The special development of the resort with thermal springs began in the mid-19th century, under Tsarist Russia, when local residents began to notice the beneficial effect of thermal waters on the human body. Under Soviet rule, the development of the resort continued, and to this day, thousands of tourists come to the city of Pyatigorsk and its environs.
In winter, Pyatigorsk is popular for its ski slopes, and in summer for its amazing nature on the mountain slopes. Thermal springs are suitable for year-round visiting and healing. Gukasov's coffee shop
This coffee shop appeared thanks to entrepreneur A.A. Gukasov, who built a building resembling a ship for his beloved, who dreamed of the sea. The coffee shop opened in 1909. After the revolution, the building housed a workers' cooperative canteen. During the war, the Germans turned the coffee shop into a restaurant for officers. In the 90s of the twentieth century, the building was restored and now it looks the same as it did on the opening day.
Near Gukasov’s coffee shop there is a sculpture of the hero of “The Twelve Chairs” by Kisa Vorobyaninov. The bronze sculpture was installed in 2008, but was soon stolen, then a new sculpture was made and concrete was poured inside.
Lermontov Gallery
The gallery opened in 1901 on the day of memory of M.Yu. Lermontov. This is one of the main historical monuments of Pyatigorsk and one of the oldest exhibition and concert halls, which is located in the Tsvetnik park. F. Chaliapin, M. Ermolova, A. Duncan, V. Mayakovsky performed here at one time. The Lermontov Gallery has retained its original appearance without changes. Currently, you can get into the gallery by purchasing a ticket to a music concert.

Gazebo "Eolian Harp"
The gazebo, supported on eight white stone columns, located on a high mountain cliff, was built according to the design of the Italian architect Joseph Karlovich Bernardazzi in 1831. For more than 30 years, “wind music” has been sounded here thanks to a special aeolian harp that responds to air movement. The gazebo got its name in honor of her. She is mentioned in “Hero of Our Time” by Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. Today there is a modern musical arrangement, independent of the wind. But the views and beauty opening from the site where the Aeolian Harp gazebo is located have been preserved in their original state.

Lake Proval
Another iconic place for those who once visited Pyatigorsk is a walk to Lake Proval and buying a ticket from Ostap Bender “so that Proval doesn’t fail.” Lake water has an amazing blue color and a specific smell, which can be explained quite simply. Getting an answer about the color of the water, and at the same time the opportunity to admire the underground cave, will be a well-deserved bonus for those who get here. The attraction is located at the end of Gagarin Boulevard; you can get to Proval by bus No. 1.
Interesting information comes from repeaters located at the entrance to the Proval. The horizontal entrance to the cave was cut in 1858, and until that moment, brave and inquisitive citizens were lowered to the lake from above in a special basket. The height of the karst cave is 41 meters, and the natural entrance can be seen at the top if you raise your head. The lake itself and the cave were explored much earlier; this was done by the German scientist Peter Simon Pallas in 1793. Currently, Lake Proval is of a demonstration nature, so access to it is limited by a fence.

Lermontov's theme for Pyatigorsk is the main leitmotif for all excursion programs, walks of citizens and guests of the city. Diana's Grotto
The rock grotto, named after the ancient Greek goddess Diana, is associated with several historical events, and quite positive ones at that. This natural grotto was decorated and fortified with columns in honor of the first ascent of Elbrus. Later it was given a different name - Diana's Grotto, a name that has survived to this day. Another historical fact that makes us perceive this place somewhat differently is associated with Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. Here he was the organizer of a ball for ladies exactly a week before his tragic death. Apparently this life contrast - the ball and the duel makes us especially perceive this amazing place, from where you can admire the views of nature and think about the vicissitudes of fate, such an unusually short step separating life and death, fun and duel.

