Great guide on how to get to Gelendzhik and the Zhane dolmens

The city of Gelendzhik is located at the foot of the Markotkh mountain range (its western part), on the Black Sea (the coast of Gelendzhik Bay). The entrance to the bay is approximately one nautical mile wide; there are two capes on either side: the northern one, Tonkiy, and the southern one, Tolstoy.

Novorossiysk is only twenty-five kilometers away, so if you decide to get to Gelendzhik by train, it is better to first get to the Novorossiysk railway station. The journey will seem exciting and interesting. No one will be indifferent to the views of the mountains buried in green forests.

Features of purchasing Russian Railways tickets

Please note that if you are going to buy a ticket just before departure, you need to find out how long before the train’s departure you can purchase it, since according to the rules of Russian Railways, the purchase time should not be less than 90 days. Sometimes the rule can be limited to 60 days, or 45. This is especially true for trips to resort cities such as Gelendzhik.

You can buy a ticket via the Internet, at the station or in a special terminal at the station. The advantages of booking tickets online are that you do not have to stand in line, and the purchase can be made at any time. It is best not to place a ticket order on dubious sites, but to contact the official portal of the railway station.

If online ticket purchasing does not appeal to you, you can contact information centers or agents who sell train tickets. The purchase can be made over the phone, and the operator will tell you about all the nuances that are often not indicated on the website. Train tickets to Gelendzhik are inexpensive compared to other methods of purchasing.

When purchasing, you need to indicate the time, place of departure, select the appropriate train, type of carriage and price. The ticket price depends on several factors:

  • Car type;
  • High-speed train or regular;
  • Departure time;
  • Season.

The number and types of cars depend on the company. Most often there are first class and second class compartments. The 1P coupe includes leather bar chairs, a meeting room and much more. Next comes the deterioration (and at the same time the price is lower), 1B class, and 1C, still quite expensive options, the last is business class. Next come three economy cars, 2C, 2B, 2E. The first includes different types of seats, hangers and headphones. The second is more spacious and has access to the Internet, and the third includes meals for no more than 2,000 rubles.

Learn that you may have to travel with a transfer. The most reliable flight Novorossiysk - Gelendzhik, as it is direct. After you have paid for the ticket, it will be sent to you by e-mail. You can pay using bank cards:

  • VISA;
  • MasterCard;
  • Maestro;
  • WORLD.

Or, instead of bank cards, you can use the Yandex.Money e-wallet.

Alternative options

Naturally, there are other options other than getting to Gelendzhik by train. So, you can choose an airplane, for example. In principle, this is much more convenient, because the flight will only take a couple of hours. But keep in mind that this option will cost two to three times more. Naturally, the cost of air travel will depend on the season and the location you choose. This option is also convenient because it will allow you to be right in the resort town itself, since the airport is located there.

There is another option - to go by car or bus. However, if you take into account the fact that you have to travel about one and a half thousand kilometers (about 18 hours), and all this in a sitting position, then it doesn’t turn out to be very tempting. The bus option will cost slightly less than the train - 1000-500 rubles. If we talk about a car, then a trip on it has an economic benefit only if it is full. Before such a trip, one must take into account the state of health, and older people should also take into account that it can be very difficult to bear such a load. Children usually also have a very hard time with sedentary transfers. If tourists have a limited budget, then they need to think about other options other than getting to Gelendzhik by train.

From Moscow to Gelendzhik by train

The trip from Moscow to the resort city lasts from 22 hours to 37 hours. The time varies depending on the train itself and the number of transfers; the distance from city to city is 1596 kilometers. Many people prefer to choose a trip with a transfer in Novorossiysk.

In summer, trains leave Moscow from three stations:

  • Kursky Station (two trains to choose from);
  • Kazansky Station (here you can buy a ticket for one of three trains, two premium classes costing from 11,000 and one regular);
  • Paveletsky station (two trains to choose from).

There is not much difference between the stations; they are located in different parts of the city and you can choose the nearest point for convenience. All stations offer

Gelendzhik: from Kabardinka to Teshebs

Last time I told you about the “surprises” that await you if you decide to go on vacation to Gelendzhik by car.

Today I will tell you about how to get by train to Gelendzhik .

I'll start with the most important thing - there is no railway in Gelendzhik, so you won't be able to get to us by train :). But it doesn't matter.

The fact is that the nearest railway station is only 40 minutes drive from our city - in Novorossiysk.

