When the municipal formation of the Orekhovo-Zuevo urban district was created in 2005, it included one settlement - the city of Orekhovo-Zuevo[4].
On January 1, 2021[5], 3 abolished rural settlements (Vereiskoye, Demikhovskoye, Malodubenskoye) were included in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo urban district from the liquidated Orekhovo-Zuyevo municipal district.
On January 10, 2021, a new urban district of Likino-Dulyovo was formed by merging the remaining settlements of the liquidated Orekhovo-Zuevsky municipal district (the urban settlements of Drezna, Kurovskoye, Likino-Dulyovo and the rural settlements of Belavinskoye, Gorskoye, Davydovskoye, Dorokhovskoye, Ilyinskoye, Novinskoye, Sobolevskoye)[ 6].
By the Law of the Moscow Region of March 20, 2021, the urban districts of Orekhovo-Zuevo and Likino-Dulyovo, from April 1, 2021, were united into a single municipal formation, the Orekhovo-Zuevo urban district[7].
Until June 2021, its territory consisted of 2 administrative-territorial units - the cities of regional subordination Orekhovo-Zuevo and Likino-Dulyovo with administrative territory. By the Law of the Moscow Region of June 3, 2021, the city of Likino-Dulyovo was transferred to the administrative subordination of Orekhov-Zuev from June 16, 2021: thus, the city of regional subordination of Likino-Dulyovo with its administrative territory was abolished[8].
Orekhovo-Zuevsky district is located in the east of the Moscow region, 80-90 kilometers from Moscow in the interfluve of the Moscow and Klyazma . The district borders the Petushinsky district of the Vladimir region, Pavlovo-Posadsky, Egoryevsky, Voskresensky, Ramensky and Shatursky districts. The district includes 3 cities: Likino-Dulevo, Drezna and Kurovskoye and 10 rural settlements. The administrative center of the district is the city of Orekhovo-Zuevo .
The area is one of the largest in the Moscow region. Its territory is 177893 hectares. The population of the district as of January 1, 2010 was 114.3 thousand people.
The history of the Orekhovo-Zuevsky municipal district goes back centuries. In VII-VIII AD. people from the ancient Merya tribe lived on its territory. Later, the Ilmen Slavs came from the north, and the Vyatichi and Krivichi came from the west. The memory of that “gray-haired” time is silently preserved by the Slavic mounds of the 10th-13th centuries, which have survived to this day in the basin of the Guslitsa and Nerskaya rivers. In the 17th century, the territory of the southwestern part of the region - Guslitsa - was actively populated by Old Believers-boyars, archers, and fugitive peasants. The center of Guslitsy becomes Ilyinsky Pogost, named after the Church of Elijah the Prophet of the early 17th century.
The geographical location of the region and its historical past largely determined the main trends of its development. The availability of labor, proximity to Moscow, cheap fuel (peat, firewood) contributed to the rapid development of large industrial enterprises, primarily textile ones, as well as the world-famous Dulevo (formerly Kuznetsovsky) porcelain factory (built in 1832 near the village of Dulevo) . In 1845, the first textile manufactory arose in the village of Kurovskaya (now Kurovskoye), and in 1852 two paper spinning factories were created there. In 1869, in the city of Likino-Dulevo, the enterprise of V.S. Smirnov expanded, which later transformed into the Likino Spinning and Weaving Factory. In 1899, next to the Drezna railway station, the Ziminskaya factory (manufacturer N.N. Zimin) opened its workshops, which laid the foundation for a workers’ village, and later a city.
After the October Revolution of 1917, the industrialization of the country, the production base of enterprises was expanded and reconstructed, new production facilities were created, such as the Dulevo paint plant, the Likinsky wood refining plant (later LiAZ), and the Demikhovsky machine-building plant. It was from these enterprises that the glory of the Orekhovo-Zuevsky municipal district as the largest industrial center of the Moscow region.
By decree of the Provisional Government in September 1917, the city of Orekhovo-Zuyevo by merging the village of Zuevo, Bogorodsky district, Moscow province, the village of Orekhovo and the town of Nikolskoye, Pokrovsky district, Vladimir province. The Orekhovo-Zuevo Council repeatedly petitioned the provincial Council to allocate the city of Orekhovo-Zuyevo with its adjacent settlements to the district, but the internal and external problems of the country delayed the solution of this issue. And only on January 5, 1921, by resolution of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, the Orekhovo-Zuevsky district was formed, which included 15 volosts. The district occupied 1/14 of the territory of the Moscow province and was the third largest in population. According to the 1923 census, 163,495 people lived here at that time, mostly peasant farmers, workers and office workers.
In 1929, a new administrative-territorial reform began. Governorates were reorganized into regions, counties into districts, and volosts were abolished completely. By a resolution of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of July 12, 1929, the Orekhovo-Zuevsky district was transformed into the Orekhovo-Zuevsky district of the Moscow region, and the volosts into village councils.
Today, the Orekhovo-Zuevsky district can be considered unique in terms of the concentration of leading enterprises in their industry. Well-known enterprises are located here: Likinsky Bus LLC, Dulevsky Porcelain PC, Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant OJSC, etc.
through the Orekhovo-Zuevsky district ; on its territory there are two large railway junctions with the stations “Orekhovo” and “Kurovskaya”.
Klyazma , as well as the Nerskaya , Dubenka , Guslitsa flow through the territory of the region .
Today, in the Orekhovo-Zuevsky district, a lot of work is being done to preserve and continue the best traditions of our people, their culture, art, and spiritual heritage. Churches and temples are being restored, the oldest of which are the Church of the Nativity of Christ and the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary , built in the 18th century and are cultural and architectural monuments of federal significance. In total, there are 27 Orthodox churches and the Guslitsky Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery .
