What attractions should a tourist see in Lipetsk?

The official date of the founding of Lipetsk is considered to be 1703, when on the banks of the Lipovka River, by order of the emperor, several ironworks were built, around which a settlement was formed. Production gradually expanded, the population of the village grew, and already in 1779 it received the status of a county town. At the beginning of the 19th century. It was found that the waters of mineral springs in the vicinity of abandoned metallurgical plants have healing properties. This discovery turned the city into a popular resort. Today Lipetsk is one of the largest industrial, trade, educational and cultural centers of the Black Earth Region, actively visited by Russian and foreign tourists.

Why is the city so named: Lipetsk, the capital of the Lipetsk region

In 1703, on the orders of Peter I, the construction of iron factories began on the Lipovka River (a tributary of the Voronezh River).
In 1709, the settlement at these factories was named the Lipetsk Factories settlement. In 1779 (by decree of Catherine II), the settlement was transformed into the district city of Lipetsk as part of the Tambov governorship. (Lipetsk was first mentioned in the chronicles of the 13th century, (The first mention of Lipetsk dates back to 1284, although it is said that this is the date of the destruction of the city by enemies, its foundation is not known. On the site of the destroyed city, the village of Malye Studenki Lipskie existed for a long time.) named so because of the large number of linden trees along the banks of the river.) Lipetsk. History of the city (briefly)

Lipetsk is the administrative center of the Lipetsk region, a special economic zone of industrial type and a large metallurgical center. The city was founded thanks to Peter the Great and turned into the most comfortable city in Russia in the 2005 category. Below is a brief summary of the history of the city and historical facts that contributed to the development and prosperity of Lipetsk.

Ancient settlements

The earliest local settlements include the Lipetsk settlement. During excavations in 1901, ancient household utensils were found, confirming that people appeared on the territory of Lipetsk even before the Mongol-Tatar invasion. The excavation objects can now be viewed in the regional museum of local lore. The archaeological monument is protected as a landmark of republican significance.

The village of Studenki Lipskie, from which the future Lipetsk arose and developed, began to be mentioned in chronicles from the beginning of the 17th century. The area is gradually populated by people from Ryazan land.

Foundation of the city

At the beginning of the 18th century, a rich deposit of iron ore was found on the territory of the settlement, which led to the active construction of factories to meet the needs of the Russian fleet. Factories cast guns, anchors, and manufacture weapons. The rapidly expanding village is renamed Lipskiye Zavody. It is 1703 that is considered the date of the founding of Lipetsk.

Peter the Great visits the city several times. A travel palace was built not far from the factories. It was a small wooden house consisting of three chambers. The palace burned down in a fire in 1806. Currently, the house has been completely rebuilt and is open to the public.

The Lower Park owes its appearance to Peter the Great. One day, while walking, he noticed a spring and ordered the composition of the water to be investigated. This is how mineral water was discovered, similar in composition to Western European water.

By decree of Catherine the Second, in 1779, Lipskiye Zavody received the status of a city and was renamed Lipetsk.

At the end of the 18th century, construction began on the most important temple in the city - the Nativity Cathedral. The temple houses a large shrine of the city - the Lipetsk Icon of the Mother of God. It is believed that the icon saved the city from cholera, which was rampant at the beginning of the 19th century.

Resort city

After the end of the Russian-Turkish war, the need for metal smelting decreased. Enterprises with more advanced technologies are appearing in the country. The center of metallurgy is moved to the Urals, and the Lipetsk factories are closed.

In 1806, a huge fire occurs, turning most of the wooden city into ruins. Lipetsk is being rebuilt according to a new plan: stone houses and wide straight streets.

The popularity of the mineral spring is increasing. The area around the well is being improved and an English garden is being created. In 1820, Alexander the First visited Lipetsk. Nobles and artists begin to come to the resort, performances and balls are actively held. The profile of the resort is expanding, mud therapy and peat therapy are appearing.

In 1839, thanks to the financing of the merchant Nebuchenov, the obelisk of Peter the Great was erected in gratitude to the miraculous properties of mineral water. It was at the Lipetsk resorts that the merchant managed to restore his health after a long illness. In 1869, a railway was built through the city and the Lipetsk station of the same name opened.

