Sights of Novosibirsk in summer
Novosibirsk is a large industrial, cultural and business city, the third largest in the country by population, it is called the capital of Siberia and a city of great opportunities. According to the results of the National Tourism Rating 2021, which assesses the tourist attractiveness of regions, the Novosibirsk region is included in the “Golden Twenty”, occupying 15th place there. So why is Novosibirsk interesting for tourists?
Story
Novosibirsk is a young city, it was founded in 1893, and ten years later received city status. Its history began with the construction of a railway bridge across the Ob. This bridge played a big role in the development of all of Siberia, and for Novosibirsk it became the very beginning, thanks to which a small, little-known village turned into a huge city in just a few decades. The structures of the bridge, built in 1893–1897, were worn out and outdated; in 2000 it was dismantled, and in its place a new bridge was built in accordance with modern requirements. Next to the new bridge, one span structure of the old bridge was preserved as a museum exhibit, as a memory, and a park was laid out nearby, which, as a sign that it was from this place that Novosibirsk began to grow and develop, was called “Urban Beginning .
In 2012, a monument to Emperor Alexander III was erected in the park next to the preserved span of the first bridge. It was by his decree that the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway began, which actually predetermined the birth of the city of Novosibirsk.

Architecture
Looking at the founding date of the city, you will understand that you should not look for Baroque buildings here. Soon after its birth, the city became the capital of the Siberian region and began to develop at an extraordinary pace! Novosibirsk was built up on a large scale in the 1920s - early 1930s; it was a period of functionalism and constructivism in architecture; it was replaced by post-constructivism, in which classical elements were already present.
Novosibirsk has unique buildings, such as the Opera House or the Novosibirsk-Glavny railway station . You should not pass by the buildings that are included in the catalogs of the best avant-garde objects in the world; there is something to do for lovers of wooden architecture and carved frames.

Temples
Novosibirsk has opportunities for pilgrimage tourism, as the city is famous for its temples, which are known far beyond the Novosibirsk region. Orthodox tourists making a religious pilgrimage must visit the Ascension Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Church of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church and others.
Ascension Cathedral is the main temple of Novosibirsk. At first, the church in honor of the Ascension of the Lord, built in 1913, was wooden; it was located on the outskirts of the city and was one of the poorest in Novonikolaevsk. After the formation of the Novonikolaevsk diocese in 1924, the bishop's chair began to be located in the church. In 1937, the temple was closed, a granary was built in it, and returned to the church in 1944 through the efforts of Archbishop Bartholomew. In 1974, the reconstruction of the cathedral began, which was completed in 1988 for the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus': the building became completely stone, the interior walls were decorated with paintings, and mosaics were placed outside in the lunettes above the entrances.
The Cathedral in the name of Alexander Nevsky in the neo-Byzantine style is one of the first stone buildings in Novonikolaevsk. The temple was built in 1899 as a monument to Emperor Alexander III, the organizer of the Great Siberian Route. The cathedral was closed in 1937, but only the bell tower was blown up. The building first housed a design institute and then a newsreel studio. The building was returned to the church in 1989. In 2021, a monument to Nicholas II and Tsarevich Alexei was unveiled near the cathedral.

If those who come to the city on the Ob have a question about what to do in Novosibirsk, there is only one answer: immediately go to the local planetarium! It is so beautiful that it takes your breath away, and at the same time so huge that you can spend the whole day in it.
And what’s not there! Of course, the observatory. And besides it, there are many different studios, projects, educational programs for schoolchildren and more. All visitors to the planetarium can learn many interesting facts about astronomy and related disciplines. Truly, if you are planning what to visit in Novosibirsk, then the planetarium must be among the must-see places. It’s not difficult to find: Klyuch-Kamyshenskoye Plateau street, building 1/1.
Where to swim
In summer, everyone strives to find a place where they can swim. Residents of Novosibirsk have no problems with this; there is a wide choice of beach holiday options: on the banks of the Ob River, the Novosibirsk Reservoir or numerous lakes. The main thing is to choose a place that is allowed for swimming and meets all the necessary requirements for water quality and facilities, and the list of such places is published annually by Rospotrebnadzor before the official opening of the beach season.
The Zvezda beach is popular on the shores of the Ob Sea, half an hour’s drive from Novosibirsk. It has everything you need for relaxation: well-groomed territory, water attractions, many cafes. You can also order a place to relax in gazebos with barbecues or a summer guest house. This is one of the safest beaches, there is a rescue tower and a first aid station, and the territory is controlled by security. Parking is paid, but access to the beach is free. Here you can take part in holidays with foam parties, and they also organize quests for children.
beach Sun City has a lot to offer for relaxation : water activities, beach volleyball courts, sports equipment rentals, numerous fast food outlets and cafes, you can rent houses and gazebos with views of the Ob Sea.
the beach “Near the Ob Sea” is perfect , where you can rent catamarans and sun loungers, trampolines for children, water attractions, and kiosks with food and soft drinks. The Bugrinskaya Roshcha beach is popular , where the choice of entertainment is not so varied, but prices are lower, both for attractions and food, and a variety of sporting events are regularly held.
Many bodies of water do not receive official permission for swimming due to difficult terrain, fast currents or water quality, but not everyone pays attention to this. Usually in the summer the banks of all reservoirs are occupied by vacationers, despite the prohibitions.

