Alushta - all about the city of Alushta: beaches, hotels, history and much more

Alushta is a beautiful Black Sea resort on the southern coast of Crimea (SC) with a mysterious name, attractive and somehow invisibly different from its no less famous neighbors, Yalta and Sudak. These most elusive notes make not only numerous tourists, but also filmmakers fall in love with them. It was in Alushta and its surroundings that one of the most famous films of the USSR, Captive of the Caucasus, was filmed. Leonid Gaidai was captivated by the beauty of these places and returned here more than once in search of inspiration.

Name of the resort city Alushta

There are several versions regarding where the name of the city of Alushta came from. The first, most interesting, is associated with the ancient Greeks. Translated from their language, “aloustos” means “unwashed, you can’t swim.” But where do such associations come from? The fact is that during the period of colonization they considered the Black Sea inhospitable and even dangerous. Some scientists associate “Alushta” with the Aryan language and the widespread word in it “salusta” - “mouth”. Indeed, the Ulu-Uzen River flows through the city, flowing into the Black Sea. And finally, the third version is connected with the Germanic peoples - it is absolutely known for sure that Gothic tribes lived in this area. In their language there is a word “alista”, which translates as “alder”. Indeed, beautiful alder groves still grow on the hills surrounding Alushta.

History of Alushta

It’s difficult to say exactly when the history of Alushta began - it goes back to ancient times; in those days, Taurian tribes lived in these areas. The first official mentions of Alushta as a city date back to the 6th century and are associated with the Byzantine fortress of Aluston, which was considered indomitable and impregnable for hundreds of years. In the 14th century, power changed in Alushta - this territory went to the Genoese. It is believed that at this time the city, mentioned on maps as Alusta, was experiencing a period of dawn and was one of the largest trading ports on the Black Sea coast. The year 1475 brought changes - Alushta was conquered by the Turks. Unfortunately, the city fortress and many other architectural monuments of previous eras were allowed. The large city, in fact, turned into a small fishing village and, perhaps, would have remained so if Russia had not taken possession of the peninsula in the 18th century. By the way, it was in the Alushta region that the most dramatic events of that war took place; in a battle near the village of Shumy, M.I. Kutuzov was wounded. After the establishment of Russian power, Alushta slowly began to “rise.” Local fertile lands were occupied by vineyards, and winemaking actively developed in the vicinity of the city. After the construction of a road in the 19th century that connected Simferopol and the southern coast of Crimea, Alushta began to develop as a resort. It was immediately chosen by rich industrialists and merchants, as well as numerous scientists. At the beginning of the 20th century, their dachas formed an entire village, which was called the Professor’s Corner. With the advent of Soviet power, it was here that the first sanatoriums and rest houses for peasants and workers were organized. During the Great Patriotic War, Alushta was under occupation. One of the most famous Crimean partisan detachments operated in the vicinity of the city. Of course, the war caused significant damage to the resort infrastructure. But in the 1950s it was restored again. Local sanatoriums were a favorite vacation spot for the party elite. Currently, Alushta continues to develop. New hotels are being built and infrastructure is being actively updated. Its level is almost comparable to the European one.

Mountains of Alushta

Data by year

Since 2014, since the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Federation, the number of residents living in this territory has remained relatively stable, having increased slightly, apparently due to immigrants from other regions of Russia, only in the last 2-3 years. If you look specifically by year, then a person interested in such information will see the following picture:

  • 2014 – 1884473.
  • 2015 – 1901511.
  • 2016 – 1909637.
  • 2017 – 1912950.
  • 2018 – 1912775.

Moreover, if we compare the number of rural and urban residents, we will have to note that their number is approximately equal. The city has barely 5,000 more inhabitants than the countryside. This is quite a small difference.

The most popular beaches of Alushta

Many guidebooks describe the beaches of Alushta as some of the best in Crimea. And there is some slyness in this. Indeed, they have a significant advantage - some of them are sandy, all are clean and well-groomed. However, there are also disadvantages. Firstly, Alushta beaches are not very picturesque. The entire coastline is divided into 50-meter sections by breakwaters that have clearly seen better days. Rusty fittings sticking out here and there, alas, are not uncommon in Alushta. There is not much greenery on the beaches either. Picturesque landscapes flash only in the distance, at a distance of 5-10 kilometers. And one more feature of the beaches in the central part of the city. The embankment in Alushta is designed so that after 4-5 o'clock in the afternoon it hides the sun, and the beaches are in the shade. Sunbathing becomes not very comfortable and even cool. So, which beaches of Alushta are considered the most popular among tourists and what to expect from each of them?

