in Krasnoyarsk - houses, bridges, monuments, fountains, theaters, temples, parks... 274 urban objects are included in the cultural heritage of Russia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Come and admire what you like. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. Attractions in the city - for every taste.

Krasnoyarsk is a city in central Russia, in Siberia near the Yenisei River. Formed according to official data in the 17th century on the site of ancient settlements. Population – about 1.1 million people. The largest industrial, administrative and cultural center of Russia. It repeated the fate of many historical cities - a fire in the second half of the 18th century destroyed most of its wooden buildings, and the stone ones had to be rebuilt.

The main attractions of Krasnoyarsk

The most famous sights of Krasnoyarsk are the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel and the Kommunalny Bridge , depicted on one of the current Russian banknotes, as well as the Krasnoyarsk Pillars nature reserve .

  • Chapel of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa is a 15-meter building on Mount Karaulnaya. It was built in the 19th century. Initially, it was a place of Orthodox pilgrimage and religious processions. There is an observation deck for observing the panorama of the city. Tourists are also interested in the recently introduced ritual - every day at 12:00 a ceremonial salvo is fired from a cannon located on Karaulnaya Mountain.
  • The location of Krasnoyarsk on both sides of the Yenisei River became a prerequisite for the development of bridge construction in the city. A total of seven bridges were built. One of them is Kommunalny, a car-pedestrian bridge across the Yenisei, built in the 50s of the last century and notable for its architectural style and semi-arches.
  • The Krasnoyarsk Pillars Nature Reserve on the right bank of the Yenisei in the Eastern Sayan Mountains is home to huge ancient rocks that are hundreds of millions of years old. They are very beautiful, although they have a unique bizarre shape, and sometimes reach a height of more than 500 m. There is a rich flora and fauna here; local caves are very popular among tourists. Mountaineering sports are actively developing; on the territory of the reserve there is the Bobrovy Log ski complex, equipped with a cable car.

Natural attractions and parks

Nature has rewarded the city with beautiful forests, majestic peaks and powerful rivers. The list of Krasnoyarsk attractions also includes many beautiful and interesting places for families with children. Among them, parks and walking areas stand out.

Yenisei River

The main water artery of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and its capital. This river is considered one of the longest in Russia and the second largest in terms of drainage basin area. Its depth reaches 25 m, and its width reaches 20 km, hiding the other shore behind the horizon.

Embankment

Krasnoyarsk is located on the right and left banks of the Yenisei, along which the main two-tier city embankment is equipped. In 2017, it was reconstructed, giving eco-style features. After the renovation, the pedestrian area now has a partially rubber surface for running and cycling.

The Yenisei embankment is divided into several sections. It has sports grounds almost right next to the water with outdoor exercise equipment and a rental service for bicycles, skates and other sports equipment. In winter, you can enjoy the open-air skating rink here.

Black Sopka

The hill with an absolute height of 688 m is a volcano that was extinct many thousands of years ago, which is still designated as active. The hill has another name - Karatag.

On its slopes, a lot of igneous rock was discovered - diorite, which is actively used in construction.

The summit is covered with more than 1000 species of plants (however, a quarter of them are mosses). Also on the extinct volcano there are rare representatives of the flora listed in the Red Book of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Russia. The slopes are overgrown with low iris, angustifolia lily, winter grass, Sudeten bladder and other rare plants.

The fauna of the Black Hill is also diverse. Red deer, sables, badgers, Altai moles, chipmunks and brown bears walk along its slopes. Numerous birds also nest at the top: black grouse, quail, wood grouse.

Pharmacy kindergarten

The square got its name because of its location near Pharmacy No. 1 on Prospekt Mira. The small open-air botanical garden is open during the warmer months. The area is equipped with tables and chairs, benches and swings, and instead of standard flower beds, medicinal herbs grow here.

Next to the garden there is an old pharmacy with a restored interior. The two-story building stores and sells medicines, and displays ancient medical recipes and medical supplies. All this is laid out on the shelves of antique furniture.

Park Island Tatyshev

The recreational zone is located right in the middle of the Yenisei on a small island and covers an area of 150 hectares. The park is positioned as a “sports” park.

On its territory there are more than 9 km of bicycle paths, tennis courts, horizontal bars for gymnastics and tables for playing table tennis. Outdoor exercise equipment and playgrounds are available for vacationers, including people with disabilities.

In winter, the island has a skating rink with an area of 17,000 square meters. m, and you can rent skates and skis right on the spot - at rental points.

The park has indoor pavilions for martial arts and a children's play area for families with children. Tatyshev hosts major sporting and cultural events.

The park is open at any time of the day, but you can rent a sports ground and the necessary equipment only from 10.00 to 22.00.

