Sights and unusual places of the Krasnoyarsk Territory

Even an experienced tourist will be surprised by the beauty of the sights of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and its capital. The rich history of the city is reflected in various cultural monuments. Unique sacred places are imbued with the spirit of antiquity, architectural structures create a unique image, and cultural institutions instill a sense of beauty in residents and tourists. The region perfectly combines centuries-old history and modernity.

Chapel of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa

The chapel is familiar to the older generation of Russians, because it was depicted on ten-ruble bills. In ancient times, the green hipped roof of the shrine was visible from anywhere in Krasnoyarsk. The Chapel of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa has its own history. On the site of the shrine there originally stood a building from the early 19th century, built by a merchant as gratitude for being saved from death while crossing the Yenisei. A newer building with eight sides, which can be seen today, was built by the philanthropist and gold miner Kuznetsov.

To this day, at noon, the area near the chapel is shaken by a cannon shot. In the evening, many tourists visit the shrine to look at the city from above.

Natural attractions and parks

Nature has rewarded the city with beautiful forests, majestic peaks and powerful rivers. The list of Krasnoyarsk attractions also includes many beautiful and interesting places for families with children. Among them, parks and walking areas stand out.

Yenisei River

The main water artery of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and its capital. This river is considered one of the longest in Russia and the second largest in terms of drainage basin area. Its depth reaches 25 m, and its width reaches 20 km, hiding the other shore behind the horizon.

Embankment

Krasnoyarsk is located on the right and left banks of the Yenisei, along which the main two-tier city embankment is equipped. In 2017, it was reconstructed, giving eco-style features. After the renovation, the pedestrian area now has a partially rubber surface for running and cycling.

The Yenisei embankment is divided into several sections. It has sports grounds almost right next to the water with outdoor exercise equipment and a rental service for bicycles, skates and other sports equipment. In winter, you can enjoy the open-air skating rink here.

Black Sopka

The hill with an absolute height of 688 m is a volcano that was extinct many thousands of years ago, which is still designated as active. The hill has another name - Karatag.

On its slopes, a lot of igneous rock was discovered - diorite, which is actively used in construction.

The summit is covered with more than 1000 species of plants (however, a quarter of them are mosses). Also on the extinct volcano there are rare representatives of the flora listed in the Red Book of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Russia. The slopes are overgrown with low iris, angustifolia lily, winter grass, Sudeten bladder and other rare plants.

The fauna of the Black Hill is also diverse. Red deer, sables, badgers, Altai moles, chipmunks and brown bears walk along its slopes. Numerous birds also nest at the top: black grouse, quail, wood grouse.

Pharmacy kindergarten

The square got its name because of its location near Pharmacy No. 1 on Prospekt Mira. The small open-air botanical garden is open during the warmer months. The area is equipped with tables and chairs, benches and swings, and instead of standard flower beds, medicinal herbs grow here.

Next to the garden there is an old pharmacy with a restored interior. The two-story building stores and sells medicines, and displays ancient medical recipes and medical supplies. All this is laid out on the shelves of antique furniture.

Park Island Tatyshev

The recreational zone is located right in the middle of the Yenisei on a small island and covers an area of 150 hectares. The park is positioned as a “sports” park.

On its territory there are more than 9 km of bicycle paths, tennis courts, horizontal bars for gymnastics and tables for playing table tennis. Outdoor exercise equipment and playgrounds are available for vacationers, including people with disabilities.

In winter, the island has a skating rink with an area of 17,000 square meters. m, and you can rent skates and skis right on the spot - at rental points.

The park has indoor pavilions for martial arts and a children's play area for families with children. Tatyshev hosts major sporting and cultural events.

The park is open at any time of the day, but you can rent a sports ground and the necessary equipment only from 10.00 to 22.00.

Eco-park "Gremyachya Iva"

The landscape space is located within the city, directly in the forest, which is the “lungs” of Krasnoyarsk. The area has 5 km of paths for cyclists and runners, as well as playgrounds and sports complexes. There are 4 km of illuminated paths for walking.

