The city is located 70 kilometers from the capital. About 100 thousand inhabitants live here. Sergiev Posad captivates travelers with its peaceful atmosphere. Here you can gain strength, cheer up, and make the right decision.

Here is the pearl of Russian Orthodoxy - the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius complex. But even if you bypass the monastery, there are many other, no less interesting attractions.

Every Russian should visit here at least once and touch the secret that these holy lands keep.

History of the city of Sergiev Posad

The city is named after the saint known as Sergius of Radonezh. He founded a monastery. The date of creation of the monastery is said to be 1345. The shrine became famous throughout Rus'. Dmitry Donskoy came here for a blessing before the great Battle of Kulikovo.

Over time, a settlement began to form around the monastery. The following points are considered important dates in the history of the existence of Sergiev Posad:

  1. 1408 The first monastery was burned by Mongol-Tatar nomads who captured Rus'.
  2. 1411 A new monastery was built. From that time on, the appearance of the city began to take shape. Slobodas arose. Already at that time there were such settlements as Pushkarskaya, Ikonnaya and others.
  3. 1422 The first stone temple was erected. Later, the founder, Sergei of Radonezh, was buried within its walls. The monastery continued its existence in subsequent centuries, receiving new novices and noble guests who came for blessings.
  4. 1744 The monastery gained importance. He was given the status of Lavra.
  5. 1782 The independent history of the city of Sergiev Posad begins. Residents were engaged in trade and served pilgrims who flocked to the monastery in large numbers.
  6. 1814 The first theological academy opened in the city. The number of clergy increased during these years. The bulk of the population were people close to the church.
  7. 1920 The monastery has been converted into a museum. It still matters to people. But the Soviet government condemns religious views.
  8. 1930 The city is named Zagorsk. In this way, the authorities are trying to reduce citizens’ interest in the shrine.
  9. 1991 The settlement is returned to its former name. The monastery is being revived. People all over the world are once again interested in holy places.

Today Sergiev Posad is a significant place for pilgrims. There are over 250 historical and cultural monuments located in the city. The tourism infrastructure is actively developing.

It is better to come here for 2-3 days. Then you will be able to get acquainted with all the significant sights. Mostly pilgrims and those interested in religious architectural monuments come here.

Sights of Sergiev Posad

The main attraction, the pearl of the city, is the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. Thanks to her, Sergiev Posad was formed. Trinity-Sergius Lavra is an architectural ensemble consisting of temples, churches, cathedrals.

The Trinity Cathedral is noteworthy. This is a 15th century monument. Within its walls is an iconostasis, on which Andrei Rublev, a famous Russian icon painter, worked.

Visitors examine the Holy Spiritual Church, a 5-tier bell tower, the Temple of Sergius of Radonezh and other objects located on the territory of the complex.

According to legend, two monks came here in the 14th century: Bartholomew and Stephen. They founded a monastery, which marked the beginning of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

The Assumption Cathedral also deserves attention. This is a monument from the mid-16th century. In general, the Trinity-Sergius Lavra is located in the very center of the city. It is impossible to pass by her. It serves as a monastery.

Buildings from the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries have been preserved on the territory of the complex. About 200 monks live within the walls of the monastery.

Excursions are organized for visitors every day. The accompanying person introduces you to the iconic sights and life of the monks.

In addition to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, there are other attractions in the city that deserve special attention. First of all, these are the Pyatnitsky well, the monument to Sergei of Radonezh and museum institutions.

Visit the Skitskie Prudy park. In summer there is a skate zone, children's playgrounds and carousels.

If you want to admire the Trinity-Sergius Lavra from above, go to Pancake Mountain. From here you can see the immediate surroundings. The hill received its name at the end of the 19th century. Pancakes were baked here, which were enjoyed not only by visiting pilgrims, but also by local residents.

If time permits, explore the following attractions:

  • Park of Wonders:
  • Husky House;
  • Museum of the Moscow Theological Academy;
  • Monument to “Victims of the Years of Persecution and Repression”;
  • Source of St. Savva of Storozhevsky.

Sergiev Posad is full of attractions. It is impossible to study it completely even in a few days. Picturesque views and a peaceful environment encourage leisurely walks and exploring interesting sites.

Map of Sergiev Posad with houses

Modern residential areas are located near the historical center of the city. The most prestigious are:

  • Archimedes;
  • Grand Park;
  • Uglich;
  • Klementyevsky;
  • Posad-Premier.

