Legends of Inkerman

Inkerman stone (white limestone) has probably always been mined in this area.
However, Inkerman arose in the deep Middle Ages. There are many caves here that are now objects of history. They had their purpose - warriors hid in ambush in the caves, and food supplies were also stored.

The Byzantines strengthened their borders on the territory of the city. They built a fortress to protect Chersonesos and named it Kalamita. In addition, present-day Inkerman was the largest commercial port. But Calamita fell - it was destroyed by the Genoese.

In 1470, the Turks captured the territory and gave it the name Inkerman. They completely abandoned the area.

When the Crimean War began, there were bloody battles between the British and Russians. Battle of Inkerman - November 5, 1854, the Russian army lost. However, thanks to the battle, the enemy was unable to attack Sevastopol as planned - quickly, with lightning speed.

In 1957, Inkerman became part of Sevastopol. Then the city again changed its status and in 1976 became Belokamenskoye. And in 1991 it finally received its former name - Inkerman.

There are virtually no beaches in Inkerman. You can swim in Sevastopol Bay. Fortunately, it’s just a stone’s throw from Sevastopol. There is, however, one beach called “Inkerman”. It is located at the pier and is quite well equipped.

The city offers several hotels for vacationers. The choice is not great, but the price is significantly lower than in popular resort towns and cities. And before the same Sevastopol - only 14 km. That is, you can rent a house in Inkerman, enjoying a quiet holiday and beautiful views, and go to Sevastopol to have fun. The ferry to Sevastopol runs every half hour.

Inkerman (whose attractions are mostly outdoors) is a small town with only 1 museum.

Museum of the Sevastopol Marine Plant

In fact, this is a museum of the history of the plant, which began with the opening of the Lazarevsky Admiralty in 1783. The exhibition, located in 4 halls: documents and photographs, large-scale models of ships, dock laying boards and much more, will tell guests about the history of the Admiralty and the city, starting from the pre-revolutionary period until the beginning of the 21st century.

Museum "25th Chapaev Division in the Defense of Odessa and Sevastopol"

This is the museum of boarding school No. 6 named after I.E. Petrov, which was founded back in 1969 on exhibits presented by the hero cities of the USSR. The museum hosts lessons of courage, various meetings and excursions, organized mainly for students from other educational institutions and guests of the school.

Military-historical museum of fortifications "Mikhailovskaya Battery"

This northern exposition of the Military Historical Museum of Fortifications is located in the building of a 19th-century fort. It includes more than 5,000 exhibits housed in 19 halls, arranged in chronological order, allowing one to trace the period from the founding of the city to the end of the Great Patriotic War. The main exhibition of the museum is dedicated to the Crimean War of 1853 - 1856.

How to get to Inkerman from Simferopol?

There are several ways to get to the cave city:

Buses run from Simferopol railway station to Inkerman.
Travel time is about two hours. Also from the Simferopol railway station there is a train going directly to Inkerman. Travel time is longer than by bus – 2.5 hours.

The fastest and most comfortable option is a taxi. The driver will take you to your vacation spot in one hour. However, this pleasure will be expensive - about 2 thousand rubles.

Inkerman cannot boast of golden beaches and huge water parks. But when you come here, you can turn back time - experience all the events of its rich history, taste the best wines, and also, perhaps, discover the secrets of the mountains and valleys.