Old railway bridge truss
When the Trans-Siberian Railway was built, this section of the bridge structure was the only possibility of railway communication across the Ob River. 100 years later, a new, more modern one was built, and the old one was dismantled, but not completely. One of the sites has become a monument that is being looked after - they have illuminated it, created a park nearby, and fireworks are set off once a year.
Bugrinsky Bridge
It is modern, built in 2014, so its appearance, purpose, and capacity correspond to the era. In addition to its direct function, its appearance is fascinating – the red arch looks great in photographs. There are paths for pedestrians on both sides.
Summer holidays with children
Have you come to Novosibirsk with children? Rest assured, they won’t be bored if you plan your vacation correctly so that it is interesting to all family members, regardless of age.
In the summer, a win-win option is the Novosibirsk Zoo , one of the largest zoos in the country. It occupies an area of 65 hectares in the territory of a magnificent pine forest, so one gets the impression that the animals are in their natural habitat, and a walk in the shade of the trees even in the summer heat will not seem tiring. The zoo has a unique collection of animals - about 11 thousand individuals of 770 species. It’s not for nothing that the Novosibirsk Zoo participated in the competition to select the “Seven Wonders of Russia” and even reached the finals.

You can spend a whole day visiting the zoo; the entertainment here is varied and not limited to cages and enclosures with animals and birds. Children will be interested in seeing the huge dinosaurs, feeding the ducks and swans in the pond, or checking out the Upside Down House.
On the territory of the zoo there is “Dolphinia” - the Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology. In 30 marine aquariums you can see more than 300 species of fish and marine animals: sharks, rays, moray eels and other inhabitants of the seas and oceans, and there is also a tunnel that runs through the aquarium. In the dolphinarium you can see a unique show “Formula of Miracles” with marine mammals, in which animals of different species that do not intersect in the wild perform simultaneously.
You can combine a visit to the zoo with a train ride on the Children's Railway , which is located nearby in Zaeltsovsky Park.

There are parks with various entertainment for children in every district of the city; you don’t have to travel far. A large playground with various attractions in the Central Park of Culture and Leisure. We recommend coming here in the evening to admire the light and sound show of the largest fountain in Novosibirsk.
Popular with local residents and guests of the city is Mikhailovskaya Embankment , which stretches along the banks of the Ob River from the “City Beginning” park to the river station. There is a walking area, sports grounds with exercise equipment, a bike path, a skateboard area, a children's playground, and an amusement park with a large Ferris wheel.
Having reached the river station , you can go for a walk along the Ob and the Ob Sea by boat. Various options for excursions are offered, both entertaining and educational, this can become an unforgettable adventure of the past summer for your children.
If the weather turns bad, a variety of indoor entertainment centers in Novosibirsk offer their services. Children's recreation was organized in large shopping centers in the Royal Park shopping center, Happy Land in the Novosibirsk Gallery, Funky Town in Sun City and the Siberian Mall shopping center, Kinderville in Golden Park, KidBurg and "Baby" in MEGA. And this is not the entire list; the city has various trampoline parks, climbing walls, family entertainment centers, quest complexes, laser tag clubs, rope parks and much more, no less interesting.

If you live in a small city, don't forget to take the metro, it will also be fun for your child. For example, you can visit Glory Square, where there is an exhibition of equipment from the Great Patriotic War.