Eco-park "Gremyachya Iva"

The landscape space is located within the city, directly in the forest, which is the “lungs” of Krasnoyarsk. The area has 5 km of paths for cyclists and runners, as well as playgrounds and sports complexes. There are 4 km of illuminated paths for walking.

“Gremyachya Iva” was created for relaxation of all family members: there are playgrounds, mother and child rooms. In all other respects, this is an ordinary green park with numerous benches for relaxation. For comfortable walks in the cool season, a warm visitor center with public restrooms has been built, and in front of it there are two car parks.

Troy Park

The family leisure center is located in the Oktyabrsky district of Krasnoyarsk. It is designed primarily for children. There are more than 10 attractions on the territory, including for little visitors: mini-jet, frog, fast and furious.

Troy Park also has:

  • carousel;
  • trampoline;
  • electric cars;
  • auto track;
  • labyrinth;
  • dry pools;
  • road train.

You can see the park from a bird's eye view on the Ferris wheel. Children and adults weighing up to 100 kg are allowed here.

Central Park

The main park of Krasnoyarsk is located in the historical center - on the site of the former City Garden, which was laid out on the left bank of the Yenisei in 1882. It offers both active and passive recreation. On an area of 15 hectares, entertainment options include children's, family and extreme attractions.

Rocking chairs, trains, cars and helicopters, trampolines and slides are available for kids. Among the family attractions you can choose roller coasters, crazy bass, rockin tag, and rodeo. Adults and children can race together on the race track. Of all this diversity, the Ferris wheel with a diameter of 31.5 m stands out, offering a beautiful view of the park.

In the summer, a children's railway operates on the territory, and in winter, a skating rink is built on the site of the dance floor, next to which there is a skate rental service. Guests of the park can also visit the Room of Fear and the Room of Laughter with the oldest distorting mirrors beyond the Urals.

Squares of Krasnoyarsk

I’ll tell you a little about the main squares of the city - the place where many of the city’s attractions are concentrated. The city's two-level Theater Square is best known for its fountains.

  1. The first of them is a unique light and music fountain , built in the early 2000s. The fountain consists of 3 bowls; Jets of water “dancing” to classical music can be raised by pumps to a height of more than 40 m. Tourists are delighted with the laser show held at the fountain on weekends and holidays.
  2. Another fountain is located lower on the square and is called “Rivers of Siberia” . It is beautiful and original in its own way. Nearby you can see a monument to A.P. Chekhov, who visited these places. There is also a city administration building and an adjacent clock tower, built in the style of a city hall. Also on Theater Square, as befits it, is the local opera and ballet theater. In front of the theater, on a 13-meter column, there is a statue of Apollo. By the way, Krasnoyarsk is a very theatrical city - there are a total of 11 theaters of different genres operating here.

From Theater Square you can directly access the Communal Bridge.
Peace Square is the central and oldest square of Krasnoyarsk; it has existed for more than 200 years. Peace Square in Krasnoyarsk is also where you can see some of the city's main attractions.

  • The Krasnoyarsk cultural and historical museum complex is housed in a monumental building (formerly the V.I. Lenin Museum), surrounded by large creative art installations. The complex was recognized as the best European museum in 1997. Here is the largest (2500 sq. m.) exhibition center for contemporary art, and various exhibitions are held almost constantly, and museum nights are even held twice a year.
  • In the immediate vicinity of the complex there is a steamship-museum “St. Nicholas” , which transported Nicholas II and V.I. Lenin at different times (part of the exhibition is dedicated to them).
  • The memorial complex of Commander N.P. Rezanov consists of his bronze sculpture and a copy of the tombstone.
  • Also pay attention to the Triumphal Arch on the site of the Spasskaya Tower, the monument to the writer V.P. Astafiev, the memorial to the victims of political repression, the modern high-rise (27 m) towers of KATEKNII, the building of the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic, erected on the site of the destroyed Resurrection Cathedral.

The station square is located near railway station , which, due to its beauty, is itself a tourist attraction. The square is also notable for the sculpture of the lion depicted on the city's coat of arms and three magnificent fountains.

Places for walking

The pillars of gigantic size resemble the bizarre outlines of people, animals and birds, which is reflected in their names: Gemini, Turtle, Golden Eagle and others.

It was in these places that the famous rock climbing technique, carried out without insurance, was born - stolbism. Today, stolbism has become a real sociocultural phenomenon that has spread far beyond the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

It is noteworthy that at the beginning of the last century, the most radically minded youth gathered in these places, since these territories were rarely visited.

The reserve includes four rocky areas: Takmakovsky, Kaltatsky, Central and wild Stolby, where seven species of rare plants grow and several species of mammals listed in the Red Book live.

A guest town has been created for visitors to the reserve, where they can relax and plan a further excursion route. The reserve also offers seven unique ecological trails.

