Holidays in Yalta by the sea - 2021: 10 tips from a local

Sights and entertainment in Yalta, which a vacationer should pay attention to? What to see and visit, what to do in your spare time when a beach holiday gets a little boring? The iconic and simply interesting places of Yalta and its surroundings are in the review by Ashore.ru.
Obviously, a holidaymaker is usually not limited to just one beach holiday. Whether in Crimea, Krasnodar Territory, Turkey or Europe, the soul asks for something that can give new and unusual sensations. Sea, sun, water attractions - it's wonderful! But on the 3-4th day the monotonous variety begins to get boring. And the jaded gaze inevitably begins to look for entertainment that is not so obvious.

Fortunately, there are no problems with having fun and memorable leisure time on the South Coast. On the contrary, there is a different kind of inconvenience: how to see all the sights during a standard two-week vacation.

Weather: air and water temperature

In November, golden autumn comes to the peninsula: the trees light up in shades of yellow, orange and red, the sky takes on depth, and the sunsets become fabulous. And although the weather at this time is deceptive, unlike central Russia, rainy days rarely visit the peninsula.

The daytime air temperature in November stays at +12-15 °C, at night it drops to +5-7 °C (on the South Coast these figures are 2-4 degrees higher). Sometimes it rains for a long time, the sky is clouded with gray clouds, and it seems that winter is coming. But after a day or two, the darkness dissipates, the sun begins to shine with all its might, warming the air to +20, and if there is no piercing wind, you can safely walk in a thin windbreaker.

The water in the Black Sea, although it cools slowly, is not quite comfortable in November: on the southern coast the sea temperature reaches +15 °C, on the western coast +12 °C, and on the eastern coast it approaches December levels (+9-10 °C ). At the end of the month, winds intensify (their gusts reach 27 m/s), which disperse the waves, bringing multi-day storms to the coast.

Sea creatures perform real gymnastic tricks, can make the audience laugh and are ready to endlessly communicate with their little fans.

“Aquatoria” is a full-fledged entertainment complex. In addition to the dolphinarium, there is an amusement park where your children will meet the heroes of their favorite fairy tales, an aquarium with amazing fish, a restaurant and even a UFO museum.

Oceanarium

The Yalta Aquarium is very popular among tourists and local residents. His collection includes hundreds of rare marine life. Interestingly, the exhibition was initially aimed at children, so everything was organized in such a way that young visitors would find it not only interesting, but also convenient. You can always use the services of a guide. But detailed information about the “residents” of the aquarium is presented on information stands, so the exhibition is easy and pleasant to study on your own. You will enjoy watching the fascinating and leisurely life of fish.

Crocodilarium

A unique object, a must-visit with children. The crocodile farm is home to hundreds of reptiles that are incredibly fun to watch. It turns out that crocodiles are very different, and this is easy to see by studying the exhibition. In addition to toothy predators, the crocodilarium is home to lizards, snakes, turtles, crustaceans and numerous fish. Many animals are rare and are even listed in the Red Book.

Interestingly, crocodilarium appeared completely by accident. In one of the Crimean zoos in 2011, 77 small crocodiles were born. They could not comfortably accommodate such a number of rapidly growing children there, so it was decided to organize a full-fledged crocodile farm. Today we can say that the project was a great success.

Parents will not be left out either - all activities involve family participation, and if you just want to relax and be in silence, you can sit in a restaurant or take a walk around the territory. Animators will look after the children.

Butterfly garden

Do you want to know how and where butterflies come from? This means you need to go to the upper station of the small cable car, to a small colorful house where these bright insects live. Here they will not only tell you, but also show you all the stages of their development. You can observe the life of hundreds of adult specimens and a wide variety of caterpillars, and also see a real miracle of nature - pupae, inside which the rebirth of an insect takes place.

Aquarium "Underwater Grotto"

The world of bright exotic fish will captivate you at first sight. The aquarium is a kind of exhibition of marine life. However, it is designed so interestingly that neither adults nor children want to leave it. Having entered the mouth of a shark (what else could the entrance to the underwater world look like?), you find yourself in the coolness of a real grotto with stone walls, twilight and amazingly clean air. After the hot summer sun - just paradise.

Districts of Yalta

Note: there is Yalta (city), and there is Big Yalta - this is the territory from Foros to Krasnokamenka, which includes Yalta-city.