“Gremyachya Iva” was created for relaxation of all family members: there are playgrounds, mother and child rooms. In all other respects, this is an ordinary green park with numerous benches for relaxation. For comfortable walks in the cool season, a warm visitor center with public restrooms has been built, and in front of it there are two car parks.

Troy Park

The family leisure center is located in the Oktyabrsky district of Krasnoyarsk. It is designed primarily for children. There are more than 10 attractions on the territory, including for little visitors: mini-jet, frog, fast and furious.

Troy Park also has:

  • carousel;
  • trampoline;
  • electric cars;
  • auto track;
  • labyrinth;
  • dry pools;
  • road train.

You can see the park from a bird's eye view on the Ferris wheel. Children and adults weighing up to 100 kg are allowed here.

Central Park

The main park of Krasnoyarsk is located in the historical center - on the site of the former City Garden, which was laid out on the left bank of the Yenisei in 1882. It offers both active and passive recreation. On an area of 15 hectares, entertainment options include children's, family and extreme attractions.

Rocking chairs, trains, cars and helicopters, trampolines and slides are available for kids. Among the family attractions you can choose roller coasters, crazy bass, rockin tag, and rodeo. Adults and children can race together on the race track. Of all this diversity, the Ferris wheel with a diameter of 31.5 m stands out, offering a beautiful view of the park.

In the summer, a children's railway operates on the territory, and in winter, a skating rink is built on the site of the dance floor, next to which there is a skate rental service. Guests of the park can also visit the Room of Fear and the Room of Laughter with the oldest distorting mirrors beyond the Urals.

Reserve "Stolby"

The list of natural attractions of the Krasnoyarsk Territory usually opens with the Stolby Nature Reserve. Citizens and guests of the city are happy to come to the spurs of the Eastern Sayan Mountains to relax. Incredible nature, clean and fragrant air due to coniferous trees and grasses captivate the body and soul. In the area you can meet taiga birds and animals, try wild berries and collect a basket of mushrooms. If your vacation happened in September, you can also try pine nuts.

The reserve is called “Pillars” because of the ancient rocks, which under the influence of rain and wind began to resemble pillars. The age of the rock is estimated at about 500 million years. You can visit the territory of the reserve either in summer or in winter. The cost of an excursion for a group of four people is from 2000 to 6000 rubles.

Mesmerizing waterfalls of the region

Krasnoyarsk waterfalls are one of the most impressive attractions of the region. Noisy streams of water cascading from the rocks invariably delight both guests of the region and local residents.

Talnikovy waterfall

Talnikovy waterfall is located on Mount Trapezia in the south of the Putorana Nature Reserve and is considered the highest in the country, which makes it unique and worthy of attention. Another interesting feature of this natural wonder is its seasonal nature.

The waterfall exists only in summer, only 1-2 months a year. From a height of 600-700 meters, melt water falls in a multi-stage cascade. Talnikovy waterfall is interesting for tourists, but getting to it is not easy.

Marble Falls

Marble Falls can be seen in the Ergaki Natural Park. People call the cascade less elegantly - Jerboa. The river of the same name flows down numerous steps formed in the rock.

The white stream joyfully frolics and bounces on the stones, scattering in different directions with sparkling splashes. Getting to the waterfall is quite easy, so many tourists from all over the world come here every year.

Red Stones Waterfall

A wonderful two-cascade waterfall is the main decoration of the Red Stones gorge, which is located near Norilsk. This natural site is a delightful and slightly frightening sight: a rapid stream of water falls along the black and red steep walls. The unusual coloring of the gorge gives the landscape a futuristic feel. The waterfall flows into a deep clear lake at the foot of the cliffs.

Triumphal Arch

A great photo can be taken against the backdrop of the magnificent structure built in 2003. The architectural monument was built in honor of the 375th anniversary of the founding of the city. According to legend, in 1628, the Cossacks first landed on the banks of the Yenisei and founded a fort, which later became a metropolis.

However, the Arc de Triomphe, as conceived by the authors, is a memory of the feat of the victorious people in the Great Patriotic War. In appearance, the building looks very solemn and elegant. This effect was achieved thanks to the polished stone that served as the cladding of the arch.

