Sights in 1 day Museums Sightseeing tours Stories, routes and tips from tourists Where to stay in Novorossiysk Where to go from Novorossiysk for 1 day |
Novorossiysk in 1 day is a standard option for exploring the city during a vacation in the Krasnodar region. The city was founded in 1838 and received the title of hero city in the last century. Its history is closely connected with the Great Patriotic War, after which Novorossiysk was practically rebuilt. In addition to visiting the war memorials, it is worth taking a leisurely stroll along the developed pedestrian zone along the Black Sea and visiting local wineries. Before your trip, check the weather in Novorossiysk for 1 day, as the city is known for its strong north-east winds.

Architecture and monuments of the city of Novorossiysk
Among the things you should definitely see in Novorossiysk, it is necessary to highlight monuments and monuments, of which there are really a lot here. Architecture lovers will also find something to admire, as there are plenty of beautiful buildings in the city.
Memorial "Border of Defense"
- Address: st. Tsemesskaya. Transport stop "Kirillovsky turn".
The incredibly expressive memorial complex was inaugurated in 1978 on the 35th anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazis. It was in this place that the line of defense of the Soviet troops passed, blocking the path of the Wehrmacht armadas, eager for the oil of Baku and Grozny.
The monumental ensemble includes a podium with memorial steles, the skeleton of a railway carriage riddled with bullets and shell fragments, as well as a monument towering over the road. It is a reinforced concrete pylon, from which the hands of soldiers, clutching machine guns, seem to grow. The memorial looks solemn and impressive.
Fountain "Giving Water"
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop "Hotel Chernomorskaya".
Novorossiysk, like some other cities in southern Russia, does not have its own fresh water storage facilities, so there have always been certain problems with water supply here. In the last third of the last century, the situation worsened so much that water was brought into the city by tankers. The construction of a water pipeline helped to overcome the crisis.
In honor of this event, a fountain-monument was installed on the embankment. Its monumental component is the sculpture of a beautiful girl crouched on her knees, from whose hands streams of water flow into the pool. Over time, the statue began to collapse. In 2006, a new statue cast from stainless steel was installed in its place. The townspeople love the monument very much, and tourists throw coins into the fountain to return to Novorossiysk again.
Monument "Exodus"
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop "TK Gallery".
The background to the appearance of the monument is connected with the tragic moments of the Civil War era. Then about 50 thousand people, among whom were refugees, officers and soldiers of the White Guard, tried to leave Russia on foreign ships docked in the port. There wasn't enough space for everyone. More than a third of people were never able to emigrate.
In memory of this event, a monument was erected on the embankment of Novorossiysk in 2013. The sculptural composition depicting a White Guard pulling a horse by the reins to the sea is inspired by a scene from the film “Two Comrades Served.” By the way, the statue of the officer bears a resemblance to V. Vysotsky, who played the role of Lieutenant Brusentsov in the film, forced to shoot the faithful steed that rushed after the sailing ship into the sea.
City Palace of Culture building
- Address: st. Sovetov, 9. Transport stop "Kutuzova".
A magnificent monument of Stalinist architecture, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Novorossiysk, was inaugurated in 1937. This is a real palace with an antique eight-column portico divided by a high arch.
The decor of the building is luxurious. Carved cornices, stucco moldings, and luxurious column capitals attract the eye. Above the central entrance there will be a high relief depicting the city's coat of arms. The exterior of the building makes a wonderful impression.
Golitsyn Castle
- Address: Sukhumskoe highway, 31.
Those who want to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of an old German castle should use their imagination and explore the ruins of the dacha of academician Boris Borisovich Golitsyn, the so-called “Golitsyn Castle”.
The dacha was built by a seismologist in 1901 in the Gothic style, characteristic of German architecture of the 19th century. Now all that remains are ruins, which are under the protection of the Ministry of Defense.
Ruins of the Tsementnikov House of Culture
- Address: M-4 Don, 1541st kilometer.
Near Polyclinic No. 3, near the Sukhumi highway, you can see an outstanding monument of Soviet architecture, which is currently in a deplorable state. The ruins of the Tsementnikov Palace of Culture remind everyone how terrible war can be, because it suffered from shelling during the Second World War.
Novorossiysk lighthouse
- Address: Serebryakov embankment.
It is also recommended to visit the local Lighthouse in Novorossiysk on your own - a small metal structure in the center of Tsemes Bay, which is not functioning today. But it is not he himself that is interesting, but the pier, which is distinguished by its extraordinary length.
It's a nice place to walk or ride a bike, and you can also fish right from it. But it is especially recommended to visit this attraction at dawn – the views awaiting guests are simply amazing.
Sculptural composition “Girl on a Dolphin”
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop “Park im. Lenin".
Tourists love to take pictures at this elegant monument, which townspeople often call “The Dolphin and the Mermaid.” Indeed, the metal sculpture, decorated in bronze, symbolizes the carefree nature of a holiday at a southern resort.
Sculptures of a dolphin pleased with himself and a beauty sitting on him, whose hair is blown by the sea breeze, are placed on a granite boulder. If you want your wish to come true, make it and rub the metal back of the charming inhabitant of the depths.
Monument to Geshe Kozodoev
- Address: Sudzhuk Spit. Transport stop "NGMA".
