Znamensky Cathedral
There are several churches in the city, the most beautiful of which is considered the Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God . It was the first registered Russian Orthodox Church church in Kemerovo, opening its doors to believers in 1947. The wooden church was located in the center of the city, so with the beginning of a new wave of struggle against religion in 1960, it was destroyed to make way for construction. However, they decided to create a park at this place, and the believers were left with only one religious object - St. Nicholas Church .
During perestroika, when the authorities began to look at religious issues more liberally, after numerous appeals from believers, territory was allocated for the construction of a new temple, and in 1989 the first stone of the future church was laid and consecrated. Monument to the Dead Miners

The sculpture was commissioned by the governor of the Kemerovo region and was created by Ernst Neizvestny. In 2003, he even came specially from America and participated in the opening of the monument.

Monument to Mikhail Volkov

Mikhailo Volkov, an ore explorer of the 18th century, is considered the discoverer of Kemerovo. It was he who discovered coal deposits in this territory and thereby unwittingly contributed to the construction of the city 150 years later.
The author of the sculpture, G. Baranov, did not take a penny for his work, simply donating the monument to the city. Since no images of M. Volkov have survived to this day, his appearance is a figment of the sculptor’s imagination. The monument was opened in 1968 and is located opposite KuzSTU, which today trains specialists in the field of the coal industry.