So now you will need to find out how to get to Gelendzhik from the Novorossiysk railway station:

Option one – intercity bus Novorossiysk-Gelendzhik

If, after getting off the train in Novorossiysk (and passing through the station), you did not find a bus going to Gelendzhik anywhere waiting for passengers (sometimes buses from boarding houses and sanatoriums of Gelendzhik wait for their guests there), then you should get to the Novorossiysk Bus Station by trolleybus (No. 6 ). From the Novorossiysk Bus Station, buses run to Gelendzhik every half hour (a ticket costs about 70 rubles).

You can read more about how to get from Novorossiysk to Gelendzhik by bus HERE .

Advice: If you are going on vacation to Gelendzhik to a large sanatorium or boarding house, do not be lazy, call them on the eve of your departure and find out whether their bus will meet vacationers at the railway station in Novorossiysk on the day of arrival (and if so, at what time and where it will be parked).

Option two - taxi from Novorossiysk to Gelendzhik

Of course, it’s convenient to take a taxi - you get in at the Novorossiysk railway station and get off - right next to your hotel or sanatorium.

True, the cost of such pleasure will be much higher - up to 1,200 rubles per car in 2021.

Therefore, do not hesitate to bargain with a private driver or rent a car, teaming up with other passengers (it is better to negotiate this directly in the train carriage during the trip to Novorossiysk).

You can also order a taxi in advance using this online service (the taxi will arrive at the train station right when the train arrives, you will be met by a driver with a sign, and, of course, you can select in advance the model of car in which you will be most comfortable getting to Gelendzhik):

.

.

Option three – meeting at the railway station in a guest house car

This option is also paid, so usually the cost of such a service will be less than when traveling in a taxi. Whether they can meet you at the Novorossiysk railway station, you should check with the guest house by phone in advance.

At the same time, do not forget to inform the owners who will send the car to the train station for you, not only about the presence of small children (they will need special car seats), but also about the amount of luggage and its size.

Well, you can choose and buy train tickets to Novorossiysk (or any other city) using this online service:

A little information for those who decided to go on vacation to Gelendzhik without looking for accommodation online in advance. Of course, you won’t stay overnight in the open air - we have private guest houses, as they say, “on every corner.” But will you like the service in the impromptu chosen hotel, the distance to the beach (and the beach itself), etc. “little things” is another question.

Personally, I recommend choosing your vacation spot very carefully. You, for example, do not risk getting a multiple visa to the EU through some company without first making inquiries about it and reading reviews on the Internet. So it is with housing in Gelendzhik for the summer, especially if you come to us for the first time. What you should pay attention to, I wrote HERE.

And the last thing for today. If there is no train from your city to Novorossiysk, then you can choose a route to Anapa or Krasnodar. And from there you can get to us by intercity bus. Or you can fly to Gelendzhik by plane (for information about Gelendzhik Airport, see HERE).

The St. Petersburg-Gelendzhik train departs from Ladozhsky station.

The remaining short section of the journey from Novorossiysk to Gelendzhik must be covered by bus or other transport, as when departing from Moscow.

Weather in Gelendzhik

The resort is located in the subtropics, therefore, not only summers, but also winters here are relatively warm. In general, the mild climate of Gelendzhik is compared with the climate of the southern coast of Crimea (especially in the Kabardinka region): hot, dry summers and warm, wet winters. Let's add to this 250 sunny days a year, the sea - which quickly heats up in the spring and cools down for a long time in the autumn and... a strong squally wind.

The wind - nor'easter (or bora in another way) - blows from the mainland and, without encountering obstacles in the form of high mountains (as in Sochi, for example), falls down at a speed that sometimes reaches 40 m/s. To understand: winds of 33 m/s are considered hurricane-force. Are you scared? No need. This wind blows on average about 40 days a year and rarely exceeds 15 m/s. In summer it brings practically no problems, except that the sea becomes colder. In winter, of course, it is less pleasant. The duration of a nor'easter is from a day to a week, but a week is still not common; usually a nor'easter is limited to three days. And basically this whole thing happens in November and December. And now more details.

The weather in Gelendzhik in winter is more than comfortable. The coldest month in the city is January: the temperature drops to zero degrees. But sometimes it rises to 15. Snow at the resort is a rare phenomenon, as well as frosts, but it often rains. And in February, nature is already in full swing preparing for spring - in the twentieth of February, garden trees bloom: almonds, cherry plums, plums.