These are beautiful residential complexes with developed infrastructure, good roads and high-rise buildings, which can be seen on the map of Sergiev Posad with house numbers.

For tourists, the city center with its main attraction is more attractive. People come here from all over the country and other states who want to touch the holy relics of Sergius of Radonezh. Here are the burial places of representatives of the Godunov family, handwritten chronicles, as well as treasures in the form of royal offerings to the monastery.

In addition to the Lavra, local residents recommend visiting other attractions, the location of which can be found on a detailed map of Sergiev Posad. Among the memorable places:

  • Vvedenskaya Church;
  • Horse yard;
  • Pyatnitskoye Compound;
  • Toy Museum;
  • Soviet square;
  • Gremyachiy Klyuch waterfall;
  • City fountain;
  • Monument to Peter and Fevronia.

The historical monuments of Sergiev Posad reach 500 years old; in one city you can see a variety of architectural styles and plunge into different periods of Russian history.

City museums

If you visit Sergiev Posad on your own, don't miss out on the unusual Toy Museum. Its exhibition includes more than 150 thousand of a wide variety of items created by craftsmen for the enjoyment of children. There are toys from both foreign and domestic masters. Sergiev Posad is even known in the world as the “Capital of the Kingdom of Toys”. Therefore, you can take children on the trip too. They won't be bored.

Legend has it that toys were made on the territory of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra 200 years ago. Local residents sold them to pilgrims who arrived to visit the monastery.

Be sure to check out the Museum of Soviet Childhood. Here are collected toys and board games that replaced gadgets for children in the last century. Adults speak highly of the visit. They claim that it is as if they were momentarily transported back to their childhood.

Visit the Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve. It was founded 100 years ago, and its fund includes over 100 thousand storage units. There are icons, silver utensils, religious objects, and paintings by famous painters.

The Horse Yard is popular. This is also a museum. Previously, the building housed a stable. Now there are several regular exhibitions within the walls of the Horse Yard. One of them is dedicated to the Russian nesting doll. Other exhibitions tell about life in the Russian village and about applied art. Real masterpieces created by the hands of folk craftsmen are exhibited here.

The Museum of Peasant Life "Once Upon a Time" belongs to V. Bagrov. A local artist has put together a unique collection. You can admire homespun clothes made in the last century, clay and wooden household items, kitchen utensils, and a collection of semi-precious stones.

In the house of Pavel Florensky, who is called the Russian Leonardo de Vinci, the furnishings that existed during the life of the priest, scientist, and painter have been preserved. There is a piano here. The brilliant inventor made it with his own hands. He was shot by the Bolsheviks. You can walk around Sergiev Posad all day and discover more and more new sights. We have listed only the most popular among tourists, but the list of religious monuments, museums, and exhibitions does not end there.

The city is shitty. Well, it’s just paradise to live in this rotten place. Are you serious??? Of course the guests came and left, you are beautiful... And we are already thinking about moving, and this is after only 5 (!!) months. There is nothing except the laurel. Prices are crazy, salaries are low. You can't get to Moscow. Soon we’ll sit on our suitcases and forget it like a bad dream.

An ideal place for remote freelance and remote work in central Russia. Not a wilderness, but not a faceless concrete castle either. It has a history, its own identity. In the summer it’s like being in paradise. If you want, go to the hermitage ponds park on a bike, or along the Golden Ring by car. For some reason they write about the lack of culture of the residents - this is an absolute lie. I have been to most regions of Russia and have the right to judge. The descendants of peasants from the Kostroma and Ivanovo regions live here, and for the most part they are calm people, or people with a penchant for spirituality are moving here. Plus there is still a lot of research since the Soviet era, and this also leaves a positive imprint on the composition of the population.

I love your city, since childhood I’ve vacationed with my sister in Semkhoz, and my parents and I went on foot to Zagorsk, back then, now I love coming here alone, or with my husband, we dream of buying an apartment here!

Olga

I like the architecture, because in the concept of building the Russian Vatican they try to give the city a beautiful appearance and nature (many lakes and rivers, beautiful vegetation). But I really don’t like the people. Very often there are aggressive, narrow-minded, boring, uncultured people. Crime does not sleep either , fraud. If it were possible to replace the people for the development of tourism, it would be an ideal place.