I'll tell you about the first one. Yalta is a small city, without traffic jams you can drive through it in 30 minutes. When choosing where to live, look at the distance from the sea and the topography. There are a lot of climbs in the city, and a short distance from home to the beach does not guarantee an easy path, especially if you are with children and strollers.

Many tourist sources write that there is an old Yalta with rickety houses and a new one with modern buildings. In fact, everything here is mixed: dilapidated buildings and new high-rise buildings, there are also residential areas.

If you are traveling on your own and planning to rent an apartment, here are my 2 tips:

  • Look for housing on Sutochno.ru (here Yalta residents rent out their rooms, apartments, studios)
  • Take a closer look at the following areas:

— Gogol Street (from Pionersky Park to the embankment). Quiet, flat area, near Pushkinskaya Alley.

— Kirova Street (from the embankment to the Institute of Grapes and Wine). 10-15 minutes to the sea, tiny Yalta courtyards, stone houses of the 19th century.

— Drazhinsky Street (above Massandra Beach). 5-10 minutes to the sea, a large selection of housing: from granny's rooms to luxury hotels. But it’s very narrow here, the houses are right next to each other.

— Kyiv and Moskovskaya streets (run from the bus station to the embankment). Quiet flat areas 10-15 minutes from the center, there are markets.

— Massandra and Livadia. Urban-type settlements, but in reality these are already districts of Yalta. Can be reached in 20 minutes from the center. I love them for the tranquility and lack of crowds during the season. Of the minuses: it’s a 20-30 minute walk to the sea (and it’s also uphill to get back), there are few cafes and shops. But there are palaces and forest paths!

— Otradnoe. If the prices for a holiday in Yalta by the sea are steep, you can stay in this beach town, it’s only 5 minutes from the city by car.

Fishing in the sea

Flybro (Art-Line LLC) also provides services for organizing one of the most popular types of recreation in Crimea - exciting and exciting sea fishing. Fishermen off the coast of Yalta can expect a good catch: haddock, horse mackerel, katran, fox fish, stingray.

Cost: 1500 rub. – for 180 minutes for 1 person, 12,000 rubles. – in 180 min. for 10 people.

Boat trips, fishing and picnics on the open sea on the Simeiz boat are organized by Sky Travel LLC . Vacationers have a cabin, fishing gear, barbecue, stove, and dishes at their disposal. There is a flexible system of discounts.

Address: Yalta, st. Lenina, 1 – Embankment.

“Delicious” gifts of November Crimea

Tourists who choose the November peninsula as a holiday destination will be able to enjoy the gifts of southern autumn. At exactly this time, fruits and vegetables are filled to capacity with the sun, and therefore appetizing on the outside and delicious on the inside.

The shelves of Crimean markets are filled with persimmons, pomegranates, figs and quinces, grapes and jujubes, pears and apples. Neighboring them are glossy plump eggplants, fleshy bell peppers and American potatoes. When boiled, it goes well with lightly salted horse mackerel from the morning catch.

If fruits and vegetables do not surprise you, go to the forest to pick mushrooms and berries. In the Old Crimea, near Belogorsk, Simferopol, Alushta or on the Ai-Petrinskaya Yaila, under every tree and stump there are scatterings of saffron milk caps, milk mushrooms, and single-barrel mushrooms. Along the way, pick up Crimean rose hips, the aromatic decoction of which will brighten up the chilly winter.

Interesting museums for children

Museum of Sculpture "Glade of Fairy Tales"

A unique place where characters from the most famous and beloved children's fairy tales live. There are several hundred of them here, and each one deserves close attention. The figures of heroes from fairy tales and literary works are made by the best sculptors. The materials used for them were traditional wood, concrete, stone, and more modern metal and marble chips.

The park has a long history. It could have been almost a hundred years old if not for the fire that destroyed almost the entire exhibition. Now the year of birth of the “Glade of Fairy Tales” is 1970, when the first revived sculpture took its place in the open-air museum.

Yuri Gagarin Museum of Cosmonautics

The first cosmonaut on the planet really loved visiting the Artek children's camp, so it was on its territory that it was decided to organize a museum dedicated to the conquest of space. Today it has turned into a powerful attraction for children and adults. And it’s not surprising, because where else can you not only see, but also touch, and even try on real space suits? One of them, by the way, belonged directly to Gagarin, another to Alexei Leonov. Have you ever seen a real lunar rover? Exactly the same as the one that explored the expanses of our satellite?

