Give your meeting a little exotic! An oriental fairy tale in the fragrant place “Hakuna Matata” is the most suitable atmosphere. An indispensable attribute of an oriental date is a good hookah. Here you can comfortably lie on pillows in dim light with a cup of tea. Blow out neat smoke rings and philosophize on the topic of eternal love. There are days when there are promotions, for example, a water hookah costs 250 rubles. There is also a decent selection of fresh tobacco. Actors of the Voronezh theater project “New Theater” Maria Konotop and Damir Mirkamilov will give a reading of the play “Once More About Love,” based on “104 Pages about Love” by Edward Radzinsky. Reading is a kind of theatrical genre where, instead of scenery, the audience is invited to use their own imagination, and instead of viewing the mise-en-scène, they are simply invited to enjoy the talent of the artists who create the characters. The play refers to Soviet times, when two professions were especially important - physicist and flight attendant. A brilliant scientist conducting secret experiments meets a beautiful young woman working as a flight attendant. The characters look at life completely differently, but nevertheless try to understand each other and maintain tender feelings. 16+
What to bring from Voronezh
Stickers with district logos
Voronezh designer Mark Boldyrev came up with daring logos for unofficial areas of the city, where it is considered dangerous to walk in the dark, and made stickers with them. You can also order a T-shirt from him with the names of these areas.

An unobvious but pleasant souvenir is the products of the Central Market. Take marshmallows, chocolates and handmade candies. You can choose sets in beautiful gift packaging.
Magazine about Voronezh
“Words” is a glossy magazine about city life. In it you can read interviews with Voronezh residents, stories about the city and residents, find a selection of the best establishments and a section with discoveries of the month. The magazine can be borrowed for free in coffee shops, flower shops and beauty salons. The full list of places is in the group on the social network VKontakte.
Zines of Voronezh comic book authors
The comics publishing house "Grotesk" produces zines (amateur small-circulation publications) and postcards related to Voronezh. For example, their authors created a series of parody zines about anthropomorphic crows who save the city from Peter I, collect semcoins (from the word “bitcoins”) and lead a riotous life on the streets of Voronezh. This year, the publishing house released a zine about Yura Khoy from the Gaza Strip: the musician lived in Voronezh, in one of the disadvantaged areas. Another great souvenir is “Grotesque” postcards from the “Memory” series with Voronezh monuments, including Bim.
You can purchase zines and postcards from the publisher directly or buy them at your local comics shop.
Antiques
For those who love unique antiques, but don’t want to rummage through a flea market, we recommend bringing a souvenir from the Zanovo project. Soviet posters, music boxes, vases, Primus stoves and other household items are sold here. And if you are not afraid of the size of souvenirs, you can even take restored shell chairs, a table or a sofa.

Second day
Having explored the historical center of Voronezh on the first day, it’s worth going to explore lesser-known and more remote tourist sites. Another option is a trip outside the city: the Voronezh region is famous for its picturesque landscapes.
Monument to the ship "Mercury"
If you plan to stay in the city, then start the day with a trip to the area around the Vogresovsky Bridge . Near the bridge, in the waters of the Voronezh Reservoir , there is a monument to the ship "Mercury" . A replica of the ship was installed on a concrete power line pole in 1972. It is believed that in Peter’s times there was a lock here, equipped with a dam to raise the water level. What is Barquelon Mercury known for? This sailing-rowing warship was built at a shipyard in Voronezh, and later successfully participated in battles on the southern borders of Russia. Once, it even sank, but was raised and repaired. "Mercury" served its service until 1716 - then the decommissioned ship was dismantled.
Since the monument is located in the center of the water area, it is difficult to see it in detail from the shore or bridge - it is better to approach by boat or, if you are visiting Voronezh in winter, to approach closer on the ice. Every year the ship tilts its hull lower and lower towards the water - it is often called the Voronezh analogue of the Leaning Tower of Pisa .

Scarlet Sails Park
Go to the left bank of the river and take a walk along the Aircraft Builders embankment - this will take you to the Scarlet Sails park . This is one of the centers of cultural life of the city. The pine park overlooking the dam is perfect for families with children, picnics and active pastime. In the warm season, the park often hosts concerts and other entertainment events. The territory is divided into thematic zones: green, city of birds, library. There are areas for outdoor games.

Diorama
Behind the park is the Diorama Museum . It was founded on the basis of a center for patriotic education. The opening was timed to coincide with the 55th anniversary of the Victory Day. In front of the museum there are models of military equipment and sculptures dedicated to the heroes of the Fatherland. The exhibition inside the museum (visiting is free) is divided into several thematic sections. One hall introduces visitors to the heroes of the city who participated in the Great Patriotic War. In another room you can see a diorama clearly demonstrating the battles on the Chizhovsky bridgehead.
On the second floor of the museum there is an exhibition dedicated to the navy with objects from the time of Peter I. Here you can also learn the history of the development of aviation in Voronezh. A separate hall is dedicated to internationalist soldiers who fought in Afghanistan, Cuba and the North Caucasus.