I live in the city of Sergiev Posad and would like to share my impressions about it with you! To begin with, our city is considered the center of Orthodoxy in Russia, so the fact that hundreds of tourists come here every summer is not surprising! Very beautiful church buildings attract the attention of even those who have lived here for a long time. Our city is clean, calm, with a measured life. There is everything you need for a comfortable stay - many supermarkets, shopping centers, hospitals, hotels, entertainment centers, swimming pools, skating rinks and much more! I would definitely recommend our city both for visiting tourists and for living for those who are looking for the city of their dreams.

Advantages:

  • A wonderful way to spend leisure time.

Flaws:

  • not detected;

I live in Sergiev Posad, so I would like to tell you how and where you can relax in the city, what places are worth visiting. The most important place in our city, of course, is considered to be the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius; this is one of the holiest places in Russia and it definitely needs to be visited. The Lavra has an organized trade in souvenirs; there’s just so much there; you won’t leave without some trinket) The second place for a mandatory visit, I think, is Gremyachiy Klyuch, which is located in the Sergiev Posad area. This is a place of extraordinary beauty, where you really relax not only with your soul, but also with your body) It’s true that it’s better to get there in the summer or in dry weather, since the roads there are not so hot, but, I repeat, you won’t regret getting there! Another popular place for us is Lake Torbeevo. True, I don’t understand why (especially Muscovites) are attracted to this place. The water there is simply terrible, it’s scary to climb in! True, discos are held there, well, hurray, everyone is delighted. By the way, there are plenty of all kinds of discos, restaurants and coffee in the city, so young people have a place to turn around) Also in the city you can stroll through museums, these are the “Horse Yard”, “Lavra”, “Museum of Toys” - these, in my opinion, are the main ones museums of the city, although there are others. Another museum is located in the village of Abramtsevo, which is called that way. All I can say about the hotels is that they are all very well decorated in appearance) That’s probably all I wanted to talk about. Come and relax!

Natalia

I completely agree with the previous negative reviews, if you are not a strongly religious person, it is extremely difficult to do anything, live and earn money here, I also live in Severny, except for expensive high-rise buildings and shops there is almost nothing, even my child goes to primary school in which I went to 30 years ago, I still find it hard to believe, since then little has changed at the school except painting, there are no green areas for walking with children, I would like at least some kind of public garden, but I’m already silent about the park. I immediately remembered that my husband drives in circles around high-rise buildings to park his car at night, sometimes it takes half an hour, but for Orthodox people this is a very significant city, so you decide for yourself whether to live or not...

KEY

https://eva.ru/travel/messages-1921013.htm

Hello, I live in the Northern Village, there is a lot of new construction, many high-rise buildings, new shops are opening, minibuses run every 5 minutes, but... about the city itself... I was born in it, but lately I have not been entirely happy with it. MAYBE it’s because I had a child and there’s simply nowhere to go for a walk, there are catastrophically few green areas in the city, I have something to compare with, I lived in Moscow for a year and a half, although it’s dirty, but there are so many parks, there’s no such outlet for me here. I won’t tell the story of the old park that was turned into a parking lot for priests.

IMHO if you are moving here, it is better to live in a private house.

Behind the Lavra, of course, housing is insanely expensive. Rabochka - there are only old houses and, accordingly, the contingent is the same, a good option for parents. Uglich...everyone who lives in Uglich praises it very much and doesn’t want to move. There are good landscaping of the courtyards, and benches and playgrounds, and even trash cans here and there)). Everything here (in the North) is only at the stage of development. Sincerely, Elena.

General impression

Sergiev Posad is a quiet small town located in the northeast of the Moscow region. It got its name thanks to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra located here. Sergiev Posad is the unofficial spiritual and cultural center of the region. Among other things, the city is home to many industrial enterprises, the most popular of which is a machine-building plant. The environment in the city, of course, suffers greatly. And yet, it is cozy and homely warm.

Attitude towards foreigners

Local residents are quite welcoming to visitors. In most cases, they will help in any way they can!

Impression from the local people

Residents of Sergiev Posad, for the most part, are kind and sympathetic people. Naturally, it is also possible to encounter rudeness and impudence here, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Climate

The climate in Sergiev Posad is typical for the local latitudes. Warm, comfortable summer (average July temperature +20°C). Winters are mild, snowy, and severe frosts are rare (the average January temperature is -10°C). The snow finally melts in April and sunny spring begins, sometimes windy. In autumn there are often long rains.