Revival of industry

The end of the 19th century was marked by a revival of manufacturing for the city. With the growth of the railway network in Russia, mining and mineral deposits are again in demand in Lipetsk and the surrounding area. The light and food industries are developing in the city: a tobacco factory, a tannery are opening, a sugar factory and a soap production are opening. During the period of industrialization in the left bank region, the construction of the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, a city-forming enterprise, began production in 1934. With the opening of the plant, Lipetsk becomes the center of the metallurgical industry.

During World War II, the local airport and factories were bombed, during which 328 civilians were killed. Hospitals were organized on the territory of the resort.

In 1954, Lipetsk became a regional center. Administrative institutions are beginning to be built, and streets are being beautified.

Today Lipetsk is a major producer of steel, construction materials, juices and mineral water, and a pilot training center.

Religious buildings

Lipetsk, whose sights and interesting places are freely accessible, is known for many religious sites. The most revered and visited are the Transfiguration Church, the Church of the Nativity of Christ, St. Nicholas Church and the Intercession Cathedral.

What is Lipetsk famous for?

Undoubtedly, each city has its own unique feature, which is its symbol. Lipetsk in this regard is an unusual city. This is a city of parks, fountains and squares, a resort city and... a factory city.

Lipetsk residents love Peter. The main decoration of the city - Peter Square - is absolutely stunning with its beauty and somehow “non-Russian” appearance: a magnificent monument to the city’s founding father, “singing” fountains, greenery, almost sterile cleanliness of the streets. Huge well-kept parks, the Green Theater, where performances are held every weekend evening, the absence of fuss on the city streets, polite car drivers - how do you like this portrait?

There is another monument to Peter on Petrovsky Spusk - this is a spire, installed in 1839. In the 19th century, the monument was jokingly called “toothpick” by vacationers for its unusual appearance. This is a cast-iron triangular pyramid with two bas-reliefs, which attest to Peter’s merits in establishing factories and discovering healing mineral springs.

It was Peter I who founded the city. In 1702, at the confluence of the Lipovka River and the Voronezh River, he ordered the establishment of factories for the smelting of cast iron, steel, and the manufacture of cannons. The choice of where to found the city was influenced by the proximity of iron ore deposits. Thanks to the source of mineral waters and the most beautiful southern landscapes, Lipetsk resorts were a favorite vacation spot for the St. Petersburg aristocracy.

Yes, yes, Lipetsk, it turns out, is the first Russian resort. It was founded in 1703 by Peter himself. The sources have still been preserved and are in perfect condition. They are located in Nizhny Park, which in itself is a pearl, because its age is more than 200 years. Lipetsk water is similar in composition to the mineral waters of the famous German resorts - Liebenstein and Thurmont. It is used in the treatment of the digestive system, and it simply tastes good.

“Singing” fountains are a special conversation. In the evening they perform classical and modern music, while the water shimmers in different colors and dances... The bowl of the fountain has light and music equipment installed, which allows you to create bizarre configurations from water jets that replace each other. As soon as it starts to get dark, the lights turn on. From the bowl flow streams colored in all the colors of the rainbow. The play of colors is accompanied by music from numerous speakers. The spectacle is beautiful and unusual, several days of shock are guaranteed for you!

There are many other fountains in the city; they are located, it seems, in any convenient place. Currently, construction is underway on a staircase-fountain leading from Cathedral Square to Petrovsky Spusk.

I think its view will be no less stunning than the view of Peter Square.

The industrial complex of Lipetsk still amazes the imagination: the famous Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, located on the left bank of the Voronezh River, is almost the size of a city! It was he who brought Lipetsk true glory. The construction site on the left bank of the Voronezh River, where centuries-old pine trees stood like a wall, began to be cleared in March 1931. The construction of a metallurgical enterprise, conceived as a plant with a full metallurgical cycle, became a turning point in the biography of Lipetsk. From a provincial town where they were engaged in gardening and horticulture, it turned into an industrial center.

Of course, such a developed industry does not contribute to a favorable environmental situation.