Embankment of the Yenisei River

Address: st. Dubrovinsky

The embankment is a favorite place for Krasnoyarsk residents for dates and walks. There are beautiful views of the Yenisei River, bridges, islands and the Torgashinsky ridge on the right bank.

At the beginning of summer, decorative “Dream” apple trees bloom along the embankment, which adds a special charm to this pedestrian street.

The total length of the embankment is about six kilometers.

Krasnoyarsk Flora and Fauna Park "Roev Ruchey"

Roev Ruchey Park opened its doors to visitors in 1999. On its territory there is one of the largest aquaterrariums in Russia and the only penguinarium beyond the Urals.

The park is open all year round, so you can plunge into the unusual world of nature at any time.

“Roev Ruchey” is a place where it will be interesting and educational for both children and adults.

House of merchant Tsukerman

Address: st. Lenina, 66 Phone: , Website: kkkm.ru/filialy-muzeya/literaturnyj-muzej/o-muzee Opening hours: 10:00-18:00 Tue-Sun, 13:00-21:00 Thu, Mon. — day off Cost: students, children — 50 rubles, pensioners — 70 rubles, adults — 100 rubles

Krasnoyarsk residents call the house of the “flour magnate” Zuckerman Teremok. Carved decorations, stucco moldings and fancy patterns are all fine handmade work. The building is a striking example of Art Nouveau with pseudo-Gothic elements.

The mansion was built at the end of the nineteenth century, but at the beginning of the twentieth century the house underwent dramatic changes under the leadership of the architect Sokolovsky and turned into real mansions.

Now the mansion houses the regional literary museum.

Hotel "New Russia"

Address: st. Lenina, 108

In the first half of the last century, the New Russia Hotel was considered the best hotel in the city. The building is designed in an eclectic style with a pale green color scheme, before becoming a hotel - it was a simple city mansion, to which an outbuilding was later added.

Once inside the house, pay attention to the interior, which has survived to this day almost unchanged.

Several years ago, during restoration work, a family archive of the owners of the house was discovered in the building, which is now presented to visitors in the regional museum.

Temples of Krasnoyarsk

I would like to highlight some of the city’s iconic buildings.

  • Intercession Cathedral of the 18th century , near the cathedral building you can see a monument to the artist Surikov.
  • The Annunciation Church of the 19th century is an active temple, with a convent of the same name located next to it.
  • The building of the Catholic Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord is a historical monument. It was built at the beginning of the last century, but since 1936 it has not been used for its intended purpose - various organizations were located here. In the 80s, an organ was installed, the organ hall of the Philharmonic was opened, and organ concerts began to be held, which can still be heard today. Recently, Catholic services have also been held.

Intercession Cathedral

Monument to internationalist soldiers in Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk residents also cherish the memory of their heroic fellow countrymen who died in international wars.

This is evidenced by the memorial, installed in 1994 on Poklonnaya Hill with public money and restored in 2005. Its authors are architect Sergei Gerashchenko and sculptor Boris Musat.

In the center of the memorial there is a sculpture of a young Siberian guy in a soldier's uniform, above which a memorial arch rises. Nearby there is an airborne combat vehicle - an armored personnel carrier monument, and the names of Krasnoyarsk residents who died in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Chechnya and Karabakh are carved on the memorial plaques.

Park area of Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk is full of various parks and squares; it is also famous for the abundance of various fountains, of which there are more than 100 in the city.

  • The central park was laid out in Sosnovy Bor at the end of the 19th century. Here you can have a good active holiday with children; visitors can enjoy a railway for children, a viewing wheel and many other attractions. For lovers of a quiet, peaceful holiday, there is a separate area with superbly selected relict trees.
  • Of particular interest are the Botanical Garden of the Siberian State University and the arboretum of the Institute of Forestry.
  • The Krasnoyarsk Zoo "Roev Ruchey" is one of the largest in Russia, opened next to the nature reserve "Krasnoyarsk Pillars". In addition to things traditional for an ordinary zoo, there are many noteworthy wonders here - a large aquaterrarium, a pool with sharks, and a penguinarium.

Krasnoyarsk Zoo "Roev Ruchey"

Monument to Uncle Yasha and the intern

The original sculpture with the no less original name “Uncle Yasha and the Intern” appeared in 2003 near the water utility building in honor of the 90th anniversary of the water utility. It is noteworthy that this sculptural composition was created based on a famous joke and in 2005 even became the winner of the All-Russian competition “The Funniest Monument”.