Education (kindergartens, schools, universities, conferences)

For the young residents of Sergievo Posad, there are 72 municipal kindergartens, many of which are specialized. There are about 35 secondary schools. The queue for kindergartens and schools is electronic. There is a shortage of places, but not critical. Higher education can be obtained at 12 universities, these include Moscow branches and their own institutes. Young people have a good choice of education. Many people go to study in Moscow; after all, it is more prestigious there and there are more opportunities.

Quality of medicine (quality and cost)

In Sergiev Posad there are several city clinics, three regional hospitals, there is also a tuberculosis clinic and a psychiatric hospital. There are a lot of private clinics and various medical centers. In general, for serious illnesses, locals prefer to resort to paid services. It’s understandable, people are tired of rudeness and ignorance in government medical institutions.

Language (learning the local language and communicating with locals)

The local population speaks, works and studies in Russian.

Transport (car accessibility, quality of roads, level of driving, cost of gasoline, public transport)

The quality of roads in Sergiev Posad is not much different from other cities near Moscow. Starting from the city center and closer to the outskirts, potholes and cracks appear on the roads, and no one is in a hurry to repair them. And the endless traffic jam leaving the city has been haunting all local motorists working in the capital for many years. Fortunately, there are no problems with rail transport. Electric trains run regularly and without delays. Public services also include regular buses and minibuses. Gasoline, as everywhere else, is expensive (38.6 rubles per liter of 92).

Prices (cost of living, food, entertainment)

Prices in Sergiev Posad are high, and for everyday products they are generally growing constantly. We have little entertainment. Mainly cafes, one recreation park, several sports centers. Young people have nowhere to go.

Jobs (difficulty of finding, salary level)

Sergiev Posad is a large industrial center, there is plenty of work here. There is a workplace for everyone who comes here. Large plants, meat and bakery plants, factories provide not only a labor base, but also good income. Average salaries in the city are 20 thousand rubles. excluding bonuses. In addition to industry, we have many shopping centers where vacancies for salespeople, loaders, cleaners, and drivers are always open. But still, despite all the abundance of jobs, the local population continues to work in the capital. Who wants to receive 20 thousand rubles if you can get 60-70 thousand rubles for the same position, for example, a salesperson. So, day after day, enduring painful traffic jams, a good part of the residents of our glorious town are wandering around to earn money in a large metropolis.

Housing (cost, availability, rent, purchase)

Most of the population of Sergiev Posad lives in residential areas. A square meter of housing here costs from 50 thousand rubles. In the area of 76 kilometers, you can buy a dacha for 3 million rubles. In the Fabrichka area, housing will cost about 56 thousand rubles. per sq. meter. But in the Grazhdanki area, which is located behind the cemetery, housing is very cheap. For 2 million rubles. Here you can buy a decent two-room apartment with a good repair. But even with such low prices, sales in Grazhdanka are not going well.

Crime

The crime rate in Sergiev Posad has always been the lowest in the region. Now, unfortunately, cases of robbery and vandalism have increased. This may be due to the lack of recreational facilities for young people. More terrible criminal events bypass our town.

Women men (for dating)

The women here are very pretty, and serious at that. They meet more to create a family, not love affairs. Men, I don’t particularly judge this, but they are also normal and adequate.

Internet (availability, cost)

Internet is provided by providers Divo, Bitres Telecom, KSIT, OTS. The most accessible and inexpensive Divo Internet, but recently its quality is rapidly approaching zero, there is no Internet for several days. In this regard, today Rostelecom is beginning to gain popularity among residents.

Regional economy (crisis, inflation)

The city's economy is stable. Rich industrial enterprises, shopping arcades, jobs, stable income. Our people are far from poverty.

Angela Moiseeva

Sergiev Posad is, first of all, a Lavra dedicated to Sergei of Radonezh. The Lavra is very beautiful, its temples are diverse and unique! They are built in different architectural styles and are not alike! There are more than fifty buildings and structures located on the territory of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. The most important one is the Assumption Cathedral, which was built by order of Ivan the Terrible in 1559–1585. This is the largest temple of the Trinity Monastery. But Sergiev Posad is famous not only for the Trinity - Sergius Lavra. Here is the Chernigov monastery. Unfortunately, not all young locals can tell you how to get there. But you can also admire this cathedral! There is peace and quiet there. There is a pond nearby where you can feed the ducks.