At the entrance to Lipetsk, an ashen haze envelops it, it becomes difficult to breathe, and smog hangs over the city... Despite this, the Matyrskoye Reservoir, located near Lipetsk, on the shore of which the plant’s chimneys are visible, is one of the favorite vacation spots of the townspeople. The purest sand, the same clean water, a pine forest on the shore - all this would be wonderful, if not for the periodically observed pink clouds emerging from those same factory chimneys... This is not only annoying, but also causes an irresistible desire to leave the shore as quickly as possible.

“Who's the scarecrow? I’m an exhibit!”

The zoo in Lipetsk is small, but there are a lot of animals there. About 4,000 animals, birds and reptiles, more than 310 species in total. The zoo also has a children's zoo, this is a separate area where harmless animals such as rabbits, kids, a small llama, chickens and other types of birds are kept. Children pet them, feed them and play with them! Currently, a winter garden is being reconstructed here, where there are enclosures with predatory cats and a small arboretum where many rare plants grow: banana trees, palm trees, bamboo. It is also worth saying that some time ago there was a “population explosion in animals” at the zoo, and this indicates good living conditions for the animals.

Lipetsk, which will amaze anyone

There is one interesting feature that can amaze any traveler: if you take the required left turn, then the next turn will be very long and, as a rule, a U-turn will be prohibited. That is, you drive, turn, continue moving along the perpendicular street and look for a turn to return to the desired street. or you pave a new path on the map.

Pyramid poplars dominate the city streets. It creates an amazing southern city feel.

Lipetsk “toothpick” and much more

People gave it the name “Toothpick” because it has the shape of a pointed pyramid. At the base of the monument there are bas-reliefs on both sides, and on the third side there is an inscription explaining to whom it is dedicated. The monument was erected in 1839 on the initiative of the merchant of the first guild Pavel Nebuchenov. From the monument you will go up to the House of the Pharmacist Vyazhlinsky or the “House of the Master”.

Lipetsk “toothpick”.

This two-story building is unique in its architecture, and exhibitions are held inside it. Recently, a sculpture by the artist Viktor Semenovich Sorokin, who is the “master,” appeared near the Pharmacist’s House. By the way, it makes good photos. If you go up the stairs, you will exit onto Lenin Square (Cathedral Square). There is a typical regional administration building, a monument to Lenin, and the Nativity of Christ Cathedral.

Master's house.

Its description says that the author of the project was Tomaso Adamini, and the cathedral church was built from 1791 to 1842. In 1931 it was closed, then it housed a local history museum; it was returned to the Orthodox only in 1991. Inside, the walls of the cathedral are decorated with paintings, there are two chapels, and the bell tower reaches 30 meters. The building is built in a classical style, decorated with golden domes.

Road to the temple. Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ.

From the temple you also go to Lenin Street, but on its other side. This is where the main attractions are located - buildings built in the nineteenth century. The two-story house of General Gubin was created in the style of classicism. Local historians say that previously there was a building on that site that belonged to the Pushkins. There is evidence that Emperor Alexander II and the poet Zhukovsky, who accompanied his pupil on trips around the country, stayed in the general’s house. Unfortunately, the interior interiors have not been preserved, and exhibitions are held in the building.

Alexander II stayed here.

A little further there is an exhibition hall, where you can also get acquainted with art, and if you go forward, there will be a local history museum. It is located in a building erected during the Soviet period; it was the House of Political Education. Upper Park is across the street. It was founded in 1811 and is another interesting place in the city. In the nineteenth century, just like on the other side of the street, there were merchant houses there. Currently located:

  • Fountains.
  • Park area.
  • A multi-figure sculpture popularly called “The Beatles”, but in fact it is the orchestra of the First Cavalry Army.
  • Monument to the omnipresent Lenin.
  • Monument to pioneer heroes.
  • House of the merchant Rusinov.

Nowadays it is the Wedding Palace.

The two-story building where the Rusinovs lived has been restored. However, they may not be allowed inside without a guide, since this is a Wedding Palace. They won’t be allowed into the Lipetsk diocese either. The former cinema building was erected in 1957, the last reconstruction took place in 2004.

