One of the main cities of Eastern Siberia, many tourists associate Irkutsk with Lake Baikal. Fair enough, because the great lake, or more precisely, the village of Listvyanka, is only 70 km away. Of course, during a visit to Irkutsk you should definitely go to Lake Baikal. But he himself is completely self-sufficient. This is a prosperous city with theaters, parks, large shopping centers and other attributes corresponding to the status of a regional center. At the same time, entire blocks of wooden and stone buildings and beautiful churches in the Siberian Baroque style have been preserved here.

To watch a movie

Cinemas operate with no more than 50% occupancy.
You don't need a QR code to watch the movie. But if you go to cinema halls with a separate entrance (Barguzin, Zvezdny, Don Othello, Khudozhestvenny, House of Cinema), then problems may arise with cinemas in shopping centers. Superheroes of the Marvel universe are back in the movies! Buy tickets for the film “The Eternals” online at IRK.ru Poster.

So, you can get to Kinomax, which is located in the SILVERmall shopping center, only by passing through the shopping complex. And at the entrance you will definitely be asked to present a QR code or a certificate stating that you have had coronavirus. You must have an identification document with you.

The same thing with “KinoKvartal” in the “Modny Kvartal” shopping center, “KinoMall” in the “YarkoMall” shopping center and “Kino Jam” in the “Jem Mall” shopping center. This rule does not apply to visitors under 18 years of age.

For spectators of the New Cinema cinema, a separate entrance has been organized in the Novy shopping center - it is located to the right of the entrance to the center. By the way, the cinema announced on its Instagram that it provides a discount on tickets to those who have a QR code. Details can be found at the box office or by phone: (3952) 500-558.

You can view the current schedule of Irkutsk cinemas and buy tickets online in the IRK.ru Poster.

Where to go for free

At the intersection of Lenin and Sukhbaatar streets, surrounded by government buildings, there is a park named after. Kirov is one of the most popular walking places for city residents. In the warm season, flower beds bloom here and a fountain operates. And in winter, everything sparkles with lights - it is in this place that the main Christmas tree of Irkutsk is installed and an ice town with slides and sculptures is erected.

Fountain in the park named after. Kirov is the first in Irkutsk. It was built in St. Petersburg and brought to Siberia in 1959 specifically for the planned visit of US President Dwight Eisenhower. And although the arrival of the American guest ultimately did not take place, the fountain remained in its place.

Also on the territory of the square there is a miniature (on a scale of 1:500) panorama of Irkutsk from 1900. On the bronze patch are all the most recognizable buildings of the city - the Cathedral of the Epiphany, the Roman Catholic Church, the Iverskaya Chapel, the Annunciation Church, the Moscow Gate... Not far from the mini- Irkutsk - the picturesque chapel of Our Lady of Kazan.

A relatively new attraction for the city is the pedestrian cable-stayed bridge (October Revolution Street, 1). Thanks to its stylish design and location in the city center, it has confidently entered the Instagram accounts of residents and guests of Irkutsk. The bridge is very convenient, without steps, so cyclists, mothers with strollers and people with disabilities like to walk along it. By the way, a walk with “spice” - during a strong wind the bridge shakes quite a bit, but this does not affect its safety in any way. The maximum height of the structure is 21 m, length - 45 m, track width - 4 m.

Quests are an adventure game format that has long gained popularity. Many companies in this profile have programs for children in their arsenal, including the Irkutsk quest.

The choice of children's stories here is quite extensive: children can become spies in space, find themselves in a dragon's cave, plunge into the mystical atmosphere of the Secret Mirror quest program, or undergo training at the Superheroes training base.

Young history buffs will love the quest show “Secrets of Ancient Egypt.” As a rule, the center’s children’s programs are designed for participants aged 6 or 8 years.

"Jungle Territory"

  • Address: st. Sergeeva, 3B, 2nd floor.

You can move in time and space without leaving Irkutsk. The city is home to the “Jungle Territory”, where quests are held specifically for children. The children are invited to take part in a game with an exciting plot.