Perhaps the most colorful monument in Novorossiysk is located on the Sundzhuk Spit. In 2010, on a small island, often covered by waves, a monument to the charming adventurer Geshe Kozodoev was erected.
The bronze embodiment of the hero of the immortal comedy “The Diamond Arm” walks on the water with a snag on which the swimming trunks of Lelik, no less beloved by the people, are developing. It is worth noting that the sculpture bears no resemblance to the magnificent artist Andrei Mironov, who played Gesha in the film. However, the art object does not lose anything from this.
Death Valley and Monument Explosion
- Address: Novorossiyskaya street, Myskhako.
In the village of Myskhako near Novorossiysk there is a memorial complex called “Death Valley”. It is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War, drawing citizens and tourists to the tragic events of 1943, when the heroic defense of Malaya Zemlya was carried out.
For this small area of territory, fierce battles went on for 7 months, the land was burning in the literal sense of the word.
1250 kilograms for each soldier defending the bridgehead - this is the weight of dropped shells, bombs, and mines. Today there is an interesting monument here called “The Explosion”, it was assembled from the remains of ammunition. The inscription on the monument preserves this figure and conjures descendants to remember the feat of the defenders of Novorossiysk.
Monument to the Wives of Sailors
- Address: Novorossiysk Republic Street.
In the center of the city, on the embankment, in 2010, a sculpture by Alexander Suvorov and Alexander Izmodenov was installed, called “Monument to the Sailor” or “Monument to the Sailor’s Wife.”
The sculpture depicts a woman with a child in her arms, accompanying a sailor on his voyage. She personifies the loyalty and devotion of wives raising children and waiting for their husbands from a long sea voyage.
Monument to Pushkin
- Address: Park Alley.
A.S. Pushkin died before the city of Novorossiysk was founded. But this did not stop the residents of Novorossiysk from creating a monument to the poet, because his work is familiar from childhood and loved by all Russians. The monument was opened in 1999. Its authors are sculptor Alexander Suvorov and architect Ivan Krikun.
The monument is made of bronze. A.S. Pushkin is depicted sitting on a bench with a manuscript and a pen in his hands: it seems that the poet was “caught” at the moment of creating a literary work. On the pedestal there are lines from the poem “To Chaadaev”: “My friend, let us dedicate our souls to our homeland with wonderful impulses.”
Cape of Love
- Address: emb. Admiral Serebryakov.
Part of the Novorossiysk embankment in Tsemes Bay is called Cape of Love. This is a wonderful observation deck, which was captured in his work by the artist Ivan Aivazovsky. The history of the place is covered in legends. Once upon a time there was a site where slaves were traded.
But even forced people are capable of strong feelings. The lovers could not be together and threw themselves off a cliff so that after death their souls would be united. There are other love stories associated with this place, because it is no coincidence that this is the Cape of Love.
Monument to the Black Sea anchovy
- Coordinates: 44.694125, 37.791626.
In 2021, a monument to a small fish that lives in the Black Sea - anchovy - appeared in the city next to the fish factory. It is believed that anchovy saved townspeople from hunger in different historical periods - both during the mountains of military operations and during perestroika.
The monument by Alexander Suvorov is an image of a school of fish on a granite pedestal, the inscription on it reads: “Anchovy from grateful Novorossiysk residents.”
Opportunity to find a job: where to get a job
The population in Novorossiysk is predominantly young, so the share of able-bodied citizens in this city is 65% of the total number of residents. Local residents note that the demand for work exceeds the supply. In this regard, Novorossiysk employers sometimes offer low salaries. Good employment opportunities are available for those who have “connections” among their acquaintances.
In order to have a decent salary in Novorossiysk, it is worth working in the following areas:
- construction;
- oil industry;
- gas sector;
- cargo transportation.
Since Novorossiysk is a port city, sailors, tallymen and dockers have good opportunities for summer employment here. Security guards, teachers and nurses will also find work.
Majestic cathedrals and churches of the city
There are not too many operating churches in the seaside city, and the construction of a Lutheran church is currently ongoing. However, connoisseurs of iconic architecture will find something to see in Novorossiysk.
Holy Assumption Cathedral
- Opening hours: daily, from 7:00 to 19:00.
- Telephone.
- Address: st. Vidova, 26. Bus station bus stop.
The history of the temple is very eventful. It was erected in 1906 and initially consecrated in the name of the icon of “All Who Sorrow,” since the Russian-Japanese War had just ended, in the battles of which many sailors died. During the years of persecution of religion, the cathedral was closed, and during the war the building was also heavily damaged by shelling and bombing.
The temple was restored from ruins after the liberation of Novorossiysk, however, in 2011 it was destroyed by fire. The new church was erected and consecrated in 2013. The cathedral is an excellent example of Russian religious architecture and has all the colorful features characteristic of churches in Suzdal or Vladimir .
Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator
- Opening hours: daily, from 8:00 to 19:00.
- Address: st. Sacco and Vanzetti, 15. Transport stop “Sudostalskaya Street”.
Quite a lot of ethnic Armenians have always lived in Novorossiysk. At the beginning of this century, the community managed to obtain permission to build its own temple, which was consecrated in 2008. The building, cruciform in plan, was erected in a characteristic Armenian style.
The façade is lined with pink tuff; four octagonal drums with lancet windows cover figured hipped domes topped with gilded domes. The highest of them cuts 30 m into the sky. The temple is rightfully one of the architectural highlights of the city.

