Where to go from Moscow for a weekend by car?

From Moscow you can go to Yaroslavl!

We have already been to St. Petersburg once, twice, three times. And we went to Suzdal. There was even MOSCOW-SUZDAL ON BIKES. Tula, Tver.. For the second time, I don’t really like visiting the same places (except for some - for example, St. Petersburg), so this weekend we headed towards the ancient city of the “Golden Ring” - Yaroslavl!

What to see in winter in Yaroslavl?)

Before our trip, naturally, I asked Google this question more than once and it gave many answers, where for the most part (and this is 90 percent), temples prevailed!

Temples are good, but our family is not to our liking. We are ready to visit one or two of the most important, famous, and marked MUST SEE, but more than two is considered a religious overdose for us. I wanted something lighter, more positive and uplifting.

BUT nevertheless, we stopped at one temple on the road Moscow - Yaroslavl. This is a temple that, like, no one misses.

And so: MOSCOW - YAROSLAVL, what to see?

ATTRACTION NUMBER 1:

“The miraculous Cross of the Lord in the village of Godenovo, Yaroslavl region.”

The Goden Cross is one of the most famous miraculous crosses. It is located in the Temple of St. John Chrysostom in the village of Godenovo, not far from the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky (by the way, a very nice little town! If I had known in advance, I would have included it in my visit plan and would have also compiled a small sightseeing route for it).

Also located not in Yaroslavl itself, but at the entrance to it:

"Nekrasov's estate in Karabikha"

The museum-reserve is located on the territory of the ancient Russian estate Karabikha (15 km from the center of Yaroslavl), the complex of which includes residential and outbuildings, regular and landscape parks. The first owners of the estate were the Golitsyn princes. In the early 1860s, Nikolai Alekseevich Nekrasov bought the estate. He spent ten summer seasons here (1861-1875), wrote the poems “Russian Women”, “Contemporaries”, the poems “Orina, Mother of a Soldier”, “Kallistrat” and others, worked on “Who Lives Well in Rus'”.

A very interesting atmospheric cozy place. Beautiful antique interiors, glossy herringbone parquet and huge windows, due to which the rooms are completely filled with natural light during the day. Unfortunately, only part of this complex is operational in winter, but in winter there are significantly fewer people)

ATTRACTION NUMBER 4

"Yaroslavl KREMLIN"

The chopped city or Yaroslavl Kremlin is the most ancient historical place of the city. From here, on the very outskirts of the Yaroslavl Strelka, the city of Yaroslavl once began, which today is one of the largest cities in the Central Federal District of Russia. It was here, on the narrowed cape of land between the Volga and Kotorosl rivers, that at the end of the 10th and beginning of the 11th centuries, by order of Yaroslav the Wise, they began to build the first Orthodox Volga settlement in Rus'.

The construction of the Yaroslavl Kremlin from chopped trees had the shape of a triangle in plan, the acute angle of which was formed by the Volga and the Kotorosl flowing into it, whose banks served as reliable protection for the new city. The third side was limited by the deep Medveditsky ravine and the Medveditsa river flowing along its bottom. Today, the territory of the former Rubleny town is delineated by the Volzhskaya and Kotoroslnaya embankments and the line connecting the churches of Nikolai Rubleny and Ilinsko-Tikhonovskaya - i.e. this is the very tip of the Yaroslavl Strelka to its current park territory.

ATTRACTION NUMBER 5

"Flea market in Yaroslavl"

Every time I visit any city, I always set aside time to visit a flea market, if there is one in the new place. I don’t buy any hackneyed garbage souvenirs like magnets, figurines, keychains and other horrors, but I always want to bring something back from a trip... and I want it to be SOMETHING special/unique/not like everyone else - and for such This item definitely belongs at the flea market!

I searched the Internet for a long time for information about the presence of a flea market in Yaroslavl, and then tried to find at least some messages about whether it was open in winter (because winter is often a sleepy period for this kind of event).. I couldn’t find any information about winter, so I had to check everything for myself and now (at the time of winter time 2019) I can say:

THE FEA MARKET IN YAROSLAVL IS OPEN IN WINTER!