Central Beach

Central beach of Alushta
This small narrow beach is really located in the very center of the city, at the intersection of Parkovaya and Lenina streets. Because of this position, it is extremely popular among tourists - at the height of the season it is very difficult to find a “place in the sun”. Although, it should be noted that you cannot call it clean or beautiful - it will definitely not delight even the most unassuming tourists. The surface is mostly pebbles, in the area of Lenin Street it is replaced by concrete slabs - many vacationers spread towels right on them and sunbathe. The water is usually cloudy. But the entrance to the sea is gentle - safe for swimming with children. True, you should be wary of breakwaters and reinforcement sticking out of them. As for infrastructure, it is well developed. Umbrellas and sun loungers are available for rent, and there are changing cabins. There are cafes, shops, and tour desks nearby. In addition, it is on the Central Beach that most of Alushta’s water activities are concentrated. True, there are no animators here - only rental points. Entrance to Central Beach is free.

Professor's Corner

Professor's Corner is the western district of Alushta (towards Yalta), where sanatoriums and holiday homes are located. Each of them has its own beach. Some are sandy, which cannot but please tourists. Entrance to them is paid, the amount varies everywhere, but, as a rule, not too much - 50-100 rubles. In some cases, it already includes the rental of a sun lounger for the whole day. A careless stretch of land stretches along the coastal strip of the Professor's Corner. It is designed in such a way that after 4-5 o’clock in the afternoon the beaches are in the shade and sunbathing becomes almost impossible. Tourists “move” to the sea or disperse to sanatoriums and hotels. As for the infrastructure, in the Professor's Corner it is up to par. For the convenience of vacationers, changing cabins and showers are equipped. At rental points you can rent not only a sun lounger, but also an umbrella, and sometimes a towel. There is also a lot of entertainment. Although, it should be noted, the beaches of Professor’s Corner are much quieter and calmer than, for example, Central. That is why they are considered ideal for family holidays.

Fishing camp

Beach - Rybachy Stan
Rybachy Stan is a very unusual beach 4 kilometers from the city center. Of course, it cannot be called wild, but as such there is no infrastructure here. And tourists often call it “an amateur” - it’s usually not crowded here. A distinctive feature of Rybachy Stan beach is that the coastal strip in this area is very narrow - even with a slight swell of water, things left on it will certainly be carried out to sea. Vacationers are located right on the piers - from them they dive into the water. Those who are not good swimmers will most likely not like to relax here. There are no umbrellas or sunbeds to speak of - you need to take a towel or mat with you. You can barbecue on the territory of Rybachy Stan, although you will have to bring a disposable grill with you. In addition, you can rent a boat from local residents and go fishing (of course, if the sea is calm). Or just fish from the pier for your own pleasure - you can also rent a fishing rod.

Radisson Hotel Beach

This hotel beach is considered the best in Alushta. True, in order to get there, non-Radisson guests will have to pay a considerable amount - 1000 rubles. It will include the opportunity to use an umbrella, a sun lounger, and also relax in the pool. There is a 50% discount for children. The beach itself is large-pebble. The entrance to the sea is gentle, the water is almost transparent, which is very rare for Alushta. They really take care of cleanliness and order here - there are trash bins around the entire perimeter. Algae is removed every day. The infrastructure is at its best, European level. Modern sunbeds and umbrellas, showers, changing cabins. No hint of the resort's Soviet past. To ensure that guests do not get bored, animators work. Competitions are constantly held, including teams gathering to play volleyball. The local cafe offers national Crimean dishes and a standard set of European snacks.

Children's Beach

Children's Beach, Alushta
Located in the city center, near Naberezhnaya Street, and belongs to the Children's Creativity Center. It itself is small, sandy and pebble. At the same time, surprisingly, it is much cleaner than the neighboring Central. In addition, there are much fewer vacationers here. Although there are also fans near this beach, and there is a lot of infrastructure on Detsky, no matter how surprising this may be, given the location in the city center. There are no rental points for umbrellas and sun loungers - you need to come with your own towel or mat. You can hide from the sun only in the park adjacent to the beach. There is no organized entertainment either. Vacationers often form teams themselves and play volleyball. True, you won’t be able to celebrate victories and defeats - the nearest cafes are on Central. That is why many vacationers bring with them not only towels, but also food, having impromptu picnics right on the seashore or in the park.