Museums of Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk is a major museum center in the region, and I couldn’t help but visit the largest museums in the city. The history of the city's local history museum dates back to the end of the 19th century. The building in which it is now located is an architectural monument of the last century in the Art Nouveau style, stylized as an ancient Egyptian building. Tourists are offered a huge collection of interesting, often unique exhibits on the history of the city and region from antiquity to the present day. The museum has several branches of different themes throughout the city. The Art Museum named after V. I. Surikov is recognized as one of the best in Russia - it consists of three parts:

  1. the department of Russian art of the 18th-19th centuries presents works by Russian artists, including Surikov, Aivazovsky, Benois, Nesterov, as well as a large collection of icons;
  2. the department of art of the 20th-21st centuries offers works by Vasnetsov, Ryazhsky, Grabar, as well as avant-garde artists: Malevich, Shterenberg, Popova;
  3. Department of Decorative and Applied Arts.

Museum of V.I. Surikov , who was born and lived part of his life here.

For tourists with a limited period of stay in the city, choosing where to go and what to see in Krasnoyarsk, below I offer an itinerary list of interesting places to visit in one day.

Monument to the founder of Krasnoyarsk Andrey Dubensky

And first of all, having arrived in Krasnoyarsk, it is worth visiting the monument to its founder - governor Andrei Dubensky, installed on Pokrovskaya Mountain, above the Yenisei River, in the place where the Kacha River flows into it. According to legend, it was after seeing this place – “high and red” – that Andrei Dubensky decided to found a fort, giving the city the name Krasny Yar. Since 2002, the bronze sculpture of the governor, made by sculptor Vladimir Girich and architect Mikhail Merkulov, has been beautifully illuminated at night.

What can a tourist see in 1 day?

If you only have one day, be sure to check out:

  • Yenisei embankment;
  • Central Park, Cathedral of the Transfiguration;
  • Karaulnaya Mountain, Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel, observation deck;
  • Revolution square;

Churches and monasteries

Chapel of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa

Address: st. Stepana Razina, 51a Opening hours: 07:00-00:00

Even those who have never been to Krasnoyarsk know the chapel of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, as it is depicted on the ten-ruble banknote.

Once upon a time, a pagan temple of the Kachin Tatars was located on this site. However, with the development of these lands by the Cossacks and settlers, the previous religious building was destroyed, and a watchtower was built in its place.

Several centuries later, at the beginning of the nineteenth century, merchant I.L. Novikov erected a wooden chapel instead of a tower, and half a century later, at the expense of gold miner Pyotr Kuznetsov, the structure was rebuilt in the Old Russian style, and in this form it still exists.

The chapel stands on the top of Karaulnaya Mountain, offering stunning views of the entire city. It is not for nothing that the great artist Vasily Surikov worked here on his paintings, and the famous Russian scientist A.S. Popov watched the solar eclipse from the platform next to the chapel.

At the end of the last century, the chapel was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church; once a year a procession of the cross is held here.

Holy Intercession Cathedral

Address: st. Surikova, 26 Telephone: Opening hours: 08:00-19:00 Cost: free

One of the oldest architectural monuments in Krasnoyarsk is the Church of the Intercession. Built at the end of the 18th century, it still amazes with its majesty and beauty.

The temple was built with the money of parishioners and is an example of Siberian baroque, harmoniously combining the features of Russian and European styles.

When visiting the cathedral, you should pay attention to the design of the central chapter of the temple, which resembles several letters “F”. This unusual element was brought with them by the Yenisei architects who worked on the creation of the church. In the ornament they encrypted the message: “Let all living things live and prosper!”

In the 1930s, the temple was closed and transferred to a military unit. Later it also housed a sculpture workshop and a city exhibition hall.

During the years of perestroika, the Holy Intercession Cathedral again returned to the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church. Today services are held here and various religious sacraments are performed.

Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord

Address: st. Dekabristov, 20 Website: catholic-krasnoyarsk.com

The first Catholic parish in Krasnoyarsk was established in 1836, and only twenty years later it was decided to build a building for the Roman Catholic Church.

Initially, the temple was made of wood; it was painted white outside and inside, and an organ was installed. However, the church gradually deteriorated and by the beginning of the 20th century a project for a new cathedral was developed. The architect was the famous provincial master V.A. Sokolovsky.

In 1911, the last finishing work was completed and services began to be held in the temple.

During the Soviet years, the church was used as a warehouse, radio committee, recording studio and cinema. In the 1980s, the Organ Hall, the only one in the city, was opened in the building.

Church of the Nativity

Address: Shchorsa street, 44A Telephone: Website: hram-rozhdestva.prihod.ru Opening hours: 08:00-18:30, daily Cost: free

One of the youngest churches in the city is the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, consecrated in 2012 by His Holiness. It is located in the very heart of the right bank of Krasnoyarsk and is one of the largest in the regional center. The church can accommodate about a thousand people at a time!

The church also has a Sunday school, an Orthodox leisure center, and a library.