Already in March the air can warm up to 20 degrees. Daily differences are still significant: at night the temperature drops to 2 degrees. But it rains much less.

At the end of April - beginning of May, the Pitsunda pine blooms. Only tourists won’t see flowers on it: pine blossoms look like haze, fog or “light clouds in the dense crowns.” And in May, walruses open the swimming season: if the weather is stable, then the water at this time heats up to 16-19 degrees.

The real beach season in Gelendzhik begins in June: the water temperature is 20-23 degrees. But in July the sea turns into “fresh milk”, the water stays at 24-28 degrees – until August. There is practically no precipitation, the sun burns mercilessly, so tourists who cannot tolerate such hot weather need to be careful.

The beginning of autumn is what is called the velvet season. There are fewer people, the evenings are cooler, but the sea is still warm. Air temperature – 22-24°С, water temperature – 20-21°С.

In October-November it is also warm, and you can even still swim, unless, of course, there is a wind blowing from the north-east.

Air traffic

Naturally, choosing an air route is the easiest and fastest way to reach Gelendzhik. This is also facilitated by the fact that air communication is well established both with the local airport and with Krasnodar and Anapa .

A direct flight to Gelendzhik is not entirely convenient because this recently opened city airport is quite rightly called “pocket” by local residents. It is not able to serve the required number of airlines, since it has only one takeoff and landing runway. The cost of tickets from Moscow will cost the traveler 6,000-12,000 domestic rubles (if paying for a round trip flight).

This range of prices depends on when the flight is planned and the period of advance purchase of air tickets. The only, but quite serious, disadvantage of this method of travel must be recognized that mostly flights to Gelendzhik depart only from the capital , St. Petersburg and Kazan .

If you choose Anapa , then it is worth emphasizing that the airport there is much larger. Moscow flights operate regularly, so there are practically no problems with air tickets. However, the disadvantage of this choice can be considered both the high cost of tickets and the need to get from the airport to Gelendzhik by taxi. At the same time, you should understand that southern prices hit your pocket quite significantly.

You can choose Krasnodar , where there are regular flights from quite a few regions of the country, cities of the near and far abroad. The cost of air tickets to Krasnodar may be cheaper than to Anapa , but you will have to get to Gelendzhik by taxi or bus.

There are two bus routes to Gelendzhik Airport. One of them, No. 5 , goes to Thin Cape or Tolsty Cape through the center. The second ( No. 16 ) is heading towards the Southern Microdistrict . The interval of these minibuses is quite dense - every half hour.

Bus route

You can arrive to Gelendzhik on vacation using a regular bus as a means of transportation. There are two main bus stations in this city. The old one is now at the stage of large-scale reconstruction.

It operates only flights providing suburban transportation - to Praskoveevka , Betta , Divnomorskoye and Kabardinka .

Intercity and international services operate through the new bus station . Buses departing from it connect Gelendzhik and most cities not only in Kuban and the central regions of Russia, but also with some Ukrainian settlements.

You can come to Gelendzhik by bus from:

  • Rostov-on-Don;
  • Stavropol;
  • Kislovodsk;
  • Ivanovo;
  • Krasnodar;
  • Essentukov;
  • Sochi;
  • Yalta;
  • Odessa;
  • Sevastopol and Simferopol.

The cost of travel by bus from Moscow is 2000-2500 rubles. Travel time is a day.

Road trip

If a traveler going for a resort holiday to Gelendzhik has a good car at his disposal, then he can take an exciting trip along the way, looking at the amazing terrain that the Russian land is so rich in.

When driving from the capital, you must adhere to the federal highway designated M4 . Follow it to Rostov-on-Don , then the landmark is the E50 , from which after the village of Pavlovskaya you need to turn right - to Krasnodar .

Before reaching the regional center, there will be a transport interchange where you need to choose the direction to Dzhubga . It will be expensive and winding, but shorter than through Novorossiysk . To avoid getting lost, it is better to use a navigation system in which you should plan your route in advance.

You shouldn’t go Dzhugba itself

Traveling in your own car has a number of undeniable advantages:

  • independent choice of travel time;
  • direct traffic;
  • the ability to stay in any place you like;
  • It is possible to turn back if desired.

From a practical point of view, going to Gelendzhik by car is the cheapest way, especially if you do it not alone, but with several passengers. In this case, you can load the car with anything (within reasonable limits, of course).