Sights of the Krasnoyarsk Territory

Krasnoyarsk and its surroundings are rich in natural attractions. Many of them are considered a godsend for speleologists and lovers of eco-recreation.

Cuban Cave

The natural monument lies off the coast of Biryusinsky Bay, 14 km from the village of Shumikha. The entrance inside is located on a slope, at an altitude of about 400 m. In front of it there is a rock for climbing with belay. The cave looks like a square-shaped vertical fracture 1 m wide.

Inside there are many labyrinths with a length of about 3 km and several grottoes. The largest of them:

  • the Fidel Hall with ancient clusters of stalactites and frozen icicles;
  • Grand Hall 25 m high.

But the most striking is the Blue Lakes Grotto, which is so called because of two small reservoirs with clear turquoise water.

Assumption Monastery

The male cenobitic monastery was inaugurated in 1879 in the suburbs of Krasnoyarsk. The complex includes four churches, the most important of which was built in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Vsetsaritsa” in the neo-Russian style and painted white. Inside it is kept a reliquary with the relics of the holy prince Oleg of Bryansk and icons with the relics of various saints.

The monastery complex also includes churches:

  • Dormition of the Mother of God;
  • Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Tsar Constantine and his mother Queen Helena;
  • Righteous Prince Oleg Bryansky.

And of the residential buildings, only the abbot’s house and the building in which the monks used to live have survived to this day.

Hydroelectric power station

The Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station is one of the 10 largest in the world. The hydraulic structure is located 40 km from the city center on the Yenisei River and supplies more than 30% of the region’s electricity.

The complex includes a 128 m high concrete dam, consisting of three sections. During its construction, the Krasnoyarsk reservoir with an area of about 2000 square meters was formed. km. Next to it, right on the water, there is a large building with hydraulic units.

Farm "Koza-Dereza"

The main activity of this farm is the raising and breeding of goats, including rare breeds. The store next to the livestock farm sells milk and products made from it: yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese.

The pens also contain sheep, chickens, geese, as well as ostriches and quails, so there are always fresh eggs and meat on sale.

The farm also functions as a kind of museum. On its territory there are excursions for adults and children, during which you can see how goats are milked and dairy products are produced.

For an additional fee, you can grill your own barbecue and relax in one of the rented gazebos.

Also during the holiday, guests can:

  • order a photo session with the inhabitants of the farm;
  • ride horses;
  • complete an interesting quest;
  • watch a show with animators;
  • take a steam bath;
  • try your hand at pottery.

The farm has a buffet where you can order food prepared from your own products. The menu includes cold appetizers, hot dishes and drinks, desserts and burgers.

Karaulnaya Cave

On the basis of the Karaulnaya Cave on the banks of the Yenisei in 2003, a speleological museum was created to familiarize visitors with its values and significance. There is a tourist route along the cave itself with railings and a bridge for tourists. Certain sections along the route are illuminated with LED lights.

The total length of the labyrinths is more than 540 m, and 350 m of equipped passages are open to tourists. The cave is “two-story”, and it begins with the Ice Grotto, in which the remains of a glacier are preserved. On the second level lies the Hall of Charm with ancient limestone formations on the walls that never harden.

At a depth of 30 m there is a Drop Hall measuring 20x40 m with a small lake in the middle and two faults. The lower grotto of the cave is Clay, with clay flowing down from above, from which visitors can make various crafts at will.

Big Ben Tower

Like London, Krasnoyarsk boasts a Big Ben very similar to the original one. The tower has 4 dials, each 6.5 meters in diameter and weighing one and a half tons. The city authorities began construction back in 1977, but after some time they froze the project for unknown reasons. The tower was remembered again in 2000. The following year, in the fall, construction work was completed. A new attraction has appeared in Krasnoyarsk - the pride of the townspeople and a favorite place for city guests.