Opening hours: from 9 to 15

Coordinates:

Kirpichnaya st., Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl region, 150001

I would like to note that the market is very unique, and in order to find really worthwhile things in the heaps of garbage, you need to try really hard.

My find - a sugar bowl!

pros

  • In winter it is impossible to travel, as in summer, with tents in cars. For a comfortable stay you need a warm hotel. Vologda has a sufficient number (more than 40) of guest houses and hotels from budget to expensive options. All are located close to the center, because Vologda is a small capital, with about 300 thousand inhabitants. And you can travel the entire city from beginning to end simply by bus.
  • Taxis are especially important in winter. Tourists in Vologda don’t have to bother too much with buses; taxi prices in the city are more than reasonable. But private operators at the station often deceive tourists and inflate the price for the trip, so it is better to call a taxi through an operator.
  • In winter, the Vologda River turns into one continuous ski track, which will especially appeal to sports enthusiasts. You can also ride around on cheesecakes, which are immediately available for rent. And on New Year's holidays, Father Frost invites children to ride on a sleigh and on a snowmobile. Locals will gladly ride horses, ponies, donkeys and even camels for a small fee.
  • In winter, the river attracts not only lovers of winter fun, but also connoisseurs of winter fishing. If you have the desire and your own fishing rod, you can drill a hole there and go fishing for free. You can ask local fishermen for an ice screw.
  • In winter, the city is decorated with New Year's illumination. And the ancient houses, mansions, temples along the central streets amaze with their mystery and beauty. In the evening the entire city center is in bright lights. According to tradition, on New Year's holidays there are daytime festivities on the two main squares of the city, mummers light a fire in the Kremlin garden and treat everyone to free mulled wine.
  • Vologda museums and galleries will help guests of the city to warm up and have an informative time. Of these, we can highlight the Lace Museum - this is a whole universe woven by the hands of lacemakers. Also in Vologda, most of the existing religious buildings are accessible for visiting in winter. In total there are 63 churches and 12 monasteries in the city.

Features of a winter visit

Yaroslavl is located near Moscow and within easy reach

from many cities in the center of Russia, since it is a major transport hub connecting various directions.
The area of the city is just over 200 sq. km., but its historical part, attractive to tourists, is relatively small, about 4-5 sq. km
. This allows for short, but content-filled, educational walks.

Walking through winter Yaroslavl

The weather characteristics of the winter period are the same as in Moscow and other cities in central Russia. These are snowfalls, frosts with periods of thaw, winds, blizzards, etc. Although the weather has become quite unpredictable lately, you need to count on a traditional Russian winter

with a temperate continental climate. Therefore, when planning to spend a vacation in this ancient Russian city, you need to take with you a supply of warm clothes, shoes, etc.

As for the main pastime that travelers can count on at this time of year in this city, it is, first of all, a calm and leisurely visit to temples and museums

, short
walks
along the central streets, which have preserved the flavor of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Winter Yaroslavl is a city of relaxation
and immersion in deep history, contact with the distant past and comprehension of the bustling present.

The romantic charm of winter Yaroslavl

If you are tired of the office bustle, of solving constantly arising problems, then a short vacation (for 2-3 or 3-4 days) in winter Yaroslavl is what you need.

It’s very good to come to Yaroslavl for a romantic retreat

. At this time of year, the tourist flow noticeably decreases, and the city is not as bustling as in summer. And there are more than enough romantics in such a small and ancient city.

Evening Andropov Street

Youth groups also like to come here, finding both what to see and where to sit. And even they, with a certain youthful maximalism and skepticism, when examining temple and museum objects, find a lot of interesting and impressive information. In any case, there can be no disappointments in winter Yaroslavl.

The main thing is to choose in advance where to stay

– hotel, guest house or other option. Preferably, closer to the center, because the city is still provincial and no one has canceled the problems with transport, especially in winter, so it is better not to depend on it.