Once upon a time we watched a movie there...

The most interesting excursions in Lipetsk:

Souvenir shops

All souvenirs in Lipetsk are sold in shops for tourists and in gift shops in the city center. They have the standard names: “World of Gifts”, “Gifts-Souvenirs”, “Souvenir Workshop”... In a word, it’s hard to miss them. There is no particular difference in the assortment.

We'll talk about branded stores a little later. For a whole range of souvenirs that Lipetsk is famous for, it is better to go there. It makes sense to buy some things from museums. In addition, during major holidays the city holds large fairs. If you catch them, you will bring home a lot of original handmade souvenirs.

Stop by for souvenirs and the Museum of Decorative Arts. Here you will even be taught how to make them yourself. For handicraft souvenirs, go to the fair in Kudykina Gora Park.

Zoo

A very good place to go with children in Lipetsk. Near the entrance to the zoo there is a figure of a deer, near which you can take a photo. There are many animals here, and the conditions for keeping them are good.

The zoo has a special animal adoption program. Many people or organizations seem to adopt animals or birds, and some cages have signs of these “relatives.” Here you can see swans, pink flamingos, bison, zebra, lizards, tarantulas and so on.

Tourists say that you can buy bags of food and feed the animals. The kids really like this.

Yelets lace

The factory for the production of the famous lace is located near Lipetsk - in the city of Yelets. If you are interested in handmade work, be prepared to spend money: prices for collars start from 5 thousand rubles, for napkins – from 2 thousand, for jackets – from as much as 50 thousand. But each item is unique.

The brand also produces clothes: skirts, dresses, shirts, coats. Prices start from about 2 thousand rubles. Tablecloths cost about 1.5-2.5 thousand, napkins - about 500 rubles. Yelets lace is highly valued, and the largest selection of goods is right here - in the Lipetsk region. If you like this kind of thing, go shopping at the factory’s branded stores in Yelets.

Architectural structures in Lipetsk

You won’t find ancient and ancient castles in Lipetsk, despite the fact that the city is more than 3 centuries old. However, there are places of interest from both cultural and architectural points of view.

Borki Estate

At the beginning of the last century, about 5,000 hectares of Lipetsk lands belonged to a relative of the imperial family - the cousin of Nicholas II, Prince Andrei Vladimirovich. It was on the Lipetsk lands that the prince decided to develop his family estate. This is how the estate appeared in the village of Borki. All buildings were designed by St. Petersburg architect Alexander von Gauguin.

Rubble stones and sea sandstone were used in construction, thanks to which most of the buildings have retained the attractive appearance of their facades to this day.

The main part of the ensemble was built in a pseudo-medieval style with narrow loopholes and prominent towers. Between the buildings there was an English park, at the end of which there was a cascading pond. In addition to the main castle, the territory of the estate included servants' houses, a separate dining room, a stable, and an access yard with the main gate.

The village of Borki is located 110 km from Lipetsk. You can get to it via the M4 federal highway. After the troubled events of 1917, the estate complex was nationalized by the new government. In 1918, the press announced the opening of an orphanage in the building of the Romanov family nest, which was supposed to accommodate at least 200 refugee children from Belarus and Ukraine.

A labor school and workshop premises were also organized there. Already in the modern world, in the late 90s. The school was moved to new premises. The estate remained desolate. In 2007, a local businessman bought the estate, after which he restored it and opened a hotel and entertainment complex in it.

Apples

Among the products in Lipetsk, as in neighboring Kursk, the first thing you should try is local apples. Natural, juicy, unprocessed. They are so tasty and inexpensive that you want to take bags of them home. By the way, if you ask local grandmothers, in the fall they will collect even that much without any problems. Don't be afraid, the apples will survive the journey just fine. From Lipetsk to St. Petersburg, for example, they will definitely get there.

Well, if the size of your luggage does not allow you to pick up apples, buy local homemade jam. Again, it’s better in the markets or from grandmothers’ hands. Don't be afraid to take goods from merchants along the highways. They usually don’t deceive tourists, but are only happy to sell you apples.