Railroad bridge

In 1900, the Railway Bridge over the Yenisei was only a year old, but its main triumph was close. It was during your visit to the city on the Yenisei, several thousand kilometers to the west, in Paris, that the World Exhibition was in full swing. Its results will be summed up in November and the Krasnoyarsk Railway Bridge will be declared the winner. Exactly the same prize was awarded to the famous Eiffel Tower 11 years earlier. The gold medal in Paris remains to this day the highest achievement of Krasnoyarsk architecture.

The bridge was truly impressive. 907 meters of steel structures with spans of 144 meters, an incredible cost of 3 million royal rubles - all this aroused the sincere admiration of his contemporaries.

Alas, the bridge did not survive until 2021. In 2002, they began to dismantle it, and in 2007 it was irrevocably sold for scrap, without even leaving a piece as a souvenir.

River Station

The station building was built in 1952. Many people note that for such structures the river station in Krasnoyarsk looks incredibly aesthetically pleasing. But this is not without reason. The two-story mansion with columns and a quadrangular rotunda with a long spire on the roof was originally built for an art gallery. However, the chief architect decided to move the cultural site from the embankment. The exhibits moved, and the building became a place where passengers come - a river station.

Resurrection Cathedral

The oldest stone building in Krasnoyarsk and for a long time the main cathedral of the province. Krasnoyarsk residents would probably show you its main attractions: the icon of the Transfiguration of the Lord in a solid 5.5-kilogram silver frame, a new bell tower built in 1850 with a messenger bell, and a wooden portier, painted in the time of Boris Godunov.

It would be no less interesting to visit the cemetery near the cathedral, where among the graves of the first Krasnoyarsk residents one could see the grave of Commander Rezanov, the famous traveler who died on the way from California to St. Petersburg.

The cathedral has not survived to this day. In the early 60s, the temple, which had already been converted into a mechanical plant, was demolished. The painted portico, the bell tower, and Rezanov’s grave were lost. But the icon survived - now it can be seen in the Museum of Local Lore. True, without a salary, he was handed over to the bank in 1935 for the needs of industrialization.

House of the Father

The wooden house is today considered an architectural monument. In addition, the structure is very well preserved, even though it was built in 1911. The architecture of the mansion differs from others by its obvious mixture of European and Russian styles. The rectangular side openings of the walls go well with the lancet windows, and the figured carvings on the decorative elements in the style of Warsaw buildings are in harmony with the figured platbands of Siberian houses. An unusual two-story mansion was built for the curator of the Svyatopolk-Mirsky church. Today, the architectural monument serves as a building for the music school and church administration.

Museum of Local Lore

One of the main attractions of the city is the building of the local history museum. The construction is a reconstruction of a temple from the times of Ancient Egypt. The institution was founded in 1889 and boasts a large collection of original antiquities (more than 145 thousand). The exhibition contains personal belongings of the great inhabitants of the region:

  1. Dmitry Hvorostovsky is a world-famous opera singer.
  2. Vasily Ivanovich Surikov - a great academician and artist.
  3. Viktor Petrovich Astafiev - Soviet and Russian writer.

One of the main halls of the museum is specially reserved for exhibits showing the historical development of the peoples of Siberia. Items include incredible archaeological finds, wax figures of herders, hunters and warriors in original clothing.

Museum workers give tours of the halls. Ticket price: for children and students - 40 rubles, for pensioners - 50 rubles, and for adults - 100 rubles.

The most interesting mountains in the Krasnoyarsk Territory

Beautiful mountains are an integral part of the Siberian landscape. In the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk and other cities in the region you can see dozens of mountain peaks, each of which has its own “character” and its own interesting history.

Borus Massif

The Borus ridge is located in the Shushensky Bor nature reserve. The name of the mountain was made up of the surnames of two athletes, Borisov and Rusanov, who first conquered the main peak over 2000 meters high. Borus can be called the Siberian Alps: the “mountain brothers” are united by a similar flora.

The Shushensky ridge is one of the most convenient for tourism. There is a hotel at the foot of the mountain, and there are recreational sites on the slopes. A pleasant nuance is the absence of small blood-sucking insects for which the taiga is famous. From the top of Borus there is a wonderful view of the reserve.