The quest show "Dinopolis" is a fascinating adventure in a mysterious forest and a team competition, based on the idea of the famous presenter S. Suponev and his popular children's program of the 90s "Call of the Jungle". The name of the quest show hints that it will not be possible without dinosaurs, and this topic traditionally captivates children.

Another game program in “Jungle Territories” is called “The Last Hero” and uses the principles and motives of the popular reality show about survival, which, through a string of interpretations, goes back to the famous books of D. Defoe and W. Golding.

Children's leisure

  • Address: 1st Moskovskaya st., 1A; Bratskaya st., 2/1, 2nd floor.

“Kapitoshka” has large playrooms with entertainment for small and older children and a banquet hall for children’s parties with a candy bar and photo zone. The leisure center is located at two addresses: on the street. Moskovskaya and st. Bratskaya.

In the playrooms, little ones can enjoy soft slides, a ball pit, a water trampoline, and a huge selection of toys; older children can enjoy attractions, including, for example, a seething waterfall, and educational games.

Children's playroom "Lego Quarter"

  • Address: Deputatskaya st., 84/1, 2nd floor.

The Lego Quarter on Deputatskaya Street, by its very name, hints that the concept of the playroom is built around the most popular children's construction set in the world.

In addition to a variety of Lego sets, of which there are more than 100, the playroom also offers other entertainment, such as a children's labyrinth with slides and a dry pool.

In the "Lego Quarter" animators work with children, children's programs and parties are held. This is a place where you can give free rein to your imagination and fantasy, as well as have plenty of frolic and play.

Go to a concert

Touring activities in the Irkutsk region are prohibited. Concerts of Diana Arbenina, Guf and other performers scheduled for early November have been postponed.

The Irkutsk Regional Philharmonic is working. But the next concert will take place only next week - November 9.

The only place you can listen to live music on weekends is in bars. So, on November 5, guitarist Vitaly Budyak (12+) will perform at the Edison Bar with the program “Secrets of the Small Ocean”. In general, performances will take place at the Edison Bar almost every evening - you can follow the announcements on the bar’s social networks.

Evening performances by local performers are planned at the Jackson Pub, Rock Bar, Herats Pub chain, Johnny Rockets Bar and other establishments. There is a restriction in place: bars must close to customers promptly at 11:00 p.m. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance.

Nature and fauna of Irkutsk

Animals are children’s friends, places where you can see them and learn more about our little brothers are one of the most obvious options where you can go with your child.

Irkutsk Zoo

  • Address: st. Koltsova, 93.

For a long time, Irkutsk did not have a full-fledged zoo where children could get acquainted with animals. The head of the zoo area of the Botanical Garden, Andrei Sedykh, drew attention to this in 2011.

He got excited about the idea of creating such an institution. By April 2013, on the basis of the university's living corner, the Irkutsk children's zoo was opened, located on the territory of the Botanical Garden, in Kayskaya Grove, which is called the “lungs of the city.”

Since 2021, with the growth of the exhibition and the expansion of its format, the children's zoo has been renamed the Irkutsk Zoo. Now more than 50 species of living creatures live there - mammals, birds and reptiles.

Siberian Zoo

  • Address: ave. Marshala Zhukova, 36/4.

The private zoo is located in two locations - in Irkutsk itself and in the village of Listvyanka at the source of the Angara River. Initially, the concept of the zoo was to present the diversity of the fauna of Siberia and domestic animals, but gradually the collection has grown, and now the zoo also houses animals not typical for Siberia - macaques, gibbons, meerkats, loris, etc.

Animals typical of the Siberian region can also be seen here. Listvyanka is home to bears, wolves, foxes, lynxes and other inhabitants of taiga forests. Children under 3 years old are entitled to free admission.

Irkutsk nerpinarium

  • Address: 2nd Zheleznodorozhnaya st., 66.

Performances involving aquatic animals are popular among children. The first thing that comes to mind is dolphins. Dolphinariums are especially popular in southern, mainly resort coastal cities.