No, we're not kidding! We really recommend bringing this product from Lipetsk. Or rather, not exactly from it, but from the town of Zadonsk. It is located half an hour from the regional center. They bake such delicious bread that it’s worth not only trying it, but also taking it home. It is important that here he is always “today’s” - they don’t keep the old. What are we telling you? You’d better try it and understand everything yourself. If your journey home is not too far, take a couple of loaves with you.

Toy library and “My-shka”

The first one is located on Titova Street. You can send your child to have fun on the rides, and go to a cafe yourself, it is nearby. The game library is located in the shopping area on the third floor. There is a 7D cinema here.

The Myshka toy library is located in the Karusel hypermarket on Gagarin Street. It is interesting (for those who are thinking about where to go with children in Lipetsk) because there are several sections where children can climb. Toys are laid out in sections. A child can climb until he gets tired.

Mineral water

In Lipetsk, you should definitely try the local mineral water. It’s more convenient to take bottled one home:

  • "Lipetsk pump room";
  • "Lipetsk dew";
  • "Artesian";
  • "Edelweiss".

Kids might like fruity sodas. It is produced by the local brand Lipetskpivo. But there’s no catch here – this is classic lemonade with mineral water. Of course, you can buy mineral water from Lipetsk in almost every city. But if you're traveling by car, why not bring a couple of bottles as a gastronomic souvenir?

Lipetskpiva products are not always available in supermarkets in other cities. So, perhaps, you can bring a bottle or two as a gift to a friend. Lipetsk beer cannot be called anything special or very tasty, but the reviews about it are not bad. Popular products include:

  • "Czech recipe";
  • "German recipe";
  • "Irish Recipe";
  • "Lipetskoye";
  • "Buddy".

If you're traveling home by train, it's probably not worth buying one. But if by car, it’s a different story.

Parks

The amusement park is located on Vodopyanova Street in the Malina cinema complex. There are various attractions there: horses, slides, even a UFO! Sweets are sold, including cotton candy, ice cream, and there is a playroom for very young children. There is a children's playground, it is large, and the prices are quite affordable.

Lower Park is a place that is loved not only by the townspeople themselves, but also by city guests. It seems to be intended for those who are thinking about where to take a walk with their child in Lipetsk; it is located in the Right Bank. They say that Peter the Great himself discovered healing springs here, a resort was opened in this place, and then a garden was laid out. If you are thinking about where to go in Lipetsk with a child, then be sure to visit this place.

Citizens are advised to come here on weekends, as various events are constantly held here: brass bands perform, groups give concerts, and various competitions are held.

In general, it won't be boring. A big plus is that throughout the park there are fountains from which mineral water flows, you can drink it.

Advice: if you go with your child to different attractions, it is best to buy a subscription, it will be more profitable.

Where to eat

There are many places in the city that are worthy of visiting; the Pizza bar is considered especially favorite among the townspeople. The name of the bar and its internal styling are fully consistent with the authentic Italian style. According to Lipsk residents, the best pizza in the city is baked here. The bar serves cold beer to accompany the pizza.

The bar area consists of 4 rooms, each of which is decorated in its own special style. So, there are oriental, Italian, Venetian and French halls. Each room has a large plasma TV. Prices for items in the cafe are quite affordable. The average bill per person is 450 rubles. The rating of the most visited restaurants is headed by the Amsterdam establishment.

The restaurant is located in the center of Lipetsk, on Proletarskaya Street. The establishment is perfect for those who like to experiment with new dishes and are not afraid of innovation. In addition to experimental cuisine, classic European dishes are also served. There are signature dishes, the menu is updated and new dishes are added several times a year. The average bill per person is 1200 rubles.

The Giusto restaurant is also very popular. The establishment is a harmonious combination of Japanese and Italian cuisines. “Giusto” is located in the very heart of Lipetsk, on Lenin Street. During warm seasons, there is a summer open veranda. There are rooms for smokers and non-smokers, and private parking.

The highlight of the restaurant is a huge projector, and when there are a lot of guests in the restaurant, old films and cartoons are shown. The average bill is up to 1000 rubles.
