How has the city of Kirov changed over the past 10 years?

In June 2021, a panoramic car from the Yandex company again drove through our city. All photographs are taken in very good resolution, any panorama can be zoomed in and small details can be easily seen. But the most interesting thing is not that Yandex panoramas allow you to virtually walk along the streets of our city and even possibly find your friends in the pictures (though faces are blurred in all the pictures), but that Kirov residents now have a cool opportunity to compare Kirov 2010 of the year and Kirov 2021. This is an incredibly exciting activity, we recommend it to everyone. We, the entire editorial team, virtually walked around Kirov from two different times and collected for you the most interesting, in our opinion, changes in the city during this period. Be careful, there may be an attack of acute nostalgia!

We started from the station. In general, with the exception of the appearance of the BOOM and LETO shopping center, there have been no major changes in the station area.

The circus has a few more changes. Here you have McDonald's and a Ferris wheel, it's a pity you can't take a virtual walk through the park.

But here, if you look closely, you can see Karabas-Barabas - the favorite cafe of all children of that time. It was a good place; we and our friends spent many holidays there.

We decided to continue our walk around the Palace of Pioneers and came across another change of the last decade. There was a lot of controversy around this place, and among Kirov residents there was a rumor that a water park would appear here, larger and better than the one in Kazan. Well, a great place for training with the whole family with an outdoor warm pool - that’s cool too.

It seemed huge until they made it even bigger. We are, of course, talking about the central department store, which in 10 years acquired an additional wing, grew by one floor and had underground parking.

From the Central Department Store we rushed to the center to find out how the territory of the city administration has changed. As can be seen in the photo, the shopping areas and gambling establishments near the medical university have disappeared and a huge, first high-rise building in the city has grown. But the construction of the medical university building has not moved forward in 10 years, but this week information appeared that it will still be completed by 2023.

From the administration we went down Karl Marx Street, towards Theater Square and saw the Oktyabr cinema, in the building of which there is now a workshop.

The next stop on our walk was the Fabrika shopping center. The photo shows the shopping center before the fire in 2013. The photo doesn’t even show the iconic bar for our city - ChePay; it will open only a year later in 2011.

Having turned the main streets, we came to another significant place for Kirov residents - Pobeda, that is, Gaudi. We are sure that the thought “Exactly, Victory” flashed through your head too. How strongly Gaudi has secured its status as a venue for concerts and events, and yet it was once one of the largest cinemas in our city.

From Pobeda we decided to walk to the embankment and along the way we saw something that really surprised us. The Spassky Cathedral is simply unrecognizable. And of course, the factory, which during this time managed to close twice, but opened three times.

How beautiful and clean the embankment has become. It is a pleasure to walk along it.

The beauty of virtual walks is that you can jump from anywhere in the city to wherever you want. We decided to jump to the scarlet sails. We think comments are unnecessary here.

Sunny Beach. Just some 10 years, and such a huge amount of new housing.

It’s the same story with Chistye Prudy. Just 10 years and the field turns into a huge microdistrict.

And for today we are finishing our walk through the virtual city, leaving you the opportunity to explore it yourself in such an unusual way. We advise you to peer into the silhouettes of people; we saw several friends this way. And we remind you once again that you can take a virtual walk in Yandex maps, in the panorama section. Have a nice weekend everyone.

The most interesting photos of Kirov from the archive of B.K. Lysov

Evgeny FRA continues to tell the amazing history of our city, this time in the entry tornado-84.livejournal.com/242273 The most interesting photographs from the archive of B.K. Lysov:

In some notes I use photographs of Boris Konstantinovich Lysov with views of the city of Kirov 1960-1990. I decided to make a separate story about his photographs - the most interesting in my opinion. ——— 1. A ragpicker at work on one of the streets of the city of Kirov. 1960s

How our lives have changed! Where will we see a ragpicker today? And the appearance of the city has changed beyond recognition - it is difficult to say where the author captured this street scene.

———

2. At the bus station. Gypsy woman with a baby. 1960s

Khrushchev's time was not easy for people accustomed to a nomadic lifestyle. In October 1956, a decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR was issued “On the introduction to work of gypsies engaged in vagrancy.” The gypsies had to settle where the decree found them.

———

3. Lenin Street, bus station. 1960s

The bus station was located on Lenin Street, at the intersection with Blucher Street. A very photogenic man in a padded jacket and tarpaulin boots.

———

4. Day off for fishing. 1960s(?)

On the left in the photo is the father of Boris Konstantinovich Lysov, Konstantin Konstantinovich. A very interesting scene. So you wonder what the men were talking about.

———

5. Volodarskogo Street, view to the south from the intersection with Drylevskogo Street. 1950s

Winter Vyatka, covered with snow. Sheer charm. Smoke from chimneys. This place is difficult to recognize; today there is a long staircase with flower beds and benches. On the left is the old governor’s house and the children’s park (“Apollo”). The old houses on the right are long gone - now there is a new puppet theater building here.

———

6. K. Liebknecht Street at the intersection with Stepan Khalturin Street. 1960s

Sled! The mountainous and quiet streets of old Vyatka provided an excellent opportunity for children to sled. There was no need to be afraid of cars - they simply weren’t there.

———

7. Bolshevikov Street, view south from the intersection with Kommuny Street. 1960s

Corner of the former Cathedral Square. The concert hall of the art school has not yet been built. The familiar bell tower of the Spassky Cathedral is also missing. On the right there are two queues: on the steps to the “Fish” store (in house No. 3 on Kommuny Street) and to the store in the building of the former Gostiny Dvor. The queue at the store is an invariable attribute of Soviet life. The author of the photo clearly did not intend to capture the queues, it just happened.

———

8. Bolshevikov Street, view to the south from the intersection with Drelevskogo Street. 1960s

Another piece of the old city. The photo shows an old building of retail shops on the southeast corner of the intersection. Later, during the restoration of the drinking house (“prikaznaya”) hut, this building of shops will be demolished. The hut stood in the courtyard of this building with benches. Seraphim Church and the TV tower are visible in the distance.

———

9. Upper market. 1950s

At the end of the 1950s. The market was moved to its current location - to the square between Proletarskaya and Militseiskaya streets. And on the site of the ancient Semenovskaya Square, a park named after Gagarin was built and residential buildings were built (Lenin, 102-a and 102-v) and the building of the regional philharmonic society. Seraphim Church on Kommunisticheskaya Street (Orlovskaya) is still blocked by old houses; now in place of these houses there is a square in front of the church.

———

10. Kommunisticheskaya Street to the west from the intersection with Bolshevikov Street. 1950s

The same market, view from the street. The roadway of Kommunisticheskaya Street is still paved with stone. There are few cars (trucks), many pedestrians. There are still sculptures on the cornice of the shoe store building (Lenina, 95-a).

———

11. Summer theater in the garden named after St. Khalturin. 1960s

Built at an accelerated pace in 1934 (in three months), the wooden summer theater did not last long; in 1962, the dilapidated building was dismantled. Now in its place is a concert venue.

——— 12. K. Marx Street, view south from the intersection with Mopra Street to Truda Street. 1960s

The intersection of K. Marx and Truda streets is the former Pupyrevskaya Square, Pupyrevka. They began to build it up with large houses even before the war. But the old wooden houses with fences and gates held out for a long time. On the left now is a five-story building with a Globus store (formerly Ocean).
