This church is the oldest in Voronezh. It can be found on Sofia Petrovskaya Street. The church was built in the 17th century and is considered the only building that has survived to this day, which is evidence of the life of Peter the Great in Voronezh.

Initially the church was wooden. But one day, after the river flooded, the church was flooded and it was destroyed. After this, it was decided to rebuild a stone church. At the end of the 17th century, a palace for Peter and chambers for other high-ranking officials of that era were built near the church. An admiralty was built on an island in front of the river.

The main function of the church was to illuminate ships being launched. In 1696, a ship built like a galley, which was called the Principium, was first illuminated and then launched. Later this ship took part in the military campaign against Azov.