Karaulnaya Mountain

Mount Karaulnaya rises 20 kilometers from Krasnoyarsk. Hundreds of years ago, local residents called the hill-mountain Khum-Tigei; it acquired a new name when the first Russian settlers came to the banks of the Yenisei. A guard armed with a cannon was placed on a hill. Today there is an observation deck on the mountain, from which an impressive panorama of the surrounding area opens up.

Black Sopka

An extinct volcano is one of the mountain peaks that surrounds Krasnoyarsk. The name “Black Hill”, or “Black Mountain” is a literal translation of the name Kara-Dag, or Karatag. In the dense green forest on the gentle slopes, dark bald spots are noticeable, as if scorched by ancient fires. Pieces of diorite, the remains of solidified magma, also indicate a volcanic past.

Black Hill is suitable for one-day hikes and walking. Climbing to the top is relatively simple; people with good physical fitness find the climb easy. From the height there is a dizzying view of the Yenisei, surrounding forests, landmarks and plains.

Sopka Meteoritnaya

Sopka in the Novoselovsky district is a place of mysteries. The hill received such an interesting name after the “Pallas Iron” meteorite, named after the explorer Pallas, was discovered on it in 1749.

Mount Tepsei

The majestic Mount Tepsei is located a few kilometers from Minusinsk. The height is only 663 meters, the slopes are quite gentle, so many tourists climb to its peaks. Because of its two peaks, Tepsei is called “double-headed”. Indigenous peoples revere it as a shrine.

Tepsei is a real find for archaeologists; ancient rock paintings and petroglyph inscriptions have been preserved on its slopes; amazing historical finds are hidden in its depths. According to legends, countless treasures of the Khakass princes are hidden in secret caves.

Organ Hall

The building of the organ hall in Krasnoyarsk has a very rich history. The cultural monument is located on the site of a Catholic church, built in 1911 according to all the canons of the Gothic style. However, the shrine was used for its intended purpose for only nine years. After the revolution, the building constantly changed its purpose.

At some time the building was used as a warehouse, at another - as a radio committee.

But at the end of the 20th century, they decided to restore the temple, and one of the Czech companies producing musical instruments began manufacturing a large organ consisting of two thousand pipes. For the first time, majestic melodies sounded in the temple in 1983. Today you can get to an organ concert by purchasing a ticket costing from 200 to 400 rubles.

Cathedral

You will definitely be shown the main cathedral of the city. It was opened in May 1861 and it stood on the spot that today is called Revolution Square. Its size was truly impressive. Length 55 meters, height 40 meters - that is, almost the size of a 13-story building. The author of the project, architect Ton, is the same one who designed the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The construction of the structure cost 560 thousand silver rubles. A huge amount for those times.

It’s hard not to notice that the temple has not survived to this day. In December 1935 it was blown up.

Literary exhibitions

The Museum of Literature is located in a unique ancient building from the late 19th century. The building is an incredible example of harmony, which combines Gothic and Russian traditions of wooden architecture. The museum's exhibits include famous works by Astafiev and lesser-known works by other Siberian authors. The exhibition also contains:

  • posters;
  • autographs;
  • posters;
  • photos;
  • personal belongings of writers.

Interesting excursions are organized for visitors. Ticket prices: children and students - 50 rubles, adults - 100.

Steamship "St. Nicholas"

The list of historical places in the Krasnoyarsk Territory includes a steamship with an interesting history. The ship was built in Tyumen at the end of the 19th century. Then it was equipped with the latest technology: a Swedish steam engine was installed. The ship set off on its first expedition along the Yenisei in 1887. The speed of the ship was so high that it gained fame as the fastest in Siberia.

, the young Emperor Nicholas II and the future leader V.I. Lenin stepped aboard the ship The interior of the ship today imitates the decor of past years. There are excursions around the ship, during which you can also see wax figures of famous passengers of the past. The cost of tickets is very symbolic: for children and students - 50 rubles, and for adults - 70.

Zoo "Roev Ruchey"

Krasnoyarsk Zoo "Roev Ruchey" is considered one of the largest in the country. The cultural landmark is located on the mountainside. Its territory accommodates about 6,200 representatives of the animal world from all continents.

