In the 19th century, during the Caucasian War, the defense of the Mikhailovsky fortification, standing on this site, was held by a company of Russian soldiers. During the month of 1840, they managed to successfully repel attacks by local highlanders. But when it became clear that the enemy would break into the fortress, private Arkhip Osipov, allowing the enemy to approach the walls, blew up the powder magazine.

He and his comrades died, but the explosion also destroyed 3 thousand advancing highlanders. For this feat, at the behest of Emperor Nicholas I, Private Osipov was forever included in the list of company personnel; during daily roll call, his name was called first.

From the Mikhailovsky fortification, only earthen ramparts have survived to this day. In 2005, the wooden fortress was reproduced in accordance with the surviving drawings. Its area is only 130 m2, there are watchtowers on the sides, and cannons are installed.

In addition to the fortress, the museum complex has a territory on which exhibition pavilions were built, and a diorama of the battle that glorified the Russian soldier was created. Arkhipo-Osipovka has for some time become a resting place for astronauts. Their rehabilitation center is located here. Teshebskie waterfalls

A natural attraction that attracts the attention of all tourists is a chain of waterfalls formed on the Teshebs River, where it flows along the ledges of Mount Gebius.

There are 7 waterfalls in total, three of them are large: 16, 15, and 13 m, the rest are less than 3 m. But they are the ones most loved by vacationers.

4 km from the village begins a relict pine forest, some of whose plants are unique and grow only in these places. In addition to Caucasian and Crimean pines, there are Pitsunda pines, hornbeams, junipers, oaks and ash trees.

History of Arkhipo-Osipovka

The Circassians have long lived on the territory of modern Arkhipo-Osipovka. As a result of the complex annexation of the Caucasus to the Russian Empire, the indigenous inhabitants left here, and the Russian military settled in the Mikhailovsky fortification. When the conflict was resolved, the village of Vulanskaya was built on the empty site in 1864, named after the nearest river. Soon the expanded village became a village, and in 1889 it received the status of a village and was renamed Arkhipo-Osipovka in memory of the feat of the Russian soldier. In 1840, during the Circassian attack on the Mikhailovskoye fortification, he blew up a powder magazine and died along with the attackers. Arkhip Osipov was forever included in the lists of the regiment; in our time, a 6-meter cross was erected in his memory, visible from different points of Arkhipo-Osipovka.

Shortly before the revolution, the surrounding area of ​​the village was considered as an inexpensive resort town, and they even managed to build a small sanatorium together, without a beach or park. Archaeological sites include numerous dolmens - burial structures made of massive stones. There are especially many of them near the village of Pshada - about 50. The historical museum of the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka includes a reconstruction of the Mikhailovsky fortification. Its most visited part is the Bread and Wine Museum with an authentic 19th century hand mill and ancient Greek vessels. The facility is located near the old mill and the hotel of the same name. The main attraction in the vicinity of the village is the Tesheb waterfalls on the river of the same name, also called Gebius waterfalls. Most tourists fly to Gelendzhik by plane. How to get around Arkhipo-Osipovka

Arkhipo-Osipovka is a small village, and therefore vacationers and local residents travel mainly on foot or by bicycle. Here regular buses run from the bus station on a schedule, the routes of which are laid out to neighboring villages and large cities.

Suburban bus N 107, passing along Lenin Street, makes several stops. Thus, tourists living at the far end of the village can use this type of transport.

Excursion to the hero city of Novorossiysk

Don’t limit yourself to Arkhipo-Osipovka, be sure to go on an excursion to Novorossiysk. This is the largest Russian port, a hero city and simply a beautiful place. Excursions to Novorossiysk are usually organized in groups. The overview goes to the main places. First, the Memorial Complex on Malaya Zemlya is the main attraction of Novorossiysk. In 1943, this piece of land was held by Soviet troops from the Nazis for several months. As a result, the offensive of the Soviet Army and the liberation of the Caucasus from the Nazis began from here. Next is the cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov" and the Admiral Serebryakov embankment. Until recently, this cruiser was an active warship. Today it is an interesting museum.
