Holidays in Mari El

Many festivals and holidays are held in cities and the capital Yoshkar-Ola at different times of the year. In the summer in June, the republican national holiday Peledysh payrem - translated from Mari as the Flower Festival, during which the results of spring field work are summed up and mass festivities take place throughout the Mari region.

1. Center of Yoshkar-Ola

The center of Yoshkar-Ola is a corner of Europe in the center of Russia.

It is called a corner of Europe in the center of Russia. The calling card of the capital is the embankment of the Malaya Kokshaga River within the urban landscape of Yoshkar-Ola, which amazes with its unusual architectural design. 3. Bolshaya Kokshaga Nature Reserve

7. Pugachev Oak

Translated from the Mari language, “Mari Chodra” means “Mari forest”. The national park is an ecologically clean area. This is a picturesque area that delights with its incomparable views.

The national park is famous for its cleanest karst lakes - Yalchik, Konan-Er, Tot-Er, Shut-Er, Glukhoe, Kichier, as well as incredibly rich flora and fauna. It is here that the real giant tree is located - the Pugachev oak, covered with many legends. According to one of them, in 1774, a detachment of Emelyan Pugachev stopped near the oak tree. According to legend, having climbed a tree, the ataman watched the Kazan settlements set on fire by his army.

In 1969, the oak was declared a valuable forest site of historical significance, and to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Pugachev uprising in 1974, a memorial stone was erected on this site. In April 2013, the tree was given the official status of a wildlife monument.

The height of the tree is 26 meters, and the diameter of the trunk is 1.6 meters. According to previous research, the tree began to grow around 1500.

8. Museum of Satire and Humor named after. Ostap Bender

In Kozmodemyansk there is a museum named after Ostap Bender.