Yusupov Palace

Not as “promoted” as Livadia or Vorontsovsky. Maybe because of the modest façade? But the most beautiful and interesting thing is hidden in the courtyard - 12 lions lined up, a fountain with a little mermaid, old trees: an olive tree is more than 600 years old, an oak tree - 200 years old. Lions are a unique symbol of this palace - they guard any entrance on both sides.

Inside you will see Stalin's office, and outside there are three cypress trees planted in honor of the victorious countries in World War II.

In addition to the excursion in the palace, you can rent apartments: “Stalin”, “Yusupov”, “Molotov” - any of them are at your service for good money.

How to get from Simferopol to Alushta

The distance from Simferopol to Alushta is not that great, only 47 kilometers, but taxi drivers are asking sky-high sums to get there. That is why many tourists are interested in the question of how to get to Alushta on their own. In principle, it’s not difficult. Trolleybuses No. 51 and 52 run from Simferopol railway station to the resort. They depart almost every 20-30 minutes, a ticket costs 77 rubles. A trip by minibus will cost a little more, but you will be able to get there faster. Trolleybus No. 54 also runs from Simferopol airport, which will take you to Alushta. True, it leaves once an hour. Ticket price: 77 rubles. For those who don’t want to wait, there are minibuses, the fare for which will cost 100-120 rubles.

The industry is of a service nature; the main income of city residents and residents of other regions of Crimea who come in the summer to earn money is associated with tourists who come to Alushta not only for recreation, but also for treatment in local sanatoriums.

Excursions in Alushta

There are a huge number of attractions in Alushta and its surroundings - from the ancient Aluston fortress to the legendary Natalya Varley stone, standing on which her heroine from the film Prisoner of the Caucasus sang, and the no less legendary Alushta winery. It is not surprising that local travel companies offer a huge number of excursions of varying lengths. Also nearby, just 35 kilometers away, is the beautiful Yalta with its luxurious palaces, house-museums and the legendary Swallow's Nest castle. Excursions there, as a rule, last the whole day and include inspection and visits to several objects at once. You can choose which ones at your discretion; there are quite a lot of programs. A little further, 70 kilometers away, is the legendary hero city of Sevastopol. Despite the rather long and tiring journey, the round trip takes at least four hours, excursions are still held there and there are a lot of people who want to visit them. The program usually includes places of military glory and other interesting sites in the city.

Social and humanitarian sphere[ | ]

On the territory of the city there is a Crimean mountain-forest research station within the structure of the Crimean Federal University named after V.I. Vernadsky. On the territory of Alushta there are 13 educational institutions: general education, music and art schools, vocational schools, consulting centers of the country's national universities. Medical services are provided by a city hospital with 7 departments, 3 clinics, in particular a denture clinic, and a antenatal clinic. There are 3 libraries and 2 cinemas. (Vocational school was renamed into a branch of the Crimean Republican Vocational Educational Institution “Simferopol Higher Vocational School of Restaurant Service and Tourism”)

Hotels in Alushta

The resort infrastructure has been formed in Alushta since the 19th century, so there are a lot of hotels and inns here - from economy to elite class, designed for a wide variety of tourists. It’s worth immediately dispelling the stereotype that Alushta is a typical Soviet resort. Today there are a lot of modern luxury four-star hotels offering European level service and even all-inclusive holidays. This means that housing in Alushta can be found to suit every taste.

Park Hotel Porto Mare

Park Hotel Porto Mare Park Hotel Porto Mare
Park Hotel Porto Mare is considered one of the best not only in the city, but on the entire peninsula. All conditions for a family holiday have been created here: there are playgrounds, a mini-zoo, a spa center, an aqua zone with three swimming pools, and a private beach.

Wellness SPA Hotel MORE

Wellness SPA Hotel MORE offers its guests a variety of spa programs; there is also a well-developed sports infrastructure. On the territory - two beaches and 7 swimming pools - there is definitely a place in the sun for every guest.

Riviera Sunrise Resort&SPA

Hotel, Riviera Sunrise Resort & SPA 4)
Riviera Sunrise Resort & SPA, which was formerly known as Radisson, is famous for the best beach in the city. In addition, the hotel is located in a beautifully restored, but still historical building - it is not surprising that the interior of some rooms is decorated in a classic style typical of the 19th century. Of course, holidays in modern hotels are not cheap. However, in Alushta, even in the central part of the city, you can find a good budget alternative to them - guest houses.

Current statistics

The Republic of Crimea (Crimean Federal District) is part of the Russian Federation. When talking about current statistics regarding the population living on these lands, they take into account not only the territory of the Republic itself, but also the city of Sevastopol, which has a special status.

