Fishing

The reservoir is used for catching commercial fish. In its upper part there is the Uzinsky fishing farm. It is engaged in reproduction and release of young animals into the water. Due to the diversity of depths, different representatives of the ichthyofauna are found here.

Fishing forecast at the Sursky Reservoir

Despite the large area of the water surface, the depth recorded is small. But this does not in any way interfere with winter fishing on the Sursky Reservoir. Bream is usually caught here. Experienced fishermen drill holes in the same places year after year, since this fish rarely changes its route of movement. If you managed to catch it, there is no point in changing the location next time.

Fish

There are 33 species of fish here, 28 of which have settled independently, and 5 have been introduced by people. Ten are found irregularly, and 4 have disappeared completely since the formation of the water area. More and more often they say that it is possible to catch podust, mustard and Siberian spined loach. These are new species for this area. We also found sleeper sleeper and white-finned gudgeon.

You can usually catch roach, silver bream, bream, pike perch and whiteeye. In summer, the reservoir is crowded and noisy; it is better to come fishing early in the morning or late in the evening.

Residents of Sursk do not believe that the problem can be solved at the regional level

In this regard, residents of Sursk appeal to the leadership of the regulatory and supervisory authorities of the Penza region with a request to conduct an inspection and take response measures in order to prevent the emergence and spread of mass infectious diseases, causing damage to the environment due to violations of wastewater treatment technology at the city’s wastewater treatment plants, and also conduct an inspection for misuse of funds contributed by residents as payment for utility services for water drainage and sewerage.

Finally, I would also like to note that the interests of the residents of Sursk in the Legislative Assembly of the Penza Region are “represented” by deputy Igor Nikolaevich Borisov.

The townspeople have already become accustomed to the fact that this important gentleman from Gazprom does not care at all about the interests of ordinary residents of Sursk, as they have been able to see more than once over the years. Not once in the three years of his “deputy” did Borisov raise the issue of the non-functioning treatment facilities of Sursk; these problems do not interest him at all. Activists have repeatedly tried to get an appointment with I.N. Borisov in order to convey information about the above problem, but deputy Borisov cancels the appointments every time and runs away from voters as soon as he hears about the visit of the residents of Sursk. That’s how panicky the “people’s representative” is afraid of his people! This is ridiculous!

The population of the city does not believe that this problem can be somehow solved at the regional level, so civil activists intend to convey this information to the president of the country in the near future. They are confident that their desperate requests will still be heard and in the very near future the city of Sursk will be revived along with updated treatment facilities.

History of the Sursky Sea

The reservoir appeared in the 1960s. during the intensive development of Penza with new houses. New enterprises were created and old ones were repaired, and the satellite city of Zarechny appeared. Against this background, the need for water has sharply increased.

The decision to build the Penza reservoir was made not only because of problems with the volume of water supply to the city. The surah from which water was taken was shallow, and communications were unstable. The combination of all conditions led to the creation of the Sursky Sea.

Before the flooding, there was a forest on the territory that had to be cut down and removed. The stumps were uprooted to ensure the sanitary condition of the future reservoir. Power lines and agricultural facilities were also relocated. They took out all the livestock buildings, burial grounds and cemeteries, and cultivated the land.

We also had to relocate some of the people from 8 settlements whose houses fell into the flood zone. In total, more than 2 thousand people were given new houses. For this purpose, 25 thousand m2 of housing were built.

The history of the creation of the Sursky reservoir began in October 1969 and ended in December 1978. 800 people worked at the construction site around the clock. The dam was completed on June 29, 1976, and the river entered an artificial channel. Since then, the reservoir has been in use for more than 30 years - it supplies the city and nearby villages with water, serves as a place of recreation and is used to irrigate agricultural land.

Surk residents were promised to build new treatment facilities

In connection with repeated complaints from Surk residents, during ongoing inspections and assessments of the situation, the regional departments of Rosprirodnadzor and the Ministry of Forestry recommended a major overhaul of treatment facilities. The implementation of these recommendations was monitored.

As a result, the situation seemed to begin to move forward: an inspection was carried out and design and estimate documentation for the overhaul of structures was developed. Surchan residents were promised to build new treatment facilities with a planned wastewater volume of 1,500 m³/day. The cost of work is 11,370.2 million rubles. This news then spread throughout the city with lightning speed and instilled, albeit small, hope for the future.

But, alas, the hopes of the residents of the textile town, once famous throughout the world for its famous cloths, were not destined to come true - the project to overhaul the wastewater treatment facilities was never implemented for some reason.

Where does city sewage go?

Residents of Sursk daily wonder where the city's sewage goes. Considering that they arrive at treatment plants in extremely small volumes, there is a suspicion that most of the sewage simply flows into the Sura River. Sewage, which does reach treatment facilities, is not subject to mandatory treatment and flows by gravity into the so-called biological ponds. However, instead of biological ponds, over the past decades, only sewage swamps have formed here, as a result of which all living creatures died.

Activists were convinced of this the other day when they once again visited the city’s wastewater treatment plants. It was impossible to stay here due to the strong foul odor emanating from the discharged sewage; this is a clear violation of the constitutional rights to a favorable environment and the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population. And none of the regulatory and supervisory authorities have any questions about this. At the same time, residents of Sursk apartment buildings pay monthly cash payments in the amount of 30 rubles. per 1 m³ of discharged wastewater! And this is a considerable amount of money!

Today, no one can really give a normal, motivated, reasoned answer regarding chronically non-functioning sewerage treatment facilities that pollute the surrounding area; officials just shrug their shoulders, saying, this is a private enterprise, we have no right to interfere and dictate.