Characteristics of the species
Pike perch is a representative of perch fish and lives in rivers with fresh water. Pike perch is considered a large fish; an adult weighs up to 15 kg and reaches a length of no more than one meter.
A characteristic feature of such fish are large teeth in the form of fangs, between which smaller teeth, sharp as a blade, have grown. The teeth of males are much larger than those of females.
In the Black Sea there is sea pike perch, such fish are much smaller than river pike perch. The sea pike perch reaches only 55 cm in length and weighs no more than one and a half kilograms. This fish has a special body, long, narrow, compressed towards the sides.
The back and upper part of the head are dark green, the belly is gray. Scales with characteristic black dots. There are also dark spots on the fin.
Pike perch senses all smells well, but it is prohibited to catch it in water bodies, as it is listed in the Red Book. The state took the fish under protection due to the fact that their numbers have noticeably decreased in recent decades.
Entertainment in Sudak
Taigan Lions Park with children.
. This is not a zoo in the usual sense. Tigers and lions live in relative freedom in safari parks or in huge enclosures. The park also has a regular zoo with other animals.

Holy Intercession Church
The main Orthodox church of the city is included in the official lists of pilgrimage places in Crimea. It was built at the beginning of the 19th century. Built in the traditional Christian classicism style. The temple was repeatedly visited by members of the royal family; in 1912, Nicholas II personally allocated money for the reconstruction of the temple. The 30-meter-high bell tower of the church was completely destroyed during Soviet times and restored in 2005-2006.
Lutheran Church
Located on the territory of the village of Udachny. It is a wonderful example of German architecture. The church was built in 1887 by German colonists. The area around the church is a real open-air museum. The courtyard of the Greek church of the 10th-12th centuries has been preserved. The lapidarium houses about 30 ancient tombstones, moved here from the former cemetery. Thematic temporary exhibitions are held.
Church of St. Paraskeva
Located near the Lutheran Church. It was built by the Greek community, and after the departure of Christians from Crimea, it was used for some time by the German Lutheran community. The church was built in the 10th-12th centuries and is perfectly preserved. You can examine ancient masonry elements and fragments of plaster. The building looks simple and modest, there are no decorations. Its pointed vault is typical for religious buildings in Crimea.
Church of the Twelve Apostles
An active Orthodox church on the territory of the Genoese fortress, next to the Port Tower. Its appearance and ascetic architecture are very similar to the appearance of the Church of St. Paraskeva. The small rectangular structure is more reminiscent of a Byzantine chapel. The exact date of its construction is unknown; historians determine the period of its foundation between the 13th and 15th centuries. The frescoes inside depict a copy of the famous Last Supper.
Temple with arcade
It is part of the Genoese fortress. The temple was built in the 13th century and has been rebuilt several times since then. You can see 4 layers of masonry from different times. Some stories believe that it was originally a mosque building, which the Greeks converted into an Orthodox church. From 1883 to 1924 the temple functioned as an Armenian Catholic one. Since 1926, a museum has been operating within its walls. The temple received its name because of its arched design.
Church of St. Elijah in Solnechnaya Dolina
An ancient basilica located in the center of the village of Solnechnaya Dolina. It is built on a small hill. Considered the oldest functioning church in Crimea, it was built in the 10th-12th centuries. The architecture of the building is similar to ancient Armenian temples. The main relic of the temple is the marble font. It is made from a preserved element of a column from a pagan temple of the 4th-5th centuries. The ancient font is still used in baptismal rituals.
A little about the city
On the map of Crimea, Sudak is located in the southwest of the peninsula in the delta of the river of the same name. On one side, the territory of the city is limited by Mount Fortress, on the other - by Cape Alchak. Sudak is protected from the wind by a mountain range and artificial forest belts. The climate is mild, without sharp temperature fluctuations. The average annual temperature is 12 °C . Snow falls rarely and never lies for a long time.
The sea in Sudak Bay warms up quite early and remains warm for a long time. Thanks to this, the swimming season lasts from early June to mid-October.
The history of the city goes back several centuries. The first human settlement on the site of modern Sudak appeared in the 3rd century AD. The ancient name Sogdea gradually transformed into the familiar Sudak.
Over its long history, the city was repeatedly captured and destroyed and rebuilt again. The Genoese, Mongols, and Turks visited here. In the 20th century, winemaking began to develop, and then the tourism industry. Now this is one of the main Crimean resorts, the prices of which are incredible .
In Sudak and its immediate surroundings, tourists can see many attractions. Among them there are historical monuments, amusement parks and beautiful natural places.
