Uglich State Museum
Uglich Museum
Uglich district
The Uglich State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum is the oldest in the city. It was opened in 1892, and the celebration was attended by Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich and his family. The museum was managed from the capital - the Imperial Moscow Archaeological Society. A small initial collection was housed in the chambers of the appanage princes - the oldest surviving building of the Uglich Kremlin.
Today the museum includes all the buildings of the Kremlin ensemble, each of which has its own history. From the bell tower of the Transfiguration Cathedral at the end of the 16th century, the death of Tsarevich Dimitri, the youngest son of Ivan the Terrible, was announced. The alarm bell, which called the peasants to revolt, was severely punished for this: after the rebellion, his tongue was torn out and taken to Tobolsk, the place of Siberian exile. The Uglich Kremlin Cathedral itself was destroyed during the Time of Troubles and restored almost 100 years later. At the site of the death of the heir, the townspeople erected the Church of Demetrius on the Blood, decorated from the inside with paintings with scenes from the life of the prince. Today, copies of pages from the Uglich investigative file, the stretcher in which the relics of Demetrius were carried to Moscow, and the bell, which was returned to the city of Uglich at the end of the 19th century, are kept here. Also in the collection of the Uglich State Museum is a collection of ancient Russian paintings and wooden sculptures, ancient weapons and coins, materials on the history of the region and samples of folk art.

Alekseevsky Monastery
Alekseevsky Uglich Convent in Uglich...
Yaroslavl region
The Orthodox Alekseevsky Monastery was founded by the monk Adrian in 1371 on the site of an ancient pagan sanctuary. In those days, the wooden walls of the monastery protected the approaches to Uglich from the Yaroslavl side. The monastery survived more than one siege and was destroyed by the Poles at the beginning of the 17th century. A few years later it was restored in stone.
In 1628, the Orthodox Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built here. The architectural solution was rare for Russia - three tents were erected over the brick body of the temple, each of which was crowned with a small dome. There are only two three-roofed churches in Russia. The second - the Church of Hodegetria - is located in the St. John the Baptist Monastery in Vyazma.

Resurrection Monastery
Chechen pair dance "helhar"
The first mentions of the Resurrection Monastery are found in documents of the second half of the 15th century. It was located near the mouth of the Trinity Stream, on the low bank of the Volga. In the first third of the 17th century, the monastery was moved from the lowlands to a new location, and stone cathedrals and a bell tower were erected here. All the buildings of the monastery were lined up in one line. They were united by a lower floor with utility rooms and a covered gallery - a walkway - on the second tier. This technique was often used by architects who built palace complexes in Ancient Rus'.
Due to the weak soil, the walls cracked; the ensemble was restored several times in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was possible to stop the destruction of buildings only in the middle of the 20th century, when a method of chemically strengthening the soil was invented. Today there is a functioning Orthodox monastery here.
Yaroslavl is the largest city in the region
More than 600 thousand people live here. So far the population is showing regular outflow. Many people are looking to move to larger cities to find more opportunities. The birth rate is increasing, while the mortality rate, on the contrary, is decreasing. The collapse of the USSR brought many troubles, so the entire region suffered demographically, but now the situation has improved significantly. Among the visitors, citizens of Kazakhstan and CIS countries stand out. However, there are only 4% of them, the rest are Russians. There are also two large diasporas, namely Azerbaijani and Armenian.
The large population does not affect the convenience of life for city residents. The problem with infrastructure is familiar to everyone, but this is directly related to the work of housing and communal services, which do not always perform it responsibly. The city has a high level of amenities. There are many playgrounds, the development is more or less planned, so traffic jams are rare rather than the rule. Yaroslavl is still far from becoming a million-plus city - we won’t have to wait for overpopulation just yet. There are enough places in schools, kindergartens and various municipal institutions for everyone. The population itself actively cares about their city, improving its infrastructure. There are plenty of public transport units and well-thought-out routes, so transport collapses do not happen.
Museum of Urban Life
Museum of Urban Life
Yaroslavl region
The Museum of Urban Life was opened in 2004 in a wooden house where the tea shop of merchant Kashinov used to be located. In the first hall there was a stylized shop with various goods, advertisements and newspapers of those years - they were distributed in the shopping area of old Uglich. In another part of the house, they recreated the house of a Uglichman with carved furniture according to the fashion of those times. In the women's half of the house there is a wardrobe with outfits made from illustrations from pre-revolutionary magazines, rare dolls and wooden toys. In the basement, as before, there is a tea room. For excursion groups, herbal tea is brewed here and desserts are prepared according to the cookbook of Elena Molokhovets from 1861.
Where to go in Uglich on the second day and what to see with children
A busy first day will make your legs ache, but in this small, at first glance, city, there are still many objects worthy of your attention. What are the exhibitions of 15 city museums worth? It’s definitely worth spending the whole day to get to know them in detail.
On Spasskaya Street, in the very center of the city, there is the house-museum “Legends of Uglich”. It is definitely worth a visit if you are deciding what to see in Uglich with children. The museum's exhibition is small, but very interesting. “Wonders of technology” from the beginning of the last century are exhibited here: cameras, a piano, a gramophone. And you can even call the first landline telephone, which once belonged to the owner of the estate, and is now on display in the museum.
Children will also be interested in museums of dolls and bicycles. They are located in neighboring buildings, so they traditionally visit them together. The doll museum features smartly dressed “boys and girls,” literary characters and well-recognized cartoon animals. It is customary to look at the exhibits with attention, and buy a souvenir in the museum shop - their selection will please even the most experienced tourist.

The bicycle museum is dedicated to popular eco-friendly transportation from the early days to the present day. Here you can see both exhibits that are quite familiar to the modern eye, as well as unusual bicycles that are no longer produced today. Some of the exhibits can be tested - ride on the site in front of the museum, and some - rented in order to have time to explore as many interesting places in the city as possible.
In the same building where the bicycles are displayed, the Whistle Museum is “hidden”. Children adore it, as there is a pottery workshop at the museum. And every little guest can try to make a clay vessel or even a musical instrument, and then paint it with their own hands.
Another museum in the neighborhood is prison art. Why exactly in Uglich they decided to create such a characteristic exhibition is unknown. But guests of the city like the “forbidden zone”: here you can see unsightly but soulfully made musical instruments, checkers and backgammon, paintings on sheets and even figurines made from bread crumbs. All the creators either served time in prison at one time or are still there.
Uglich is the only city in Russia where there is a Vodka Museum. It owes its creation to Russian entrepreneur Pyotr Smirnov , founder of the world famous brand of alcoholic drink, nicknamed the “vodka king”. Pyotr Smirnov was originally from these places, and today there is an exhibition in Uglich that is open all year round. It presents not only samples of products from different times, but also moonshine stills, bottling equipment, antique vessels and bottles, and even a medal weighing almost 7 kg, which Tsar Peter I, the eternal fighter against drunkenness, once awarded to those who especially distinguished themselves. the drunken business of the courtiers.
In Uglich there are also museums of myths and superstitions, a working horse, and leather craftsmanship. Without exception, everyone works during the tourist season, which falls on the May holidays and summer months. Therefore, there are no problems with what to see in Uglich in summer: when tourists arrive, the town comes to life and hospitably opens the doors of exhibitions for every taste.

His collection contains antiques: mirrors, stained glass, porcelain and glassware, decanters and lamps. Among the products there are those that belonged to the designer’s family.

Pereslavl-Zalessky - a cozy city
This is a city very rich in history and culture. There are 25 temples and 10 museums here. It can be called truly densely populated and even included in the list of the most amazing cities in the country. This is a purely tourist city, where people come to relax, breathe fresh air and see the sights. There are several factories that are not difficult to get to. Therefore, Pereslavl-Zalessky, despite its small area, is comfortable for living. The population is often engaged in business; many go to Moscow to earn money.