In Irkutsk, which is located near Lake Baikal, there is a similar institution with local specifics - a nerpinarium, where the Baikal seal gives a performance. It has been working since 2004. Meeting the cute animal and the 45-minute show with its participation will definitely be remembered by children for a long time.

Currently, performances are held in two places, at the legal address on 2nd Zheleznodorozhnaya Street, as well as in the village of Listvyanka. The programs are almost identical, with minor differences.

House of nature

  • Address: Baikalskaya st., 54.

The private museum “House of Nature” has been operating since 2021 as a public organization. It was created by enthusiasts from the Irkutsk Zoo Gallery Animal Assistance Center. Essentially, this is a zoo where animals, birds live, and aquariums with fish.

There are raccoons, squirrels, parrots, lizards and other animals, including domestic cats and dogs beloved by many children, which, unfortunately, not everyone can keep at home; here you can interact with them. Getting to know animals in the “House of Nature” is complemented by an exhibition on zoological topics.

Maybe to a museum?

Long weekends are conducive to a leisurely, measured rest. You can, for example, plan a trip to a museum. You will not need a QR code to visit, but pre-registration is required.

On November 4, National Unity Day, the all-Russian event “Night of Arts” (0+) will be held. Irkutsk museums will join it, but only in an online format. The Art Museum has prepared a program that includes several new films, videos and master classes. You can watch it on the institution’s Youtube channel.

On November 4 at 21:00 the “Night of Arts” event will be held on the Victor Bronstein Gallery’s social media accounts. Everyone will be able to listen to the audio tour and take part in the quiz.

On November 6, the Valentin Rasputin Museum invites children 7-11 years old to a creative workshop “How to create your own fairy tale?” (6+). During the lesson you will read “Baikal Lake Fairy Tales” and come up with your own fascinating story.

On November 6, the Irkutsk Museum of Local Lore invites you to a two-hour tour of the memorable and historical places of Irkutsk (0+). The number of participants is limited.

In the footsteps of the Decembrists

A significant place for Irkutsk residents is located near the embankment, near the confluence of the Ushakovka River into the Angara. We are talking about the Znamensky Convent, founded in 1689. True, the first buildings were made of wood, so at the beginning of the 18th century the rather dilapidated monastery was rebuilt from a more durable material, stone. The Decembrist Grigory Shelikhov and Princess Trubetskoy and their children rest in the necropolis located on the territory of the monastery. And at the Holy Gates there is a monument to Admiral Alexander Kolchak, who was arrested and executed in Irkutsk.

In general, there are many “Decembrist” addresses in the city - Irkutsk was a place of exile for the rebels. Their houses and household items became an excellent basis for the Museum of the Decembrists. It consists of two estates: Sergei Trubetskoy (64 Dzerzhinsky St.) and Sergei Volkonsky (10 Volkonsky Lane). The Museum of the Decembrists presents original items and interior items of the exiled noble families of the Trubetskoys, Volkonskys, Muravyovs, and Yushnevskys. Visitors will see the only working pyramidal piano in the world, Maria Volkonskaya, and a luxurious bead collection - the work of the prince's wives.

Due to the harsh climate, life in Irkutsk until the 20th century was very difficult. But the exiled Decembrists did not lose heart and made a significant contribution to the development of Irkutsk as the cultural center of Siberia. They taught children to read and write and helped townspeople and peasants.

Where to relax with children in Irkutsk? Kayaking and feeding predators

Summer, vacation! It's time to organize family outings. But what to do if children are bored at banal barbecues by the river, and unbridled games on playgrounds are not suitable for parents? The IrCity portal has collected the best places to stay in Irkutsk and its surroundings, where all family members will enjoy it.

Horse Island

The first place that comes to mind when you hear the words “family vacation” is Konny Island. A popular recreation area in both winter and summer, which is located in the city center.

You can get there by public transport, getting off at the “Trud”, “Philharmonic”, “Academic Bridge” stops, or by car. There are parking lots near the children's railway - one for 100 spaces and two for 50. If suddenly there is no parking space there, you can always park on Gagarin or Karl Marx Boulevard near Irkutsk State University.

