way the healing waters of Kislovodsk are better absorbed by the body.

Where to eat

I can offer 3 types of food:

  1. canteens , they are cheap and most have a normal interior. The quality of the food varies, but for those who are not picky it will be fine. I advise you not to go to canteens in the evening. Little choice and washed out food.
  2. Restaurants – there is a huge choice here. To begin with, I recommend the Veranda restaurant right on the resort boulevard. The prices are average, but the interior, the waiters, the cuisine are all top notch. Musicians play in the evening. Of course, there is a choice of Caucasian restaurants and kebab houses, but the reviews are different. Need to find.
  3. Fast food - here you can eat on the go. There are various bakeries and pie shops with various national pastries. I recommend visiting the Kislovodsk fair not far from the fortress. Homemade baked goods, cheeses, honey, herbs, and pickles are sold here.

Given such a varied choice, I see no point in cooking myself in a rented apartment. Prices in stores are standard and you won’t experience big savings.

Maybe you can cook borscht in pans, but that’s not for everyone.

Narzan gallery

This is an indoor pavilion equipped with springs with different types of medicinal waters. Please note that the Narzan Gallery has technical breaks during which it is closed. The Narzan Gallery operates according to the following schedule:

  • from 7.00 to 9.00;
  • from 11.00 to 14.00;
  • from 16.00 to 19.00.

You can drink medicinal water here for free. There are 5 types of mineral water in total:

  • sulfate cold;
  • sulfate hot;
  • dolomite cold;
  • dolomite hot;
  • general narzan.

If there is no doctor's prescription, then you should not drink sulfate and dolomite narzan in large quantities. General purpose mineral water is recommended for healthy people.

Philharmonic named after Safronova

A very nice bonus for all vacationers at the resort. The idea of creating a kursaal, which to this day adorns the resort, belonged to the outstanding musician Vasily Ilyich Safonov.

His youth passed here, and the director of the Moscow Conservatory decided to leave his contribution to the development of the culture of Kislovodsk.

You can visit the Philharmonic with a guided tour every Thursday at 15.00. Or buy a ticket to one of the performances on their website.

All music lovers should know that in neighboring Essentuki there is a Concert Hall named after. Chaliapin , where our stars come to perform with enviable regularity.

Other attractions of Kislovodsk National Park

If tourists come to the city for a few days, then the National Park is something that is definitely worth seeing in Kislovodsk in the fall. Travelers in 3 days will be able to go through all the healing routes, try the healing Narzan and see the historical and architectural sights located in the park:

  • flower calendar;
  • memorial to the Russian poet Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov;
  • the Mirror Pond and Glass Stream pavilions, built in 1839;
  • bridge "Lady's whim";
  • red stones and many other interesting places.

In autumn, the park is no less beautiful than in summer, and walks along its landscaped alleys really have a healing effect on the human body. Beautiful melodies about the resort city are constantly heard in the park. The attractions of the park are specially located at a fairly large distance from each other, so that during walks vacationers can strengthen the body while walking, admiring the surrounding beauty.

Have a delicious dinner

A necessary item on any trip is delicious food. In addition to the classic list: kebabs, kebabs, khychins and fresh vegetables, I recommend stopping by the locals’ favorite cafe and trying the legendary Kislovodsk donuts.

"Old park"

The cafe is located on the territory of the Resort Park and is a pleasant place to dine while enjoying the evening cool of the trees. The chef skillfully prepares lamb shashlik and kebab, cheese pies, and delicious jam.

"Tea House"

The restaurant is located on the road to the Honey Falls complex. So, on the way back from the extreme park, stop by here and try the most delicious solyanka, lula kebab, veal, and, of course, khichina - round flatbreads stuffed with potatoes, cheese, etc.

"Khinkalnaya"

Authentic restaurant on the street. Sedlogorskaya will delight lovers of Georgian cuisine - they serve fresh khinkali, khachapuri, pkhali, wine and Natakhtari lemonade. A table must be reserved in advance.

"Snowflake"

The cafe has been operating since the early 1960s and since then has remained a favorite place to visit for both tourists and locals. The menu includes a variety of burgers, fries, salads and other fast food. Be sure to try the donuts and milkshake.

Cable car

If tourists come to the famous Russian resort with children, then they should definitely take them on the Kislovodsk cable car, which offers magnificent views of the city. This is something you should definitely see in Kislovodsk in the fall with your children.

You can reach the lower cable car along route No. 3 of the National Park. The cable car operates from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00.

A one-way ticket for adults costs 200 rubles. A child ticket costs 120 rubles. This price is only for children aged 5 to 10 years. Children under 5 years old can ride for free.

Where to go with children?

In addition to health procedures, you can go to the dolphinarium with your child. The performance will be interesting not only for children, but also for parents. Another option for a cultural program is to visit the circus and look at trained animals and funny clowns.