Beautiful places
If you want to enjoy nature, this city is great. After all, there are amazing plants here - the mixed forest turns into taiga, which increases the range of flora and fauna. First, let's note two natural parks.
Zaeltsovsky

Laboratory Mouse Monument
Many people know that Novosibirsk is the center of Russian scientific thought. Therefore, in Academgorodok, near the Institute of Cytology and Genetics, a monument was erected in honor of those animals that most often serve as little helpers for scientists. A mouse in glasses knits a DNA chain, which symbolizes science in the hands of man.
Sculptural composition “Purchase Scene”
On Michurina, 12, you can see an interesting frozen three-dimensional picture from Eduard Dobrovolsky - a woman seller lures a man with goods, and the simpleton does not notice how a smart dog pulls sausages from his bag.
Traffic light monument
Another interesting monument is located at the intersection of Sibrevkoma and Serebrennikovskaya streets. The place is easily accessible from the famous Hundred Apartment Building. In 2006, the country celebrated the 70th anniversary of the traffic police structure, and therefore this facility was opened. The location was chosen for a reason, since it was here, near the ancient educational institution, that the first traffic controller was erected - he switched manually, but was very helpful in regulating the flow of traffic, especially when children returned from the lyceum.
Where to go from Novosibirsk on your own
In the summer, if you have free time, you can get acquainted with the natural beauties of the Novosibirsk region. Much is available if you come to Novosibirsk with your own transport or have the opportunity to rent a car. Traveling by public transport is also possible, but it will take longer.
130 kilometers from Novosibirsk are the Berd Rocks - a natural monument of regional significance, one of the most picturesque places near the city. This is a steep rocky area 300 meters wide and 1.3 kilometers long along the right bank of the Berd River, from the top of which there are magnificent views of the Berd valley, the winding river, and forested slopes. The location is unique for the Novosibirsk region, since the region is flat and low-lying, and is not characterized by rocky terrain.
The second name of the Berdsk rocks is St. John's wort, since here this grass picturesquely covers the slopes. This is also the name of the landscaped ecological route created for tourists visiting this place. The ecological trail “St. John's wort” stretches for seven kilometers along the Berd River and ends at the top of the Berd Rocks. There are signs, comfortable benches where you can relax and admire the views, stands with information about the flora and fauna of the Berd Rocks.
In one day you can visit both the Berd Rocks and Belovsky Falls , an unusual waterfall located in a flat area. The waterfall received its name from the nearby village of Belovo. On a hot summer day you can swim in it.

Other famous places in the city
If you have already visited all the major architectural sites, natural scenic spots, and also attended several performances and listened to the opera, it’s time to walk the streets and look at the monuments.
Lenin Square
It is located in the very center of the city, in the middle there is a classic version of the bronze leader of the world proletariat, and around the circumference there are buildings with more than 100 years of history: the City Trade Building, the Business House, the State Bank, the Regional Potrebsoyuz, the Opera and Ballet Theater.
Restaurant "Neighbors"
Are you hungry? Step into one of the most fashionable places in the city. The flavor of an ancient hut has been completely recreated here - wooden furniture, wooden ceilings and floors, Russian folk food.
Where to stay in Novosibirsk
Novosibirsk ranks first on the list of the largest cities in Russia. There are no problems with housing for tourists, only if it is difficult to choose among the variety. The city has more than a hundred hotels, old-timers or new complexes, six of which are part of large global chains, offering eight times more apartments and a decent selection of forty hostels. Choosing housing in Novosibirsk will most likely require an integrated approach: taking into account location and price, star rating, visual attractiveness and personal preferences.
Maybe you want to stay closer to the park, for example, in Sosnovy Bor or Ramada Novosibirsk Zhukovka, to breathe the fresh air of the pine forest. Or check out the theater nearby, like the hotel, so you don’t have to go back too far in the evening. If you admire the panorama sparkling with lights, choose housing in the center, near Krasny Street Avenue. Kirov, love the water landscape - apartments in high-rise buildings on the banks of the Ob River or River Park. Some of the hotels have a large swimming pool, sauna and spa center, where it is pleasant to relax after an exciting walk, or are located near city beaches, which is important in the summer. Various filters in the search engine will help you find your place of residence based on specific parameters.