If you enter from the side of the monument to Alexander III, the first entertainment on your way will be the Yunost rope park. You can spend 1.5 hours of fun here, but you won’t be able to leave your child and walk around the island yourself. Children under 14 years of age are allowed only with adults, children under 18 - only with written parental consent.

There are rabbits, raccoons, minks, and ferrets on the island. You can look at everyone, but you cannot touch them; most of the animals are in enclosures. But you can feed the rabbits. You don’t need to buy any special food, just take carrots and cabbage from home and go ahead to meet the little ears.

Irkutsk Zoo

If it seems that there are not enough animals on Trout Island, then you should visit the zoo. More than 70 species live there. The zoo is located on the territory of the ISU Botanical Garden at Koltsova Street, 93. You can get to the animals by public transport, get off at the Botanical Garden stop and cross the railway tracks. By car you need to go from the direction of the Campus. When you turn right from Lermontov Street, there will be many options for how to get to the zoo in the private sector, one of them is on the map.

There is a ticket office at the entrance to the zoo. An adult ticket from 14 years old costs 350 rubles, a child ticket from 4 to 13 years old costs 250 rubles. For pensioners - 200 rubles. They also offer a family ticket (two adults + one child) for 750 rubles. You can also buy animal food there: a large glass costs 100 rubles, a small glass costs 50. It is strictly forbidden to bring your own food, even if it comes from your grandmother’s garden.

What do you need to know to visit the zoo? Not all animals can be touched and fed. Those on whose cage there is a bright red “Predator” sign are best viewed from the sidelines. For the slow-witted, the zoo staff even put up a sign: “Don’t put your fingers in the cage. The fine is one finger."

There is another way to understand whether it is possible to contact the animal: if the enclosure is open (as in the first photo), then you can pet it, if it is closed with a net (as in the second), then you cannot.

Near each animal there is a sign showing how to properly give it food. Despite the fact that some are behind the net, you can also feed them. For example, this applies to peacocks, pheasants and emus. You can throw food on the floor for peacocks and pheasants, and just bring a glass to the emu, and he will peck from it himself.

I’ll tell you a little secret: you can also feed some predators, but only with permission and in the presence of one of the zoo employees. By the way, you can ask them questions about animals. Employees are easily identified by their bright green T-shirts.

Washbasins were thoughtfully placed on the territory, so you can feed the animals without worrying about slobbering palms.

Do you also remember how it usually smells in zoos, especially mobile ones, where you approach the cage and hurry to move away before you faint from the stunning aroma? So there is no such bad smell here, and walking between the enclosures is quite pleasant.

In addition to the enclosures, the zoo has two contact zones. In the first one, a horde of rabbits is always waiting for guests. And in the second zone, animals are periodically changed during the day. It's like a lottery - you never know who you'll get. Turtles, little raccoons, baby goats or a mini pig named Cherry. “Our Cherry on the Cake,” her employees lovingly call her.

Zoo employees, in principle, often throw out funny phrases about their inhabitants. For example, a pig was presented to us as “300 kilograms of happiness.” When they talked about foxes that are now molting and therefore do not look very attractive, and you should look at them in winter, they added: “In summer they are beautiful in their own way - this is arthouse aesthetics!”

The employees have not only encyclopedic knowledge, but also many interesting stories about their charges. For example, employees call this donkey “the sociable one.” This is because she doesn’t like living alone in an enclosure. “We put her up alone, but then she started screaming, refusing to eat and constantly walking around sad,” says tour guide Natalya.

Now she lives with the horse Ragnar. “See that feeder where visitors can put food? So, children are different: someone pours out the whole glass at once - and Ragnar is happy! And someone throws him one thing at a time, then he hits the feeder with his hoof and demands more! In general, we are steadily repairing this feeder,” Natalya laughs.

In the zoo, even an ordinary cow can surprise you, because she has her own special way of accepting treats from visitors. Bring a glass of food to her, then she will stick out her big tongue, where you need to pour food! And your hands are free of drool, and the cow is happy.

