Reviews from tourists

  • Kirill, Moscow

Having visited St. Petersburg, I thought that this city would not surprise me with anything, but I was very mistaken. Having already looked through the guidebook, I was inspired and came here. The city has very beautiful architecture, but I especially want to highlight the Rumyantsev-Paskovich Palace. Its interiors and exhibits, architecture and adjacent park area are all very impressive in their scope and majesty.

  • Ekaterina, Minsk

I visited the city during a work trip for 1 day, overall I liked everything. Due to the fact that there was little time, I did not have time to see all the sights, but I really liked the fountains. I will definitely come back here to look at them in the evening.

  • Elena, Mogilev

I came here with my husband and small child.
My husband and I were delighted with the architecture and museums, but the child, understandably, did not appreciate it. But after visiting the amusement park and even more so the circus, he was satisfied, since the performance in the circus was truly exciting. Gomel is rich in sights and interesting places, most of which can be explored in 1 day.

True, if you want to thoroughly explore this city, you should stay here for a couple of days.

Ferris tower

According to official data, this is a former chimney of a sugar factory built in the 19th century on the territory of the estate of I.F. Paskevich. Before him, the estate was owned by P.A. Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky, who planned to build a noble school here. But when the estate passed to the next owner, the school building was rebuilt into a sugar factory and this 40-meter pipe was erected. During the fire, the building burned down, and the chimney was converted into an observation tower.

This version leaves many questions: why was the pipe built 40 meters high? Why is it sticking straight out of the ground? Why is the pipe lined with colored brickwork? Why are there windows in it? It can be assumed that the upper observation deck was completed later, but it is noticeable that the windows in it were made at the time the pipe was erected, and not cut later. In addition, dungeons were found under the hill on which this mysterious tower rises.

Yurovichi Monastery

Yurovichi Holy Nativity Monastery is the only architectural monument in the Vilna Baroque in the Gomel region . At the beginning of the 18th century, it was founded by the Jesuits to preserve a relic that was revered by both Orthodox and Catholics - the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Yurovich-Merciful . In 1855, the shrine was taken away, and today a list of it is kept here. The original can be seen in the Krakow Church of St. Barbara. On the territory of the monastery there is the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary , to which in 1867 Emperor Alexander II presented the image of the holy noble prince Alexander Nevsky .

Every year, on the Feast of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a solemn liturgy, prayer service and procession from Mozyr to Yurovichi are held in honor of the Yurovichi Icon of the Mother of God

There are inexpensive catering establishments in the city.

A few of the most common:

  • Cafe Old Time – a thematic style with many antique household items, Soviet newspapers, signs, posters with quotes from old films. Princess Irina Ivanovna Paskevich, the last owner of the palace, is also buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral. The solemn ceremony of laying the first stone was conducted by Archpriest John Grigorovich, and the cathedral itself was built for another 15 years. After the revolution, the cathedral was converted into a historical museum with a department of atheism. After the war there was a planetarium there. Memorial in the village of Krasny Bereg

The only memorial in the world dedicated to child victims of the Great Patriotic War is located in the village of Krasny Bereg. They are especially picturesque during cranberry season. But the most popular excursions in the park are a boat trip around Pripyat: both on a motor ship and on small motor boats. And also a real Belarusian safari, during which you can see bison, deer, roe deer and wild boars.