Rosstat data show that as of January 1, 2021, 1,912,622 citizens live in Crimea (district), while in Sevastopol there are about 500 thousand inhabitants. The total population of the Republic of Crimea is 2,360,000 inhabitants. For comparison, in 2021, 1,912,775 people lived in the Republic of Crimea (about 20 more people in 2021).

Guest houses and resorts

So, for example, guests of “ Volna ” will have to walk no more than 5 minutes to Sovetskaya Square, and the road to the Central Beach will take the same amount. And from the windows of the rooms of the Victoria you can even admire the expanses of the sea. In addition, it is famous for its excellent barbecue area - with gazebos and barbecues. But still, there is something in Alushta that reminds of the distant Soviet past - these are numerous sanatoriums, located mostly in the Professor's Corner. It should be noted that there are few who lingered in that era - most of them have long been repaired and updated. For example, Alushtinskiy Health Resort is in no way inferior to any four-star hotel in its level of infrastructure development and quality of service. By the way, the legendary Blue Wave and Cliff , which have long become symbols of Alushta, have also been modernized - only the buildings themselves remind of the past.

  • Adam Mickiewicz dedicated two “Crimean Sonnets” to Alushta - “Alushta by Day” and “Alushta by Night”, the latter contains the following romantic lines:

The crests of the mountains turn black, the night is dull in the valleys, As if half-asleep, streams are babbling in the darkness; The night song of flowers - the breath of roses in the gardens - floats with soundless music, fragrant[41].

Sights of Alushta

Aluston Fortress

Alushta is a city with a rich history that began in the 6th century. It was then that the Byzantines built a well-fortified fortress on these banks and called it Aluston. For a long time it protected its owners from enemy attacks and was considered impregnable until the 10th century. Unfortunately, not much has survived from the fortress these days - one tower and a part of the wall adjacent to it. However, even this fragment is worthy of attention and is considered one of the main attractions of Alushta.

Valley of Ghosts

Valley of Ghosts
Alushta has many mysterious attractions, the secrets of which even science cannot solve. One of them is the Valley of Ghosts on Mount Demerdzhi. Nature has created dozens of stone sculptures here, reminiscent of people, fairy-tale characters, and animals. As the position of the sun changes, they all “move” and seem to come to life - a fascinating spectacle that you can watch endlessly.

House of merchant Stakheev

If Yalta is a city of palaces, then Alushta is famous for its mansions built in the 19th century. One of the most noticeable and perfectly preserved belonged to the wealthy gold miner Nikolai Stakheev. The house, which today houses the Center for Children and Youth Creativity, is surrounded by a beautiful landscaped park. It is safe to say that many years ago Ivan Shishkin walked along these paths more than once, since Stakheev was his nephew and the artist often visited him.

House of Brownies Museum

The House of Brownies is a magical museum located in the village of Zaprudnoye. Its exhibition consists of brownie figurines. The exhibits can not only be touched or photographed, but also purchased as souvenirs. True, the owners of the museum, the Nikitin family, assure that it is not visitors who choose the brownies, but they choose them - perhaps this is why there are many mysterious moments associated with the exhibition. For example, many people have overexposed photos for no reason.

Museum of Disasters on the Waters

The Museum of Water Disasters is a sad exhibition dedicated to everyone whose lives were taken by the waters of the World Ocean. From the outside it resembles a ship. Inside is the side of a sunken ship, walking through the holds and compartments of which visitors can get acquainted with the ship's paraphernalia. In the largest hall, a documentary film telling about the largest maritime disasters is shown.

Park Crimea in miniature

Park_Krym_v_miniatyure
Guests of Alushta have a unique opportunity to see all the main attractions of the peninsula without leaving the resort. To do this, just look at Crimea Park in miniature. In total, there are 40 objects on the territory that exactly replicate the originals. True, they are all reduced by 12 times. To ensure that guests do not get lost in the variety of castle palaces, they are grouped by city.

Shmelev House-Museum

It cannot be said that I.S. Shmelev was in love with Crimea. But, nevertheless, he lived here for 4 years, from 1918 to 1922, and suffered all the horrors of the revolution. Many of his works were written here. Today, the decor and interiors of the writer’s house have been recreated, and there are exhibitions dedicated to different periods of his work. The house-museum is also interesting from an architectural point of view - it is one of the works of the famous architect A.N. Beketov.