The circus program is not inferior to large circuses in Russian cities. The cable car is no less a favorite entertainment for children. In the amusement park, every child will find entertainment to their liking: trampolines, a Ferris wheel, cotton candy. Bring some nuts with you to feed the squirrels, they are practically tame there. And don’t forget to go to the ostrich farm; children love to look at the long-legged ostriches.

Every traveler should have Kislovodsk on their list of must-see cities. Clean air filled with the smell of pine, healing Narzan, hot mineral springs and other therapeutic and healing procedures will not leave anyone indifferent.

Main Narzan baths

The city was originally built in the first half of the 19th century as a resort; it has preserved many historical and architectural monuments, which are essentially its symbol. One of these unique objects is the Main Narzan Baths.

If travelers don’t know what they should see first in Kislovodsk in the fall, then they should definitely mark this monument on their schedule. In 4 days it is difficult to see all the interesting places in the city, but it is definitely worth a visit.

This is the most beautiful and unusual building in Kislovodsk, which was built in 1901 by the architect N. Klepnin. The building in the Moorish style is distinguished by an abundance of unique decor decorating its façade. Many details are decorated using:

  • stucco moldings;
  • bas-reliefs;
  • thread.

The building is also decorated with stepped turrets and majolica panels laid out on the façade. It was created by the artist Vrubel himself. There is simply no other similar architectural monument in Russia. According to a number of art historians, the building of the Main Narzan Baths is similar to the Hindu temple of Angkor Wat, which is located in Cambodia.

Inside the semicircular galleries there are places for receiving therapeutic water procedures:

  • two swimming pools with warm mineral water;
  • massage rooms;
  • hydrotherapy treatment rooms;
  • sauna.

This unique architectural monument even today serves as a health complex, in which resort guests are offered more than 2.5 thousand health-improving and therapeutic water procedures.

Where to look for housing

If you didn’t come with a ticket to a sanatorium, then in Kislovodsk there are a dozen hotels and dozens of guest houses and private hotels.

In March, I rented a room for 1000 rubles in a guest house located in a building 1902 . Its advantages : 3.5m ceilings, thick walls, large area, windows and location. Cons : used furniture and spartan bath.

A little later they showed me other rooms, which were 300 rubles more expensive, but with better repairs and features.

Walking around the city, I noticed several wonderful hotels with good locations and stars on the fuselage. After checking in the hotel search engine, I found out that rooms start from 4,000 rubles. Everything else is somewhere in the middle.

To rent housing, choose the center of the village. This is not difficult to do, since the bulk is already located here. Where are the good areas to rent?

There are 3 of them:

  1. The most expensive area along Kurortny Boulevard
  2. Good place to rent near the Kislovodsk Fortress
  3. Another landmark between the railway. station and Dzerzhinsky Avenue and Zhelyabova Street.

If you find a hotel here, everything will be within walking distance. But keep in mind that Kislovodsk is a hilly city and even in some places in the center you need to use stairs all the time.

Kislovodsk fortress

This is the first stone structure that was built at the time of the founding of Kislovodsk by order of Emperor Alexander I in 1803. This is a must-see in Kislovodsk.

In the city itself and its surroundings there are many places where it is very beautiful in autumn, but if travelers are limited in time, they should visit the most important monuments and attractions of Kislovodsk.

One of them is an ancient fortress, in which the city’s historical and local history museum has been operating since 1962.

What to take with you?

  • — Holidays in November are aimed at excursion programs, so you will need comfortable shoes.
  • — Don’t forget about warm clothes (jackets, hats, scarves). They will come in handy for evening walks.
  • — Swimming accessories are also needed no matter what time of year you come. If the beach season is closed, then trips to hot mineral springs will be organized. Many resorts have swimming pools.
  • — An umbrella will also be useful; it can rain at any time of the year.
  • — If you plan to visit the Kislovodsk Cathedral and other holy places, then women need to take care of a scarf and a skirt.

Advice: Try to shop for clothes before arriving on vacation. There are not a lot of shops in Kislovodsk and the price tag will be inflated.

Dacha of Fyodor Chaliapin

Another Kislovodsk museum that the townspeople are proud of. This is a unique building, which in 1917 the great Russian singer rented as a dacha for himself and his family. The building, built by the famous architect Khojaev in the Art Nouveau style, has an original exterior.

It organically combines original turrets, lucarnes (window openings in the roof slope) and wood carvings. The building was built by order of the merchant Ushakov in 1903 as a guest house. The Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin Museum opened there in the second half of the 20th century.

Local historians collected exhibits for him bit by bit. This is currently the only museum of Fyodor Chaliapin in Russia.

Buy keepsakes

Spices, tea and jam are usually brought as gifts from Kislovodsk. In addition to the already classic version for these regions made from pine cones, you will also find other original ones: from wild garlic, eggplant, radish and even pepper. You can grab balham - a thick potion made from the resin of coniferous trees, melted butter and honey. They say that the remedy is very effective for colds. And all thanks to the key ingredient - resin, which has beneficial properties.

We also recommend trying and buying a fashionable delicacy as a gift - urbech (paste made from apricot kernels, sunflowers, sesame seeds).