At the zoo you can visit the penguinarium, aquaterrarium and look at the sharks kept in a spacious aquarium. The Roeva Rucha collection also

Art culture

The museum in honor of the great native of Krasnoyarsk, Russian artist Surikov, was opened in 1957. The first exhibits were collections of works from the Museum of Local Lore.

Today, in separate rooms dedicated to painting of the 18th-19th centuries. you can see the works of Kramskoy, Shishkin, Korovin, Aivazovsky and Repin. Of course, there is a collection of paintings by Surikov, including: “Gurzuf”, “Anfisa”, “Nun”, “Annunciation”. In the graphics rooms there are paintings by Savrasov, Roerich and Benois. Many visitors are delighted by the good works of decorative and applied Western European art.

Pushkin Theater

Drama lovers should definitely visit the A.S. Pushkin Theater. The history of the establishment dates back more than 150 years of fruitful work. The theater troupe moved to the modern building back in 1902. Since then, excellent performances have been staged on stage, attracting full audiences. The repertoire includes both classical works and more modern ones.

The interior of the hall will amaze the viewer who enters for the first time: the walls are decorated with bas-reliefs, and the stalls and balconies are decorated with red velvet. Thanks to incredible acoustics, you can hear the actors speaking even from the gallery.

Public meeting

Another building where you would probably be taken to have fun and unwind is the Public Assembly building. At the beginning of the 20th century, this was the main party place in Krasnoyarsk. Balls were held here, a buffet was open, and gambling was played on the sly. In fact, the legislation of those years categorically prohibited gambling for money, but this did not stop Krasnoyarsk residents.

At the time of your visit, the public assembly still shared premises with the noble assembly. Both institutions could hardly fit into a small house at 67 Mira, and in 1910 the public meeting moved to a new building, known today as the “House of Officers.”

Today the house has been preserved, but no balls or meetings are held there anymore. According to 2GIS, it houses a hotel and two sports societies.

Monument to Nikolai Rezanov

Almost every person in Russia has at least once heard the line “You will never forget me” from the composition “Juno and Avos”. But almost few people know that the work was written based on the real story of Commander Nikolai Rezanov. The man became famous as the leader of the first Russian “around the world” and a brilliant diplomat. Rezanov did a lot for Alaska to join the Russian Empire. He died in 1807 from a cold.

In 2007, a sum of money was collected from donations from citizens for the installation of a monument to Nikolai Rezanov. A five-meter bronze figure of a man rises on a pedestal. The commander himself is dressed in a uniform, and in front of him there is a floating ball - a fountain on which the famous expedition route is built.

Memory of A.P. Chekhov

Throughout history, many famous Russians have visited Krasnoyarsk. Among others was Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. He stopped in the city in 1890 while traveling to Sakhalin. The writer liked Krasnoyarsk so much that in “Travel Notes” he later called the city the most beautiful city in Siberia.

In 1995, residents of Krasnoyarsk erected a monument to Chekhov as a sign of gratitude for the high appreciation of their small homeland. You can find the statue on the embankment, a few blocks before the river station.

Every tourist before his trip must decide for himself what to see in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Some people like to be culturally enlightened. Someone wants to feel unity with nature. Well, others will just want to take a walk around the city and its surroundings. However, every guest of the region will be satisfied with what they see.

If this is your first trip, it is better to purchase a map with a brief description of the various places. Also, near many attractions you can find sellers who will help you choose a memorable picture, magnet, children's coloring book or drawing with motifs of the city.

Architecture and engineering structures

In Krasnoyarsk there are both modern and ancient architectural sights, since the city was founded in the 17th century. Most of the historical buildings are located in the center.

Particularly worth noting are the bridges of Krasnoyarsk and mini-copies of some popular European monuments.

Historical Quarter

In the center of Krasnoyarsk there are many ancient wooden houses of the 18th–19th centuries, which are the best examples of Russian architecture. They shaped the appearance of the historical quarter, which covered the space between Gorky, Marx and Dekabristov streets.