Park "Bugrinskaya Grove"
One of the favorite places for recreation and walks for city residents is located near Vatutina Street, about a kilometer from Mega. The park was named “Grove” for a reason. This is a truly quiet, dense and very picturesque grove, in the shade of whose trees it is so pleasant to walk. The park cannot be called very well-maintained, but the silence and tranquility that reigns in it overcomes all the existing shortcomings and gives an atmosphere of goodness and peace.
There are practically no attractions in the park; this place is more for walking than for entertainment. There is live music and other entertainment on Saturdays and Sundays, and ski rentals are available in winter. The park is open to everyone from eleven in the morning.
Museums
On the left bank of Novosibirsk, on Parkhomenko Street, there is a wonderful Museum of the History of the Development of the Leninsky District. It has both permanent and periodic exhibitions. The temporary ones are most often thematic, but the permanent ones present a variety of household items, documents, products from industrial enterprises, photographs and much, much more, which give an idea of the life of this area of Novosibirsk in the early years.
This is brief information about the infrastructure of the left bank of the city of Novosibirsk. Come there yourself and you will love this wonderful city with all your heart!
Embankment
Where can you go out with a girl in Novosibirsk? On the embankment near the River Station, of course! It is quite long and well equipped - there is somewhere to walk and where to sit. There are many cafes that offer barbecue, ice cream, beer and other all kinds of things that are pleasant to the stomach. From the embankment there is a view of the metro bridge, which was already mentioned above. There are also rollerblade and bicycle rentals there. And a light fountain works on the water - an amazing sight. There is also an amusement park on the embankment, so not only adults, but also children will not get bored there. In addition, this is where all sorts of events and celebrations often take place. Finding the right place is not difficult: you just need to go down from the Rechnoy Vokzal metro station.
Ascension Cathedral
Built in the classical Christian style, the Ascension Cathedral, located in the center, is considered the main temple of Novosibirsk. Its construction was completed in 1913, and since then it has held services every day and notified the population about important Orthodox holidays by ringing bells.
Ascension Cathedral
- Address : st. Sovetskaya, 91.
- Time : on holidays from 6:00, on weekdays from 8:00 to 19:00.
Theaters
There is only one theater on the left bank of Novosibirsk, and it is called, surprisingly, “On the Left Bank”. Its history begins with an ordinary drama club, the life of which changed dramatically in the late fifties of the last century, when a graduate of the Leningrad Theater University ended up as a director there.
The drama club turned into a studio school, and existed in this form until 1993 - then the Novosibirsk Philharmonic took it under its wing, and the theater began to be called the Philharmonic. The temple of Melpomene received its present name twenty-one years ago - in 1997. The theater's repertoire is mainly dramatic.
Zvezda Park
If possible, you should definitely visit the Zvezda recreation park, located in the Berdsky dead end. This is a great chance to have a good time outdoors with loved ones, barbecue, and relax in nature. For this there are all the necessary conditions: small summer houses that can be rented, cottages for wealthier holidaymakers, a tourist base, as well as all kinds of cafes, many gazebos throughout the territory and, of course, a bathhouse. In other words, there is everything both for a family holiday and for spending time in a cheerful, friendly company. This is a truly gorgeous place in Novosibirsk, which is really worth a trip.
Educational establishments
There are more than enough schools on the left bank of Novosibirsk. Among them there are regular secondary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, and special correctional institutions. There is even a Siberian Cadet Corps! In general, you can choose an institution for your child to suit every taste.
The following establishments received the greatest number of positive reviews:
- Secondary school No. 210 in the Gorsky microdistrict.
- Gymnasium No. 16 on Parkhomenko (it is considered French).

Novosibirsk is the largest city located beyond the Urals. His age barely exceeds 100 years, but the pace of development is amazing in its speed. This is the economic, cultural, transport and, of course, scientific center of Siberia, which has rightfully earned the title of capital.
The greatest concentration of attractions is located in the central districts of the city: Central, Zheleznodorozhny, Zaeltsovsky. But Akademgorodok, the scientific center of Novosibirsk, where the most modern research, educational and economic institutions are located, deserves special attention.
Metrobridge
A landmark of Novosibirsk, known throughout the country, is its metro bridge. Of course, you can’t walk along it, but the spectacle is worth seeing.
First, and most importantly: it has seven spans! The length of the bridge is more than two thousand meters, and it is the longest covered metro bridge in the world. In the world, and not just in our country!
The metro bridge in Novosibirsk appeared in the mid-eighties of the last century. At that time, there was a serious problem of transport connection between the two banks, which this structure was designed to solve. However, it was not initially planned: they were going to dig a tunnel under the Ob, but this turned out to be unprofitable, and as a result, a similar version of the metro bridge was approved.
It took five whole years to build, but in the end it was not in vain. After all, now this bridge is a real decoration of the city, one might say, its calling card, which all guests of the Siberian capital inevitably come to admire. By the way, an interesting fact: the metro bridge is designed in such a way that it becomes shorter in winter and longer in summer. All thanks to special rollers in its mechanism. Such an operation is necessary due to the strong temperature difference in Siberia. The metro bridge is not difficult to find: you just need to go to the River Station embankment.