One of the halls of the museum replicates Yuri Gagarin’s office; it contains the cosmonaut’s iconic and personal belongings. There is an interesting exhibition from which you will learn everything about the history of astronautics and its current stage of development. Employees say that after visiting their museum, children again dream of conquering outer space, as their parents once did.

This place is a must visit for boys of all ages and their dads.

The museum displays a collection of 25 rare and unique cars. Here you can see luxury sports cars, the very sight of which makes your heart beat faster. But the real pearls of the exhibition are the one-piece models created by the hands of craftsmen from the ROTOROAD CUSTOM workshop.

All cars are running, some regularly participate in numerous exhibitions and even races.

You can't go past the Motion Game pavilion. Car and flight simulators, also developed by the center’s specialists, are collected here. You will feel like real racers and pilots, pilots of cars and airplanes.

Cable cars

Cable car "Yalta-Gorka"

Or the Small Ropeway. It's really small, but that doesn't make it uninteresting. On the contrary, children really love trips on it. The adventure begins with landing. The funiculars do not stop; you have to board them while they are moving. And even though their movement is very slow, little travelers really like this attraction.

At the top station there is an observation deck with stunning views. Here you can also have a snack in the cafe.

Nutrition

As at any other resort, food prices are, of course, high. But you can find inexpensive catering establishments - it is better if these places are suggested to you by those tourists who have already vacationed in these places and got acquainted with canteens, snack bars and cafes. On average, you will pay 200-300 rubles for a soup, and about 500 rubles for a three-course course. Vegetables and fruits become cheaper in November, which is simply wonderful. You can not only save on food and improve your health, but also lose extra pounds. You can cook your own meals by buying food from local markets and inexpensive supermarkets. In establishments such as mini-hotels and guest houses, there are separate kitchens with a stove, microwave, household appliances, and dishes. Cooking your own meals not only saves a significant amount of your budget. You can prepare your favorite dishes yourself, including for children if they are traveling with you. In addition, this is a great opportunity to prepare meals for people who are on a diet due to illness or simply want to lose weight.

Holidays in sunny Yalta can be varied, eventful and bright. In order for your leisure time to be truly interesting and fruitful, you need to plan it in advance.

How to get to Yalta? Ticket prices

In Yalta there is neither an airport nor a train station nearby. And this is more of a plus than a minus: the city is cleaner and more secluded, and getting to major transport hubs is not a problem.

You can get to Yalta like this:

  • By plane - fast, comfortable, but not super cheap.

Search for flights on Aviasales or Skyscanner.

In the 2021 season, direct flights fly from 50 cities in Russia. Thus, a plane ticket from Moscow costs from 10,000 rubles per person round trip, from St. Petersburg - from 15,000 rubles.

Passengers arrive at the only “air gate of Crimea” – Simferopol Airport. From there you can get to Yalta by bus (from 200 rubles, 2 hours travel time), trolleybus (165 rubles, 3 hours travel time) or taxi (from 1500 rubles).

  • By bus - long and cheap.

See available flights on Tutu. There are about 20 routes from Russian cities to Yalta. For example, a 30-hour bus adventure from Moscow costs from 3,000 rubles one way.

  • Traveling by train is a chore.

There is no railway connection between the peninsula and the mainland. But there is a “Unified” ticket, which takes you by train to Anapa or Krasnodar, and then by bus to Yalta or other Crimean resorts. Both tickets are purchased together. For example, the Kazan-Anapa train costs from 3,000 rubles one way + an additional payment for a bus to Yalta of 700 rubles.

  • By car - for lovers.

On May 16, 2018, the Crimean Bridge opened, connecting the peninsula with the mainland. But for now, motorists are not happy: 85 km from the crossing, traffic jams begin. From the bridge to Yalta, drive 300 km, which is a 6-hour drive (through Sudak along a mountain serpentine road). I advise you to lengthen the road by 1 hour and drive through Simferopol if you get motion sickness on sharp turns.

As for me, the most comfortable and time-efficient way to get to Yalta is by plane + taxi (especially if there are 3-4 people in the company).
