Where to stay in Vladimir
Since Vladimir is a tourist city, there should not be any difficulties in finding accommodation to suit your taste. The best hotel is considered to be the Voznesenskaya Sloboda Park Hotel; a room here in August can be booked for 5,900 rubles. A huge well-groomed area awaits you, and the hotel is located near the historical center. For a room for two in the Panorama Hotel in the very heart of Vladimir you will need to pay 3,900 rubles per night. Here is another nice option for 4,000 and another, no less nice, a little further from the center, but for 2,500 rubles per day.
Finding private housing is also not difficult: on Airbnb they offer to rent an apartment with a very pleasing to the eye minimalist interior for 2,000 rubles per day. Another one in a similar style, in the center, but a little more expensive - 2,727 rubles. This cozy loft-style home, designed for two, will cost you 4,000 rubles. But such an apartment can accommodate 4–5 people, and it costs only 1,800 rubles per day.
What sights of Vladimir to see
Assumption Cathedral
Address: st. Bolshaya Moskovskaya, 56.
Photo: Sergey Dzyuba / Shutterstock
The most famous cathedral of Vladimir is open to the public. Until 17:00 it works as a museum, then as a temple. Take note: after the start of evening services you can go there for free (in clothing corresponding to Orthodox canons). There is something to look at inside: original frescoes and paintings by Andrei Rublev and Daniil Cherny have been preserved there. For those who came as an ordinary visitor, entry will cost 150 rubles.
Dmitrievsky Cathedral
Address: st. Bolshaya Moskovskaya, 60.

Another important cathedral in the neighborhood of the Assumption Cathedral, and since the end of the 12th century the temple has remained virtually unchanged and is still just as beautiful. Particularly striking is the elaborate stone carving on the church walls, which has survived hundreds of years. Only the interior decoration, unfortunately, has not been preserved, so in the building itself you will not find high-status artifacts or rich wall paintings. Please take this into account when visiting, since entrance to the temple is paid - 150 rubles.
Vladimir City Duma
Address: st. Bolshaya Moskovskaya, 54.

The striking building of the former City Duma, partly reminiscent of the Historical Museum in Moscow, is difficult to miss, because it immediately stands out with its intricate decor and rich decoration. It is unlikely that you will be able to get inside, and there is no need to do so: there are administrative premises there. But you should definitely look at the red brick tower from the outside.
Golden Gate
Address: st. Bolshaya Moskovskaya, 1a.
Photo: spaxiax/Shutterstock
Once upon a time it was possible to enter the city through one of five gates, but the only ones that have survived to this day are the Golden ones. In our time, they have lost part of their greatness: previously the oak doors were decorated with cast gold plates (now they are no longer there), and the passage arch itself was rebuilt many times. Tourists often stop here to admire the architecture or explore the small military-historical exhibition located at the top of the building.
Museum complex "Chambers"
Address: st. Bolshaya Moskovskaya, 58.

An interesting cultural and educational center is located in the historical building of the Government Places. Once upon a time the provincial administration met here, and in Soviet times officials worked here. Now there is a museum where the first floor is dedicated to children, on the second you can see works of famous Russian artists (among them Levitan, Vasnetsov, Aivazovsky, Vereshchagin and many others), and on the third they organize temporary exhibitions.

When you're looking for a place to have lunch, don't miss the popular café-bakery in Vladimir, where in addition to coffee (which, by the way, is brewed using both traditional and alternative methods), you can try kurtosh. This is a sandwich invented by the creators of the coffee shop, based on Easter cake with a variety of fillings.
Church of the Holy Rosary
Address: st. Gogolya, 12.

Of course, traditional Russian architecture dominates in Vladimir, so it is quite possible that, in contrast, the only Catholic parish will seem to you the most memorable church in the city. You can go inside completely freely; people of any religion are always welcome here. From time to time, the cathedral hosts organ concerts, which anyone can attend, just follow the schedule on the official website.
Patriarchal Garden
Address: Kozlov Val, 5.

A small but very beautiful landscaped garden in the city center on a high southern slope. This is a favorite vacation spot for residents of Vladimir. Travelers should also stop by and admire the rich collection of plants. Adults will have to pay 150 rubles for entry; schoolchildren and pensioners are admitted for only 50.
The village of Bogolyubovo and the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl
Photo: HelloSvet / Shutterstock
After you finish exploring the main attractions of Vladimir, be sure to find a few hours to go to the village of Bogolyubovo. There you will find a favorite location of local photographers - the unique Church of the Intercession on the Nerl. This is the only temple known in the world, standing on a water meadow, and is protected by UNESCO. In the spring there is a chance to see the church in all its splendor - surrounded on all sides by water - and sail to it by boat. At other times of the year, you will have to get to the temple on foot.
Who should go
Anyone who wants to learn more about the history of Russia and Rus', be inspired by stunning ancient monuments and feel the amazing spirit of holiness that surrounds the city's numerous churches and cathedrals.
Among them are the Assumption and Demetrius Cathedrals, recognized by UNESCO as world cultural heritage sites, as well as the famous Golden Gate, which has no analogues either in Russia or in the world.
It’s worth coming to this city for a couple of days to take a break from the noise and dust of the metropolis, immerse yourself in the quiet contemplation of the luxurious local nature, and touch sacred places. Both adults and children will enjoy the trip, because there are enough entertainments for children here, which will also be useful for broadening their horizons.

What to bring from Vladimir
Gastronomic souvenirs
There are a lot of options here: traditional rye pie, chocolate, gingerbread with various additives. We recommend that connoisseurs of the foamy drink try the popular local beer “Vladimirskoe”. Mead lovers will not leave offended either - you can buy it in many stores in the city. Although the best mead is, of course, in Suzdal.
Forged souvenirs
The Vladimir region is famous for its hereditary blacksmiths, and even today the city still has a forge where they do hand-made artistic forging. It will be interesting to go there on an excursion where you will be told about blacksmithing, or to a master class where you can forge your own nail and then take it as a souvenir.
How to get there
The city is located approximately 170 km from Moscow. The journey by car will take about three hours. It’s worth driving your car to Vladimir if you plan to rent a room at one of the tourist centers located in the suburbs. Or if you want to visit the surrounding area along the way. Very close, in the Vladimir region, there are other colorful Russian cities: Suzdal and Gus-Khrustalny, Sudogda and Bogolyubovo.
If your tourist routes are aimed only at the beautiful places of Vladimir, you should leave the car at home.
“The best way to get to Vladimir is by train,” advises Eleonora Evdokimova. — A comfortable train “Sapsan” follows in this direction, on which the trip from Moscow takes only two hours. You can get there by Strizh or Lastochka trains; regular trains also run, which are affordable. A ticket will cost 600-700 rubles.”