It would be good to decide in advance about catering points

by identifying them on the map and reading reviews about them. Because looking for a cafe in an unfamiliar city, especially in cold winter, is not a very easy task.

In Demidovsky Park

And so we smoothly moved on to the third mandatory point in preparing for the trip - having a city map

indicating the main attractions. In any form. Today, in the era of high technology, this is not a problem. Everyone has modern phones, tablets, etc., but if it’s not very convenient to use them in cold weather, you can simply print this map in advance.

And, of course, you need to draw up a rough action plan

– where to go for a walk and what to see, with clarification
hours
of the selected objects. This will not require any special organizational skills, but will help you spend your holidays more fruitfully and without any hassles.

What to see in 2 days in autumn: the best walking routes

Walking in autumn will help you see the splendor of colors and beauty of the city. Start your route from Epiphany Square and explore the monuments and historical buildings preserved here.

Then we go:

  • to the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery on Epiphany Square, 25 (prices from 50 rubles);
  • to the Church of Elijah the Prophet (Sovetskaya Square, 7);
  • to the Yaroslavl Strelka (Kotoroslnaya embankment)

Bell music concerts are often held on the embankment.

We go to the Metropolitan Chambers Museum (nearby you will see the ruins of the Volga Tower). Address: Volzhskaya Embankment, 1.

Let's complete our acquaintance with the historical center with a visit to the Church of St. Nicholas the Wet (XVII century) on Tchaikovsky Street, 1.

This autumn walk route will allow you to enjoy the scenery and go indoors from time to time to avoid freezing.

On the second day, go to another part of the city and explore the Tolga Monastery (Tolga village), and check out the zoo on Shevelyukha. This option is suitable for the beginning of autumn, when excursion boats are still operating.

Reviews from tourists

Reviews from tourists who visited Yaroslavl in December suggest that there is no reason to regret the trip. Travelers were pleased with the hospitality of the local residents and the beauty of the city. Some tourists especially enjoyed visiting Yaroslavl on the eve of the New Year holidays.

They claim that the city is amazingly beautiful at this time. Decorated streets create a New Year's mood, and new experiences complete the picture. Tourists were pleased with the affordable prices for bus tours. They liked the excursion service, and they were also satisfied with the hotel rooms in which they lived.

The trip was especially enjoyable for parents with middle-aged and older children. They say that this is a great opportunity to broaden a child’s horizons and expand his school knowledge. Tourists also noted that it is worth taking care of booking rooms if the trip is planned at the end of December.

Minuses

  • In winter there are short daylight hours. It gets dark in the city by the beginning of four, and the sun doesn’t even rise until the middle of the horizon. You can walk around the illuminated city center, but it’s better to walk around the districts during the day, while it’s still light.
  • Vologda may be a northern city, but depending on the weather in winter, depending on your luck. And a tourist, instead of snow with trees and buildings dusted with it, can get stuck in a gray snowy mess. It is better for a tourist to take care of good waterproof shoes in advance. Above-zero temperatures in winter are not uncommon in the city.
  • Some attractions are closed. For example, in winter in Vologda a tourist will not be able to visit the St. Sophia Cathedral and climb its bell tower, from where the entire city is visible. This magnificence only works in summer. And for obvious reasons, there are no boat excursions along the river with amazing Vologda landscapes.
  • Although Vologda is famous for its carved palisade, you still need to look for it. And in winter, when it quickly gets dark and everything is covered with snow, it is difficult to find such a landmark. In Vologda, front gardens are gradually becoming a thing of the past, and they are being replaced by modern buildings. Many Vologda ancient wooden buildings and architectural monuments are in deplorable condition and require restoration.
  • The cost of food in Vologda is acceptable, but the high price of gasoline and aggressive driving can confuse tourists. Roads in the suburbs are rough and snowy, increasing the risk of an accident.

