History of the village
Today the village of Loo is growing with numerous sanatoriums, boarding houses, hotels and the private guest sector
different levels of comfort, and the history of its existence began in the distant
13-14 centuries
. It was then that this paradise of the earth was chosen by a representative of the famous feudal Caucasian dynasty Low, who built his country mansion here.
This amazingly picturesque region was turned into a village in the 13th and 14th centuries
Naturally, around the master’s mansion there were housing for service personnel, utility buildings, and so on. a settlement gradually formed
, named after its first owner and founder.
However, even before Low, life flourished in these places, as archaeological excavations clearly demonstrate. In any case, the discovered temple (or rather its wall) dates back approximately to the 9-10th century
.
And historical research speaks of the existence of this place since the 1st millennium BC. Zikh
settlement .
Moreover, it is interesting that the Greeks called this nation “Zikhs”, and the Turkish-Tatar peoples called them “Cherkasy”
.
These people called themselves “Adygs”
. Those. It was the Zikhs who gave rise to the peoples of the Circassians and Abkhazians, among whom the Low dynasty was subsequently formed.
Representatives of the Circassians in national clothes. 17th century
The Zikh tribes gradually cultivated the land and were engaged in cattle breeding, and built light kamar boats. But the main source of income for a long time was human trafficking
captured during robbery and maritime piracy. The Zikhs supplied the main goods to the slave markets of Crimea - to Panticapaeum (Kerch), Feodosia, Phanagoria, etc.
Human trafficking in the early Middle Ages was a very profitable business
The Zikhs were famous for their cruelty, which was known back in the 2nd-1st centuries BC. Even the great Bosporan king Mithridates the Sixth
, expelled from Pontus to the Bosporus and forced to walk part of the way through the land of the Zikhs, tried to bypass them by sea.
It is a known fact that the Zikhs wanted to kill the missionary Andrei, who walked around local villages in the 5th century, preaching Christianity, but his terrible poverty saved him - they simply pitied him. But the Apostle Simon the Canaanite
was killed by the Zikhs.
It is interesting that the Sugd tribe, belonging to the Zikhs, under the onslaught of the Khazars in the 8th century moved to the Crimean peninsula, where they founded the city of Sugdeya
, present-day Sudak.
In the 10th-12th centuries Loo was probably a border part of the Byzantine Empire
, because at that time a powerful Christian temple was erected here, which was rebuilt into a fortress in the 15-16th centuries.
From the 9th-10th centuries, the ruins of a Byzantine temple have been preserved on the territory of Loo.
Much later, in the place of present Loo there was a Ubykh aul
, which recently belonged to
Ismail Dzepsh
, one of the active participants in the Caucasian war with Russia.
This is what the Ubykh village looked like in the first half of the 19th century
Residents of this aul village until 1864
developed agriculture and livestock farming, and after the end of the Caucasian War and the annexation of the mountainous regions of the North Caucasus to Russia, all Ubykhs who did not want to obey the Russian Tsar were evicted to the Ottoman Empire.
Ten years later, new settlers began to develop the empty lands in the bed of the Loo River - Russians
, Armenians, Greeks. And the entire territory of the former village became part of the grand ducal estate “Vardane”.
After the end of the Caucasian War in 1864, the Ubykhs left their lands
Since 1961
the village of Loo became a microdistrict of the resort city of Sochi, whose main source of income today is
tourism
.

general information
Loo is a resort microdistrict in Sochi, popular with both local residents and travelers from afar. While staying here, I noticed that the local streets are not as noisy as in the center, and the beaches are amazingly clean. In the vicinity of Loo there are many interesting places that I recommend for visiting: medieval ruins of a temple, waterfalls overgrown with legends, gorges and dolmens. Within the area there is a sanatorium with thermal pools, a water park and other entertainment.

Getting to Loo by air is also not difficult: take tickets to Sochi (Adler) airport, and from there by train you will reach Loo in an hour and a half. You can get to Sochi from Loo by commuter bus, which runs from the Excursion Pavilion stop. Travel time depending on the flight is from 40 minutes to an hour.
It takes 25-35 minutes to travel from one resort to another by train and the same amount by car (excluding traffic jams).
You can get from Loo to Sochi even faster (in 20 minutes) by the Lastochka high-speed electric train. It may be interesting: Choosing a resort is a separate pleasure: we slowly decide which is better - Lazarevskoye or Loo.
