14 best attractions in Mineralnye Vody that are worth visiting

Unlike numerous KVM resorts, the city of Mineralnye Vody owes its existence not to springs with healing water. Its forerunner was the village of Sultanovsky, founded in 1878. At that time, the staff of the depot at the junction station of the railway connecting Rostov with Vladikavkaz , Kislovodsk . Soon a settlement populated by merchants and artisans arose nearby. In 1922, two settlements merged into a city, which received its modern name. In subsequent decades, the policy, which became one of the largest settlements in the Stavropol region, developed mainly as a transport and logistics center. However, this did not affect its tourist attractiveness. Every year, tens of thousands of Russians and guests from near and far abroad spend their holidays in Mineralnye Vody.

Yes, by the way, about salaries and prices

Well, they are not high, what can you say))) 20–25 thousand rubles before taxes for an unqualified position a la salesman. 35 is already a senior manager or director of a store branch. Engineers and others working under a contract with Moscow in one area or another receive more, but, as a rule, this is project work and not a permanent salary. In general, everything is sad with creative vacancies, the market is saturated with creatives, at least thanks to the former Pyatigorsk Foreign Languages Institute (now simply Pyatigorsk University), so such specialists can only try themselves somewhere in Pyatigorsk (life is more vibrant there), or switch to remote work. The labor market in Mineralnye Vody can be easily viewed on the relevant headhunter sites; they write the absolute truth there.

Housing and communal services are cheaper than in Moscow, but not by much. The houses are cleaned and not abandoned, for this honor and praise go to the utility workers.

There are more private buildings in the city than high-rise buildings; Delving deeper into the courtyards, I feel like I’m in a well-kept town at the crossroads of cultures. The Soviet Union, the North Caucasus, modern Russia - everything is intertwined here. The houses are only stone or brick, at worst, adobe covered with brick, there are no wooden buildings at all. Residents love their yards and take care of their surroundings no worse than Europeans. The asphalt, however, fails in some places, but not critically. Just as it wasn’t in these areas 25 years ago, it won’t be now, why is it needed, everyone is already used to it.

Where to stay in KMV

This question is not as easy to answer as it seems, because this answer directly depends on the main purpose of the trip - to receive treatment or have fun (the resort is therapeutic). If you are going for treatment, then before choosing a city, decide what you are going to treat or what to be treated for. You can’t make a mistake here, as a famous character used to say. It is appropriate, of course, to send the reader to a doctor, as required by law - “to consult with a specialist,” but I think I still have the right to give some direction. In general, if your stomach is acting up and your intestines don’t give you peace, Essentuki is for you. Irrigate with healing water from all points of view. If your nerves are acting up and your heart is beating too fast (we brush aside the symptoms of falling in love - they don’t treat it here) - come to Kislovodsk, if your kidneys are falling off - welcome to Zheleznovodsk. Everyone is welcome here! Of course, treatment should be approached wisely: the ulcer will not be cured over the weekend even if you do not move away from the source; renal colic will not go away with a couple of procedures. And mud therapy with a health path is useless if your stay is less than 21 days. If the length of stay is less than 10 days, then you should completely forget about treatment. You are just a tourist and you should choose your destination city not based on the “what hurts” principle, but based on their comfort, cost of living and other things that accompany a regular vacation. This does not mean at all that your health will not improve - walks in the freshest and most healing air have never harmed anyone, sound sleep in silence, Caucasian cuisine, wine and a good mood will heal your nerves in a couple of days. So in CMV treatment is included in any case. So, what does the resort offer in terms of accommodation? Let's return to the goal again: if everything is real: procedures, diet, getting up, lights out, then you should go to a sanatorium. There are many of them here. There are modern and expensive ones, there are pre-revolutionary ones, there are ministerial ones (in the latter the tariff is double: accommodation + taxes you have already paid). But the sanatorium is not suitable for everyone: breakfast until 9 am, bedtime at 11. In general, a hospital with a light regime. Such a vacation or really for honey. indications or for the very disciplined. For everyone else, there is a large selection of hotels and a rapidly growing private sector. If you choose a city to spend weekends, holidays, vacations (without fanatical treatment), then the best option is Kislovodsk. Why? On average, the number of clear days per year in Kislovodsk is about 150, while in Pyatigorsk - 98, in Zheleznovodsk - 112, and in Essentuki - 117. Argument? Another one. The largest resort park is 950 hectares. For comparison, in Zheleznovodsk - 203, in Essentuki - 51. This is also a reason, since walking in the KMV is something that can be consumed with guaranteed health benefits, in any quantity and without a doctor’s prescription. But if you couldn’t find a suitable option in Kislovodsk, feel free to look in Essentuki. It’s 20 minutes by train to Kislovodsk, the same to Pyatigorsk and the most unpalatable mineral water. My favorite is #17. There is nothing special to say about Zheleznovodsk (we simply haven’t been here) except that it is the most difficult to reach city in terms of public transport. There is no station here and you need to take a taxi or minibus (albeit a very short distance - about 5 km) to the city from the Beshtau platform (this is between Pyatigorsk and Mineralnye Vody).

Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

This church houses a sacred relic, which is a place of pilgrimage for believers. The icon bears the name “Quick to Hear of Athonite”. It was written a long time ago in a monastery on Holy Mount Athos. She has inexplicable power, and many come to her for prayer and blessing.

The church is amazing inside and out. There are no frills. It was built in the fifties of the last century. It was named in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, and then renamed and consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the 1990s.

The church is simple in architecture and built of brick. Outside, it is surrounded by a fence with an arched entrance gate. The shape of the church is rectangular. The interior is simple. There are no paintings on the walls and vaulted ceiling, but there is on the main altar.

There are no benches in the temple. Therefore, believers stand during the service. The “Quick to Hear” icon is the main icon of the church. There are always a lot of people in the temple, especially on Sunday. It is best to attend church on some Christian holiday. Metropolitan Gideon renamed the temple.

In 1937, after the demolition of the cathedral, a decision was made to build a new church. But due to wartime there were no funds for construction. And this was objectionable to the Soviet authorities. But despite all the difficulties, in 1950 the church was built and named in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. Why Essentuki?

If you type into a search engine the question of which of the KMV cities to stay in , you will most likely be advised to Kislovodsk. It is the largest, brightest and noisiest. The entertainment capital of the region. But we chose Essentuki and did not regret it.

Here's why: - Essentuki is the best choice if you want to travel around the cities of the CMS. It is located in the middle, with trains going in all directions. The farthest distance is something like 30 minutes. — Essentuki is a flat city. This is important for those who are not particularly athletic. In Kislovodsk and Pyatigorsk, the elevation differences are significant and the hills are quite steep. And Essentuki is a “retirement” resort. Walk, walk, breathe the air. — In general, this town is very nice and in some places very well-groomed. There is where to walk, there is something to see. And Essentuki No. 4 water is the most delicious of all (of course, when it’s cold).

Pyatigorsk

Park "Flower Garden".

Institute of Balneology.

And it turns out there is one. Lermontov House-Museum.

I haven't been so interested in a museum for a long time. Excellent exhibition, very enthusiastic guides. In half an hour in the museum I became more imbued with the great poet than in 10 years at school. He opened up to me as a completely different person. Afterwards, I read a lot of articles and watched documentaries. I re-read “A Hero of Our Time.” If you are interested in Lermontov, KMV is a must-visit place. Everything here breathes the poet.

The guides do not hide the fact that for all his talents, Lermontov was a very controversial person. Bully, wit, mocker. And the figure of Martynov, which from literature textbooks seems odious to us (a kind of demon in human form), becomes real. The house where the great poet lived.

Everyone remembers the fact that Lermontov was challenged to a duel at a ball in the living room of the Verzilins' house. But when you find yourself in it... A very small room, a piano, a sofa.

Lermontov, leaning towards the lady, says a caustic address to Martynov, who wants to look like a real highlander and is too carried away by this desire. Suddenly, the sounds of the piano fall silent, and Martynov hears witticisms addressed to him. What happened next is known to everyone. But when you are in this very room... you get goosebumps. Wonderful museum. A must visit. From the museum we went to see Proval - the Malachite Pool, glorified by Ilf, Petrov and Ostap Bender.

We walked for a long time, always uphill, fortunately the views around were very picturesque.

Here I would like to say about the relief of Pyatigorsk - well, it is very hilly. I saw an almost vertical descent to the sanatorium (what kind of an athlete do you have to be to be treated there). To choose a vacation spot, such facts must be taken into account. Well, about the Failure. Is this place worth spending an hour climbing up a wonderful hill? It's definitely worth it. And the puddle is beautiful, green (it just smells like hydrogen sulfide).

And the sculpture is beautiful. I only feel sorry for Ostap Bender’s nose. That's why people come up with ridiculous stories and ruin wonderful sculptures?

Julia, thank you for the excellent report. You had a fruitful trip. The photos are great! I read and remembered these places. It's great there. I dreamed of writing reports or even guidebooks, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet... If I went there again, I would most likely choose a hotel in Essentuki. Pleasant town. I'm taking note of the hotel. Thanks again! Julia, how many days did your trip last? And how many days, in your opinion, is it advisable to budget for such a trip?