What to see in 2 days in winter: the best routes

Walking in winter is often complicated by weather conditions. Therefore, it is preferable to choose a route that involves getting to know the history of the city indoors.

Let's start the route from Sovetskaya Square. On New Year's Eve, a Christmas tree is installed here and the skating rink is filled. Immediately see the temple of Elijah the Prophet.

Along Sovetskaya Street we go to Red Square. An interesting object is a house with an arch (house 21). Continue along this street and you will come to a remarkable distillery building. This option is the best if the weather is favorable without frost or precipitation.

Interesting! Latest news on the situation in Georgia

The second option for a walk route in winter: we go from the Church of Elijah the Prophet to the Boulevard of Peace. The road runs through the Demidovsky Garden and leads to the place from which the history of the city is believed to have begun - the Yaroslavl Kremlin. Once on the territory of the Chopped City, get acquainted with:

  • Museum of Ancient Russian Art;
  • Church of St. Nicholas Rubleny;
  • Elias-Tikhonovsky Church.

In the same area you will see the Foundation Stone of the city. From here you go to Strelka Park. In summer it is very beautiful here, and in winter there are slides and snow towns.

Children will also enjoy visiting the Yaroslavl Theater for Young Spectators (next to the circus) or the Teplo art club.

Excursions

You can get acquainted with the city and its attractions accompanied by a guide. Thus, you will be able to expand your knowledge, learn about local traditions and legends, and also see the most interesting places. Guests are offered many excursion programs.

  • 20 best excursions in Yaroslavl

Let's describe the most popular routes:

  • Review group. Introduces the history of the city and the most significant sights. Usually takes place by bus. Tourists are given the opportunity to go out to interesting places, take photographs, and purchase souvenirs.
  • Walk through the historical center. The route runs through the historical center of the city, where the main architectural monuments are concentrated.

Where to go with a child

If you come to Kaliningrad in winter with children, then you can have fun not only at the skating rinks. For example, we recommend that you check out your local zoo

. Although the word “look” is not entirely appropriate here, because it is better to plan a trip to the zoo for the whole day. You will also enjoy watching the animals in comfortable spacious enclosures and will also enjoy walking along the numerous bridges and staircases.

Kaliningrad Zoo during the New Year holidays
An original attraction operates in the Yunost park

.
It represents a house in which everything is upside down. The attraction is called “ House Upside Down
”. You will literally walk on the ceiling and admire the furniture that seems to be underneath you. At some point, you may even get a little lost in space, because the surface on which you are moving is also on a slight slope. You and the children will definitely find it interesting and you will certainly take a lot of cool and original pictures.

The house is upside down
So you can and should go to Kaliningrad in winter. History, architecture, museums, entertainment. All this does not disappear anywhere with the end of summer. Moreover, many objects begin to look completely different. Be sure to come here and see for yourself.

On the Moscow-Vorkuta train to Yaroslavl

I must say that buying train tickets to Yaroslavl on Saturday is a big problem. Electric trains do not go there - as the journey is quite long - the fastest train takes about 3.5 hours. We managed to buy tickets for the Moscow-Vorkuta train, which departed at 12:30 (arriving in Yaroslavl at 17:50). Considering the short period of travel time, I bought reserved seat tickets, which I later regretted. The calculation was that there is usually a restaurant car on the train, where you can spend time without stress.

As we entered our carriage, we realized that the trip was going to be “fun”. I haven’t seen such a wrecked train and carriage for a long time: the carriages are old and shabby, I’m generally silent about the toilets. In addition, a large noisy group settled down next to us, who immediately began to drink, eat and play cards. And then they took off their shoes, wet sweaters... and the wind immediately blew us away from the side seats. We go to the dining car. After asking the conductor, we managed to find out that this train only has a “buffet car,” but there was no difference.

The buffet car was half a sleeping compartment car, half a catering room, in which you could have something to eat while standing. Like a Soviet pub. A couple of men were drinking at the Buffet, loudly discussing who was sitting where, under what article and for what period (don’t forget, the Moscow-Vorkuta train).