Have you ever seen a mini-hayloft for visitors at a zoo? And here there is such entertainment - you can roll in the hay.

Perhaps you cannot see everything at once in one visit. Some animals shed seasonally and need to be looked at at other times of the year. Everyone has their own regime: someone can sleep in their house during the day, while others always show up only in the late afternoon. And about the peacock, the employees say that he is just like a person - if he is in the mood, he will show his gorgeous tail, but if not, he will not show it, no matter what you do. So the zoo is a place where you can return again and again.

Les Miracles Recreation Park

If you are tired of city entertainment and want to spend time away from Irkutsk, then it’s time to go on a trip through the fairytale forest. The park is located on the 25th kilometer of the Goloustnensky tract in the village of Svetly Yar. If you are driving a car, then turn off the road at the sign with the name of the village, move straight along the road and you definitely won’t miss it. You can also get there by bus No. 133 and minibuses No. 420 and No. 421. We get off at the “Polivanikha” stop, also look for the turn with the “Svetly Yar” sign and walk about a kilometer to the park.

Entrance to the park costs 250 rubles for adults, 150 rubles for pensioners and children under 16 years old. Children under 4 years old are free. Anti-tick treatment has been carried out on the territory, but at the checkout you can use anti-tick spray for free if you wish.

From time to time, the park hosts quests and performances with animators. They are carried out both by request for groups and simply for everyone on the weekend. Admission prices for performances are, of course, higher. For example, the already completed programs “Journey through the Book of Fairy Tales” and “Night of Fright” cost 450 and 850 rubles, respectively.

The park administrator said that programs with animators have now been suspended for about a month, but will definitely be resumed, as they are in great demand.

Along the entire trail there are some kind of art objects: babayki, devils and other fairy-tale characters. The information signs tell you not to touch them, the heroes don't like that.

The first major structure on the way will be the heroic outpost. The “do not touch” rule does not apply to large objects. Here you can climb to the second floor and explore your rich possessions, and climb on a mini-climbing wall. There is a table with benches for parents to relax while their little heroes and princesses play.

Next along the course is Baba Yaga's house. Everything is as it should be - a hut and a scary fence with skulls. There is something to consider: the hostess herself in the mortar, an owl above the door, a mushroom with an evil face. You can also climb inside the hut and see how Baba Yaga lives (spoiler – poor thing).

After staying with Baba Yaga, we go down to the “Lake of Youth”, where there is an opportunity to relax by the water. If you cross the bridge and walk a little along the path, you can again find fairy-tale characters lurking by the stream.

In addition to Baba Yaga, Koschey the Immortal lives in the forest in a gloomy castle. Koschey is not as hospitable as Yaga, so you won’t be able to go inside, but you can see the decoration of the home. The main thing is not to be scared when you notice the owner hiding in the darkness of the room.

Almost opposite the Koshcheevsky castle there is a romantic swing. They are very large and large-scale, you can even fit three of them and fly above the ground.

You can fit in, but it's not worth it. The creators of the park warn: “Romantic swings are intended for a pleasant pastime of two positive-minded people, the “third” is superfluous, so it is the main “pushing force” when swinging the swing. Without the help of a “third,” two romantically minded people will not be able to fully enjoy the swing.”

After enjoying the swing, we go down the stairs next to it to the magic well to make a wish. The instructions are also on the sign: “You can ask the Well Waterman to grant a wish by making special offerings in the form of coins or pebbles. The person asking in a whisper or silently makes a wish, then throws a coin or stone into the well. You need to do this with good thoughts and an open soul, and then your wish will definitely come true!”

You need to agree in advance and pay 1.5 thousand rubles for renting a barbecue area; the price includes a barbecue and firewood. Plus, no one canceled the entrance fee to the park at the checkout.

Where to go if it’s your first time in the city

At the beginning of the 17th century, the lands of the Baikal region were first visited by Cossacks, and in 1661 a fort appeared on the banks of the Angara - the “priest” of modern Irkutsk. Unfortunately, no monuments have survived to this day. But the Spasskaya Church near the Regional Administration building is a direct successor to the first, then still wooden church of the city. The modern building is snow-white stone, made in the Siberian Baroque style. By the way, this is the oldest church in Eastern Siberia and the Far East.