Sitting on an elegant bridge over a small pond, it’s pleasant to watch its inhabitants - fussy mallards, phlegmatic carps and turtles. The park has several playgrounds for children, sports grounds, and attractions.
Entertainment

The unique agro-estate offers various recreation options for large families, friendly groups and couples in love. The vast area is planted with grapevines, and there is also a small winery that produces popular varieties of white, red and rose wine.

The planetarium hall can accommodate up to 60 visitors at a time and regularly hosts thematic lectures. In the center there is a projector that creates on the dome screen an image of the starry sky and various natural phenomena: the aurora, the location of stars in the solar system, the movement of comets and asteroids.
Abrau-Durso
The picturesque village in the suburbs of Novorossiysk is known to every connoisseur of noble wines. Once upon a time, on the shore of a mountain lake with emerald water, there was an estate of the royal family. The gentle slopes around are planted with grapevines.
A winery has been operating here since 1882, thanks to which the famous champagne brand appeared. Anyone can visit the local sparkling wine museum, learn the details of production and, of course, taste the best samples.
Tourists also appreciate the Abrau-Durso area for its wide beaches, fresh air and the opportunity to walk through beautiful forests.
Equestrian theater
In the cultural and tourist complex "Russia", located in Abrau-Durso, there is a unique equestrian theater. Horses participate in all his performances. Vibrant show programs are full of stunt performances; riders demonstrate unrivaled ability to stay in the saddle.
There is a school attached to the theater where horse riding is taught and hippotherapy sessions are held.

The farm area is over 500 hectares, part of the territory is open for excursions. These are vineyards, some factory workshops and a museum where tastings and master classes are organized: the sommelier teaches you to recognize the components of a wine bouquet and distinguish between drinks with your eyes closed.
Nature of Novorossiysk and its environs
In the vicinity of the city limits there are many attractions, a visit to which should definitely be included in a tour of Novorossiysk.
Sudzhuk Spit
- Coordinates: 44.684027, 37.803179.
The natural monument is named after the ancient fortress Sudzhuk-Kale, which was once located in these places. The spit forms a lagoon closed from the sea.