During the recent reconstruction, most of the buildings - cultural objects of local and regional significance - were restored.

In the historical quarter, the two-story wooden estate of the Belsk tradesman Grigory Nekrasov has been preserved. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, it is decorated with architectural elements from the Renaissance.

Nearby is the house of the doctor Glanz , built in 1910. This one is of interest with its white trim, bright turquoise facade and carved balusters on the spacious balcony.

Communal Bridge

There are 11 existing bridges across the Yenisei River, including Kommunalny, which was put into operation in 1961. It connects the two banks and is on the UNESCO list of sites in the “Bridge Building of the World” category.

The construction begins on Predmostnaya Square and ends on Teatralnaya Square. The communal bridge in the spirit of the Stalinist Empire or “Triumph style” was created for both cars and pedestrians.

The structure is 2300 m long and is nominally divided into two sections by a dam in the area of Rest Island. A characteristic feature of the facility is its long spans, which allow large vessels to easily navigate the river.

Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord

The Roman Catholic Church was built during the period 1909–1911. The design of the religious building is in the Gothic style: the walls are cut through with high arched windows, the roof is complemented by pointed spiers. The temple is decorated with vaults, and the dark orange, almost brown facade is decorated with bas-reliefs and sculptures.

The only 2000-pipe concert organ in the Krasnoyarsk region, made in the Czech Krnov, operates in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. It belongs to the city Philharmonic, which regularly holds classical concerts here.

On Sundays performances begin at 17:00, and on weekdays at 19:00.

Tower "Krasnoyarsk Big Ben"

The tower got its name because of its resemblance to London's Big Ben. It began to be built back in the 1970s, but was opened only 20 years ago. The structure, like the original, has real chimes with a diameter of 6.5 m. The clock mechanism weighs one and a half tons.

There are four dials on the tower, one on each side. Local chimes ring with musical accompaniment twice an hour. The structure is adjacent to the city administration building on Karl Marx Street.

It is believed that if you walk under the tower during the chiming clock and make a wish at that moment, it will certainly come true.

Eiffel Tower

Krasnoyarsk also has its own Eiffel Tower, which appeared next to a French restaurant in 2007. Externally, it looks almost like the original, only made on a reduced scale of 1:21. The structure was built from more than 8 tons of metal and is comparable in height to the neighboring five-story building.

The tower looks especially beautiful in the evening, when the illumination of thousands of light bulbs turns on. Newlyweds and tourists often take pictures against its background. The attraction is located in a small landscaped park.

Peace Avenue

One of the main transport routes of the city lies in the historical center - on the peninsula, which is washed by the Yenisei and its tributary Kacha. In 2021, it was decided to make certain sections of the avenue pedestrian for the summer. The total length of the popular tourist route is 3.6 km.

There are many sculptures on Mira Avenue. The most interesting of them:

  • a monument to the Russian diplomat, entrepreneur and traveler Nikolai Petrovich Rezanov;
  • "Adam and Eve" as an element of the fountain;
  • sculpture depicting the artist Andrei Pozdeev;
  • Globe;
  • monument to Alexander Pushkin and his wife Natalya Goncharova.

The architectural ensemble of the transport highway is represented by more than 100-year-old buildings of the former spiritual brotherhood, a women's gymnasium, the Yenisei provincial government, as well as numerous merchant estates.

Prospekt Mira is replete with other attractions. For example, at its intersection with Surikov Street, the oldest snow-white stone structure, erected in 1795, the Holy Intercession Cathedral, has been preserved.

Holy Intercession Cathedral

The construction of the temple dates back to the end of the 18th century. The building was erected in the Siberian Baroque style. The stone walls outside are painted dazzling white, which is somewhat dissonant with the green roof. The central element of the cathedral is the bell tower in the middle.

Inside, the temple is decorated in blue and white colors with gilded elements, and the walls are painted with frescoes on religious themes.

In 2008, a miraculously surviving wall painting dating from the late 18th to early 19th centuries and depicting an icon of the patronal feast was discovered in the cathedral.