I wouldn’t live in this city, there are no rivers, there is no historical part as such, the avenue is always stuck in traffic jams (there are no detour streets), especially on weekends in the summer months. They made the Lavra into a walk-through yard, not a single park, nowhere to rest with a child, Uglich, in my opinion, is highly urbanized and isolated from the center. Plus, the proximity of Radon (the largest nuclear dump in the Moscow region) and Zagorsk-6 (the development of bacteriological weapons) make the city extremely “attractive” for potential movers. If we consider Yaroslavka, then I would not recommend going further than Pushkino.

  • traffic jams in the city
  • dead roads
  • narrow streets adjacent to the center

I had the opportunity to live in this glorious Russian city - Sergiev Posad. I went here on an excursion as a schoolboy, but it did not arouse much interest. Only McDonald's made me happy; it wasn't in Elektrostal at that time.

So, I'll start with the good. The most important and famous thing in Zagorsk is the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. This is a large complex with a temple and a monastery and a gigantic surrounding area. You can come in and take photos inside for free. However, if you want to film a short report, you need to buy a permit. Full of foreign tourists from China. Japan and other countries. A little further behind the Lavra there is the largest hotel “Zagorsk” with European quality of service and rooms from 1000 rubles. By the way. The food is also good.

If you drive to the Farm area, you will come across another ancient red brick monastery. Unfortunately. I don't remember the name.

Behind Posad there is a magnificent ski resort with ski lifts. And at the Voskhod holiday home you can ride rubber tubes for a nominal fee.

If we consider the negative aspects, then I would include traffic jams in the city center. This is due to the passage of summer residents and transit vehicles. And the lack of parking is sometimes infuriating. The train station is a bottleneck in the city, connecting two parts of the settlement. Sometimes at a crossing you wait for 30-40 minutes to get to another area.

Sergiev Posad is a city designated by God himself. There is the Trinity-Sergiva Lavra, and countless monasteries and monastery courtyards. Among them is the oldest monastery of Spaso-Vifansky, which is located on the banks of the ponds. This is a truly blissful place. In this place, everyone who is thirsty can sit and rest, experience and comprehend with their own eyes the wonders of the past and present, and sip on the subtle energy of a certain force, which is characteristic only of certain natural places in the world. Sergiev Posad is located in such a way that it is convenient to get acquainted with the abundant attractions of the Golden Ring area directly from it. I would advise spending the day exploring the monastery, and in the evening heading further north, to Pereslavl, where the city is quieter, prices are low, and everything is somehow conducive to a night's rest.

Well, it’s truly a blessing to live in this run-down Sergiev Posad! Puddles measuring 3x5, broken sidewalks, dirty streets and courtyards, and it’s scary to go into the entrances! There are not enough kindergartens, the same schools, and to buy clothes or food, the prices are the same as in Moscow stores, sports sections and clubs are paid. A quarter of the population are visitors from neighboring regions and “Asians”. The average salary is 15 thousand rubles. “Congratulations to you” if you are a resident of Sergiev Posad, and not a village from the Kursk region.

Hi all!

Today I would like to write a short review about one amazing place that I have visited several times. And I want to go there again and again. This place is called the city of Sergiev Posad. The city, which in turn is home to the Sergiev Posad Lavra, founded by Sergius of Radonezh in 1337. The Lavra is in turn the residence of Moscow Patriarch Kirill.

The city itself, by the way, is part of the Golden Ring of Russia. And this is not surprising. Many historical events are associated with this place, as with many places near Moscow. Sergiev Posad, the city is very clean, neat, small, but cozy.

It is located near Moscow, about 50 km. It takes about an hour to travel by train from Yaroslavsky Station, or you can also get there by bus, which departs from VDNKh.

From the station to the Lavra it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk. In general, church domes can be seen from afar, so finding the Holy Monastery will not be difficult.

On the territory of the Lavra there are many beautiful buildings, all of which, without exception, are monuments of architecture and history. The oldest building is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, built in 1422-1423, in which the relics of St. Sergius rest. In addition to it, there is another building from the 15th century, this is the church in honor of the Descent of the Holy Spirits on the Apostles, built in 1476-1477.

In addition to these buildings, there are buildings from the 16th century. Like, for example, the Assumption Cathedral, built by Ivan the Terrible in 1559-1585. By the way, Peter the Great hid in it from the Streltsy during the Streltsy revolt in 1686. Next to this cathedral is the tomb of the Godunovs.

In total, on the territory of the Lavra there are about two dozen buildings from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. I won’t list them all. It's better to come and see everything for yourself. Moreover, entry is free everywhere.

So, you are welcome!

That's all. Good luck to all!