Monument "Rotunda"
Take a taxi or public transport back to the Central District of Voronezh. The next point on the route is the intersection of Burdenko and Transportnaya streets. The Rotunda monument and the Vladimir Church are located here . The rotunda is the remains of a building reminiscent of the destructive power of war. Before the war, there was a clinical hospital built here in the 30s. During the Battle of Voronezh, the hospital area became the site of fierce fighting: it repeatedly passed from one side to the other. After the war, bricks from the walls of the dilapidated hospital were stolen, and there were no funds for restoration. All that was left of the hospital was a reinforced concrete frame with columns and a dome. Residents began to call the building “Rotunda”. Later, the authorities decided to leave the Rotunda as a monument.

Kitten from Lizyukov Street
3.5 km from the Rotunda is one of the most famous street sculptures in the city. The monument to the cartoon character “Kitten from Lizyukov Street” was erected in 2003 in front of the entrance to the Mir cinema. The monument is removed from the center - for the sake of credibility, it was installed on General Lizyukov Street, where the Voronezh cartoon character lived. The sculptural composition consists of a tree, on the branches of which the kitten Vasya and a crow are sitting. In Voronezh it is considered a good omen to pet a kitten. But the monument often becomes a victim of vandals—the kitten’s wire whiskers are broken off.

The rest of the day can be devoted to leisurely walks around your favorite places, relaxing in one of the parks or country trips.

Divnogorye Museum-Reserve
80 km south of Voronezh is the architectural and archaeological museum-reserve "Divnogorye" . Divnogorye is located on the picturesque bank of the Don River next to the village of the same name. Currently, Divnogorye is a candidate for inclusion in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The total area of the protected area is 11 sq. km. The landscape consists of chalk deposits in the form of pillars-outcrops (maximum height - 181 meters). In the chalk remains you can find algae from the bottom of the ancient sea - when wet, these fragments of algae turn green and swell. The nature in the surrounding area is different from Voronezh - the border of the steppe zone passes here.
Divnogorye Photo: © Sonic_off
“Divnogorye” is not only a unique natural place, but also a center of pilgrimage. On the territory of the museum-reserve, as well as in its surroundings, there are cave churches in chalk rocks and the Divnogorsk Assumption Monastery . The most famous cave church is the Temple of the Sicilian Icon of the Mother of God . The Orthodox church was carved out of the chalk outcrop after 1831 - during this period the Sicilian Icon of the Mother of God was found here. Along the church stairs, tourists can climb to the top of the mountain (180 meters) and admire the views of the Tikhaya Sosna River valley and steppe expanses.
The Divnogorsk Assumption Monastery was founded in the 17th century, but the cave church is much older than the holy monastery. The monastery is active - you can walk around the territory for tourism purposes, or you can attend a divine service. On summer Sundays, a late liturgy is celebrated in the cave church. Also included in the museum-reserve is the Mayatskoye settlement of the 9th–10th centuries - a necropolis and the remains of medieval fortifications of the Khazars. There are trails with signs throughout the reserve, there is a campsite and a hotel. Several underground museums are planned to open.

“Voronezh is a city of courage,” locals often say. Therefore, it’s simply impossible to come here and not raid the bars. A few years ago, speakeasy bars appeared in the city - semi-secret establishments without signs, which only “insiders” know about. There are currently three such bars: Eight, Boulevardier and Mizuwari. For visitors, this is an excellent option to get to know the city, but before visiting such a bar you need to write on your Instagram account and warn that you are coming - they will explain to you how to find the establishment.

Voronezh is built on a hill, so in the city center there are many steep ascents and descents that you have to climb. Nizami is the name given to an area on a slope with narrow streets and private houses leading from the city center to the reservoir. Many monuments of wooden architecture have been preserved there and the atmosphere of royal Voronezh is created. You can start your walk from Admiralteyskaya Square, Petrovskaya or Massalitinov embankments and climb up any narrow street.

Voronezh is one of the main centers of contemporary art in Russia, and the gallery H.L.A.M. became one of its first centers in the city. It usually hosts exhibitions and performances by artists from all over Russia. Last year Pakhom showed his works at the gallery, and before that there was an exhibition of the controversial artist Polina Muzyka. In 2018, a festival dedicated to the work of the famous Russian theater and film director Boris Yukhananov was held here. TRASH. represents Voronezh artists at the main Russian contemporary art fair Cosmoscow, and at Winzavod in 2021 the exhibition “In the Glorious City of Voronezh” was held.
There are currently no exhibitions in the gallery and it is closed to visitors. It is convenient to follow announcements in a group on the social network VKontakte.

Parks
Where to relax in Voronezh on weekends in the summer? The capital of the Black Earth Region is a sunny and green city. The climate here is warmer than in Moscow. During the warm season, it is especially pleasant to spend weekends in Voronezh in nature. To do this, you don’t have to go outside the city (although it’s worth visiting the surrounding area if possible); you can go to one of the Voronezh parks. The most popular vacation spot in recent years is the Scarlet Sails Park . The recreation area is located on the left bank of the Voronezh River (on the opposite side of the Goto Predestination ship). Pine Park is divided into several recreation areas: on the shore you can rent boats and catamarans, inside the park you can visit concert and dance venues, a green zone and a city of birds. Play sports on the playgrounds equipped for active games.