Approaching the serving window, like in Soviet canteens, we met a gypsy woman. Yes, yes, a real gypsy, though dressed in a modern way. She did not do fortune telling or palmistry, but sold all sorts of women's clothes, such as robes and nightgowns. Here I was able to fully experience the magic of gypsy hypnosis: she began to shower me with compliments, wishing me a long and happy life and the like. In general, I had to fork out money and buy some kind of cotton garbage from her, just so that she would fall behind. It was the only way to get rid of her.

Time flew by almost unnoticed on this fun train. It's good that at least there are no fights.

What to bring as a gift?

In Yaroslavl you can buy souvenirs that you can bring as gifts to your loved ones and friends. Tourists often buy:

Watch "Seagull". Many local stores sell them. Tourists who want to visit the plant can travel to the city of Uglich by car (110 km). Poshekhonsky cheese. This is a delicious gift that everyone will love. You can find it at the market or in grocery stores. Balm “Old Yaroslavl”

This is an alcoholic drink that is produced at a local factory. When choosing, it is important to pay attention to the label so as not to buy a fake. The drink is produced by the liquor store, which is located on Sovetskaya Street. “Yaroslavl felt boots” This is a good gift that every person will like

Valenki are produced at the Yaroslavl felted footwear factory.

Many tourists buy a set of cups with memorable places of Yaroslavl and refrigerator magnets. Sellers can recommend the most popular souvenirs that are given as gifts to loved ones.

Nutrition

We often dined at CAFÉ City . It's inexpensive and quite filling. This is a chain, their establishments are on almost every corner. Every day in the evening we ordered sushi or rolls through Yandex Food from the Yaponchik restaurant.

We spent 6,000 rubles for two.

Gasoline costs: I have a small car. In one day in Yaroslavl, approximately 300 rubles worth of gasoline was consumed.

Yaroslavl: description, location on the map

Yaroslavl is the main one among the list of cities of the Golden Ring. This is due to its more than thousand-year history, as well as constant development. Yaroslav the Wise immediately appreciated the land between the Volga and Kotorosl, which belonged to the pagans. He saw in it strategic potential, both for defense and trade.

You won’t be able to see all the sights of Yaroslavl in 2 days, even by car

However, taking it away from the pagans living in this territory was not easy. According to legend, he had to fight a brown bear. Now the figure of a bear is a symbol of the city. Currently, Yaroslavl attracts tourists with its ancient Russian history and architecture, and pilgrims with a large number of shrines and temples.

Winter tourism

In Yaroslavl in winter you will be able to see what is inaccessible to tourists in other seasons of the year: the colorful life of the Old Russian population during the cold period.

Excursion programs include:

  • history of the courier service;
  • sleigh ride traditions;
  • you can see old Russian huts smelling of bread.

Along with antiquity, the city has a well-developed modern infrastructure:

  • 20 outdoor and indoor skating rinks;
  • 32 hockey fields;
  • parks for snowboarding and skiing.

In winter, special extreme sports parks operate in the vicinity of the city, among which are:

  • “Fun” - sledding, tubing;
  • “Podolino” is a place where you can have fun on sleighs, skis, and tubes;
  • “Shaksha” will help brighten up your leisure time with skiing, snowboarding, and cheesecakes;
  • “Bend” offers skis, snowboards, and cheesecakes for rent;
  • “Nikolina Gora” is a park that provides skiing, snowboarding, and tubing services.

In the 16th century, the monastery, built of wood, suffered from a fire; later it was rebuilt from stone, following the example of some cathedrals of the Moscow Kremlin.

Here you can admire wall frescoes dating back almost a thousand years and pray at ancient icons. There is an exhibition at the monastery where visitors are introduced to ancient Russian art and ancient sculpture. You can even visit the cells where monks lived in the Middle Ages.

The Transfiguration Cathedral, which is the center of the monastery, is open to visitors only from May 1 to October 1.