Arch of Alushta

The arch, or as it is also called the rotunda, is the calling card of Alushta. It is she who is depicted on postcards and souvenirs. And local residents often make appointments in this place. The arch was built in the 1950s. It bore the proud inscription “Citizens of the USSR have the right to rest,” which was soon replaced by a more modest one – “Alushta is a resort.” In the 2000s, they tried to replace the slogan with a more original one, but they could not find a suitable one.

Waterpark Almond Grove

Water park Almond Grove
Water park Almond Grove is located right in the center of Alushta. Vacationers are offered numerous slides, from the most harmless to the extreme, 6 swimming pools, a spa area, and terraces for relaxation. For those looking for privacy, there is a VIP zone - a terrace with panoramic views of the sea. All guests will surely find entertainment to their liking in the Almond Grove - from the youngest to the very adults, even those not in the mood for active recreation.

Marble Cave

Marble Cave Caves
are not uncommon in Crimea. However, Mramornaya, located in the vicinity of Alushta, differs from many others primarily in its scale. The length of its passages accessible to tourists is one and a half kilometers. And this is only a small part! The cave consists of marble-type limestone rocks - hence its name. You can talk about its beauty endlessly, but no words will convey all the splendor and grandeur. This is exactly the case when it is better to see once.

Jur-Jur waterfall

Alushta and its surroundings are rich not only in architectural, but also natural attractions. One of them is the beautiful Dzhur-Dzhur waterfall, the most powerful and full-flowing on the peninsula. The rapid streams of water rushing down from a height of 15 meters are truly impressive. In order for guests to appreciate all their beauty, a small observation deck is organized at the top of the waterfall.

Palace-estate of Gagarina

Palace of Princess Gagarina
Alushta is not rich in castles, but there are still some here. One of the most attractive, Gagarina's palace-estate, resembles a medieval knight's fortress. Although it was erected relatively recently, at the beginning of the 20th century. The initiator of the construction was 70-year-old Princess Anastasia Gagarina, who, after the death of her husband, decided to fulfill their dream of a family castle. But, alas, she never managed to live in it.

Valley of Sotera (stone mushrooms)

The Valley of Sotera is somewhat reminiscent of its neighbor, the Valley of Ghosts, with the only difference that its “inhabitants” are not different figures, but exclusively stone mushrooms. It is best to inspect them from afar - this way they look more impressive. In addition, mushrooms should not be touched - even a light touch can destroy the fragile creations of nature. There are many examples of “accidental vandalism” in the valley.

Former dacha Golubka

Dacha Golubka, named after its famous owner, General of the Tsarist Army Golubev, today looks gloomy and inconspicuous. It’s hard to imagine that this building was once one of the most beautiful in Alushta. In addition, it can rightfully be considered one of the objects of the famous “Crimean Royal Route”. Representatives of the Romanov family never lived here, but it was within these walls that the future Emperor Nicholas II met Princess Alice, who is known to Russians as Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.

Fung's fortifications

Medieval fortification of Funa
The fortifications of Funa are an archaeological monument reminiscent of distant times when the Principality of Theodoro was located on the Black Sea coast. In fact, the fortress was his outpost. Unfortunately, little of it has survived - in fact, today they are piles of stones, among which the purpose of the buildings is not even guessed. Although perhaps history buffs will appreciate the ruins.

Temple of All Crimean Saints and Theodore Stratilates

This temple stands out from all other religious buildings on the peninsula. Despite its not too advanced age, the church was built no more than three centuries ago, it is truly unique. After all, its architecture combines Gothic and provincial English traditions. Indeed, the slender, tall building with massive black domes impresses even seasoned travelers. Unfortunately, the interior pre-revolutionary decoration has not been preserved.

Literary and Memorial Museum of S.N. Sergeev-Tsensky

It's hard to believe that a rather modest house, consisting of several verandas and three rooms, belonged to the famous Soviet academician and writer. In fact, he designed it himself, according to his personal tastes and preferences. Just like the garden surrounding the dacha. Today, there is a memorial museum inside where you can get acquainted with the life and work of the writer.

House-Museum of Academician Beketov

A.N. Beketov, a famous Russian academician-architect, loved Crimea. It is not surprising that it was here that he built a house for himself, putting his soul into the project. More about the city of Alushta

Alushta is a mystery of the nature of Crimea!
Alushta has always been valued, first of all, as a health resort with magnificent, healing air; the city is located on the southern coast of Crimea. One of the most beautiful cities on the peninsula greeted me with mountain ranges, shady streets, sandy beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. In my opinion, the main attraction of the resort is nature. There are many beautiful natural monuments worth visiting. Alushta is one of the most popular resorts during the velvet season of Crimea.