Next to the temple there is a monument to Peter and Fevronia of Murom. On weekends, the pedestal is strewn with bouquets - the newlyweds ask for blessings from the heavenly patrons of family, love and fidelity.

Other must-see attractions are also concentrated here within a radius of 500 m. Among them is the Cathedral of the Epiphany built in 1746 (Nizhnyaya embankment, 2). The snow-white church with bright platbands was once used as a confectionery shop and dormitory. And in 1994 it was finally returned to the believers. This is the second oldest stone building in Irkutsk (after the Spasskaya Church). Among the shrines is a miraculous copy of the icon of the Kazan Mother of God.

The Cathedral of the Epiphany overlooks the Lower Embankment. At its intersection with the street. Sukhbaatar stands a 6-meter high monument to the founders of the city, or rather “Yakov Pokhabov and his comrades” (that’s what is written on the pedestal). An impressive triumphal arch rises 300 meters from it. This is the Moscow Gate. It's hard to believe, but this 19-meter structure was restored just a few years ago.

Irkutsk performances for children

Puppet shows, theatrical fairy tales, spectacular circus performances - all this is available in the range of entertainment in Irkutsk.

Irkutsk Circus

  • Address: Proletarskaya st., 13.

Irkutsk is a city with long-standing circus traditions; the history of this art form here goes back as far as 1795, when performers of Italian origin began to give performances. In the 19th century, several eminent foreign circus performers performed in the Irkutsk lands, and in 1908 the tent circus troupe appeared.

It is noteworthy that at the moment the city does not have its own troupe, but there is a permanent building for circus performances, built in 1964 in the style of socialist minimalism. This is the largest circus in Siberia and the Far East. A year later, the arena opened its doors and since then has been giving unforgettable emotions from meeting clowns, acrobats, trained animals, magic and illusion.

Domestic and foreign circus groups perform at the Irkutsk arena. The programs are always different and every time you can see something new, it’s not for nothing that the circus has become one of the favorite entertainments of the townspeople.

Puppet theater "Stork"

  • Address: Baikalskaya st., 32.

The State Puppet Theater in the city of Irkutsk has been operating under the name “Aistenok” since 1986 and gives performances in the building of the “Mir” cinema. Its historical predecessor is the East Siberian Puppet and Marionette Theater, founded in 1935.

In the 21st century, the theater successfully tours in Russia and abroad, the troupe gave performances in Moscow and, for example, in Germany. The theater's repertoire includes performances for children and adults.

The basis of the children's block is fairy tales - folk and original, Russian and foreign. There are performances for children and younger schoolchildren (from 6 years old), educational educational performances and modern children's plays.

Youth Theater named after. Vampilova

  • Address: st. Lenina, 23.

One of the oldest children's theaters in Russia dates back to 1928. Since 1987, it has been named after the remarkable playwright, a native of Irkutsk, A.V. Vampilov; there is a memorial plaque to the writer on the facade of the theater. The directors and actors of the theater emphasize that the Youth Theater has always strived to be interesting to children, teenagers and adults.

The theater's repertoire policy is based on this principle. The theater’s playbill includes many children’s performances for different ages: “The Hedgehog and the Little Bear” for children from 3 years old, “The Tale of the Goldfish” for categories 6+, “Deniska’s Stories” for children from 8 years old and other productions.

Theater named after N.M. Zagursky

  • Address: st. Sedova, 29.

The Irkutsk Regional Musical Theater was named in honor of the People's Artist of the RSFSR, a native of Irkutsk, Nikolai Zagursky. It is known as the venue for the “Stars on Baikal” and “Jazz on Baikal” festivals.

In the modern repertoire of the theater, which dates back to 1945, attention is also paid to the audience of the younger generation. For them, musical fairy tales are staged on stage, for example, “The Princess and the Pea”, Puss in Boots and others.
