The Vologda region is primarily known as the birthplace of Father Frost, who lives in the cold Veliky Ustyug. 1. Babaevsky district is located in the west of the region. Its territory extends to the Mologo-Sheksninskaya lowland.

On March 1, 2010, an updated register of administrative-territorial units of the Vologda region was approved, taking into account changes in status, abolition and registration of new settlements[9].