Babugan-Yayla mountain range

Babugan-Yayla mountain range!
Not only picturesque, but also the highest massif in the series of famous Crimean mountains. Babugan-Yayla is surrounded by beautiful forests inhabited by a variety of wild animals. The place is very romantic and quiet.

Alushta Reservoir

Alushta Reservoir!
Quite a large reservoir located southeast of Mount Chatyr-Dag. It is the main resource providing Alushta with water. Due to the fact that the reservoir is located at a fairly high altitude above sea level (160 meters), it offers a beautiful view of all the splendor of the Alushta Valley.

Often, tourists who come to Alushta begin their sightseeing from this wonderful place.

Dolphinarium in Partenit

Who among us doesn't love dolphins? These amazing creatures have always amazed people with their intelligence and friendliness.

The Dolphinarium in Partenit is the pride of the Big Alushta region. It is located on the territory, in an indoor swimming pool.

During the forty-five-minute performance, dolphins dance and perform a variety of tricks. After the performance, you or your child will be able to literally make their dream come true - ride a dolphin.

Church-lighthouse of St. Nicholas

Church of St. Nicholas!
Architecture lovers will also find a lot of interesting things at this resort. One of the most beautiful buildings is this temple, the construction of which lasted two years - from 2004 to 2006.

This is not only one of the newest, but also the highest temples in Crimea, its height is 54 meters. Located near the village of Malorechenskoye, about a fifteen-minute walk from it.

The structure was erected in memory of the dead and living sailors and fishermen, in honor of the patron saint of the latter, Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The temple, which symbolizes unity, is somewhat reminiscent of the bow of a ship pointing into the distance. The theme of the sea also prevails on the frescoes of the building.

Gazebo Vetrov

Gazebo of the Winds!
This romantic place is located on the territory of the most beautiful Crimean nature reserve, on the Gurzuf yayla of Mount Roman-Kosh, on the very edge of the cliff. The gazebo was built in early 1956, presented in the form of a stone column with a diameter of four meters, the floor is decorated with a mosaic that depicts the Wind Rose.

The gazebo is painted bright white and is clearly visible from the surrounding towns and villages. The building itself also offers a wonderful view. A great place for declarations of love and romantic meetings.

Holidays at sea, what could be more wonderful?

Geography[ | ]

Climate[ | ]

The city is located in the Crimean sub-Mediterranean ecoregion, so the climate of Alushta is subtropical Mediterranean type. Very similar in temperature to the climate of Yalta from April to September, but slightly colder (0.5 °C on average) from October to March. The Alushta resort has 2 passes (Kebit-Bogaz and Angarsk Pass), thanks to which air masses constantly move from the plains of the peninsula to the sea and back. In this regard, the climate is characterized by hot summers and mild winters, as well as comparative dryness, with most precipitation falling from November to March. Average air humidity is 72%.

The average temperature of the coldest month, January, is +4.1 °C, and the warmest month, August, is +26.2 °C. The total duration of sunshine is 2321 hours per year. The water temperature, even in the coldest period, does not drop below +8 °C. Swimming season is from May to October. During these months, the water temperature is not lower than +17 °C. The warmest sea occurs from July to September - when the water temperature reaches +22...+27 °C. In summer, storms are rare and short-lived.

Despite the slight difference with Yalta in average temperature, in winter in Alushta a frost of −18.3 °C was recorded (for the entire period of observation) (while in Yalta it was never below −12.3 °C) , and the minimum temperature per year is on average 3 °C lower (the height of the passes is only 590-752 meters, and the height of the mountains in Yalta is almost 750 meters higher, which gives such a difference), that is, according to the USDA frost resistance zone, Alushta is kept only in zone 8b. As a result, such indicators are sufficient for the growth of Trachycarpus fortunena palms without shelter, but are dangerous for Washingtonia filamentosa and Washingtonia robusta palms, which winter without problems in Yalta and Sochi.

The average annual wind speed in Alushta is 4 m/s (and in Yalta 2 m/s) - this is why the stable expression was formed that “it feels 3 degrees colder in winter in Alushta than in Yalta.”

Abundance of sun, fresh air, warm sea and picturesque mountains - these are the important components that make Alushta an excellent climatic resort.
The famous doctor Botkin wrote: “Alushta is healthier than Yalta, where during the summer heat the air is continuously renewed by drafts through the mountain passes along the sides of Chatyr-Dag.” Climate of Alushta