Lunacharsky waterfall second
- Coordinates on the map: 44.722802, 37.726786.
This place is extremely picturesque and beautiful, but when visiting it you need to be careful - there is a big risk of ending up on a pathetic semblance of a waterfall in the intense summer heat. If you come here in early spring or during a non-dry summer, you will be able to admire the unique beauty of the waterfall and its mesmerizing natural surroundings.
Mount Sorcerer
- GPS coordinates: 44.662420, 37.724822.
In the southern part of Novorossiysk, a natural object of a different nature stands out - Mount Myskhako, or Sorcerer. Several simple routes lead to it at once - even a child or a pensioner in uniform can do it. The views here are most picturesque, nature shines, and the attraction is often called a place of power.
Sugarloaf Mountain

Population density: statistics
As of 2021, the city's population is 273,278 people. It is noted that in the summer the number of residents increases significantly and overpopulation occurs. Positive population dynamics at this time are formed thanks to immigrants and visitors. However, population censuses in the city are not conducted during the summer season.
Among the local residents, in addition to Russians, there are Armenians, Ukrainians, Tatars and other peoples. The official population density is 3369.64 people/km².
Infrastructure, transport
Currently, this southern city is developing at a rapid pace. New houses are being built and infrastructure is being improved. A large customs office is located in Novorossiysk. Local residents note that customs clearance through it is as easy as possible and without delay.
As for public transport, in the city it is represented by buses and trolleybuses. Trolleybus service is available in all major areas of the city. Buses partially duplicate trolleybus routes and serve the suburbs. Novorossiysk has a railway and bus station.
Compulsory home insurance
For many individuals, home insurance in Novorossiysk is an important service. Using it, you can insure any real estate against flood, fire, burglary and other situations. In order to insure your home, you will need to select a reliable insurer, study the risks, as well as the insured amounts for each case.
Observation deck "Seven Winds"
The most mysterious place in the city.
The observation deck is located high above the city. And “Seven Winds” is the name of the restaurant, of which at the moment only walls and a dilapidated roof remain.
There is a beautiful legend that the “Seven Winds” is home to the ghost of a girl who died here at her own wedding at the hands of the guy she rejected. The inconsolable groom committed suicide, and members of the bride's family began to die one by one. Those who have seen the ghost say that it appears in the form of a girl in a wedding dress.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, there are several videos online that make you think.
But if mysticism doesn’t appeal to you, it’s still worth climbing the Seven Winds. Nowhere else will you have such a beautiful view of the city. From here the entire bay is at your fingertips.
Reviews from those who moved
Like any other Russian city, both good and bad can be said about Novorossiysk. On the Internet you can find completely different reviews from those who moved to Novorossiysk. Some people are happy with everything here, but others find only disadvantages and regret moving to this city.
Negative reviews
She moved to Novorossiysk 2 years ago. There are a lot of problems in the city! The main one is high population density. There is no way to ensure transport accessibility to remote areas. In Novorossiysk there are huge traffic jams on narrow streets. Engineering networks and infrastructure are badly worn out. Planned and unscheduled outages occur constantly. Bad ecology.
There are no places in kindergartens and schools. The queues at clinics are unreal! There is a catastrophic shortage of doctors here; a child can only see a proper specialist for a fee. But most of all, life is hampered by overcrowding in the city, traffic jams, a low standard of living for people, rising prices and the lack of normal vacancies. I don't recommend moving.
Elizabeth.
There are a lot of disadvantages in the city. The positive aspects are only clean air and sea, natural surroundings. And so it’s very difficult to find a job. Only sellers are required everywhere. The program for resettlement from dilapidated housing is not working properly. There are no mosques. You can relax here, but not live.
Alina.
Neutral reviews
I moved to Novorossiysk 7 years ago with my family. At first I was pleasantly surprised by the local mentality. Residents of Kuban value family ties very much. Here they know how to organize life and take care of growing children. The city has all the conditions for living in comfort. But I can say that it will be difficult for northerners here at first due to the significant difference in living conditions.
Alexander.
Novorossiysk is an ordinary comfortable southern town with favorable weather. The infrastructure here is changing for the better. New neighborhoods are growing. I've been living here for 10 years and don't want to leave. I wish the city nothing but prosperity.
Alyona.
Positive reviews
He lived in Novorossiysk in his youth, then studied at the institute and went on assignment to another city. I have many good memories associated with Novorossiysk. The city is very green, clean and has a warm climate. There are many parks and beautiful nature. Novorossiysk residents in 95% of cases are friendly and responsive, they will always help visitors in resolving any issue.
Alexei.
A beautiful city with a sea, squares and parks, shrouded in history. The people here are nice. There are many new buildings with good infrastructure. If you wish, you can find a job with a normal salary. The city itself is more industrial than resort, but this does not make it worse. Novorossiysk is beautiful and clean. Roads are of normal quality almost everywhere.
Elena.
