Story
City since 2000, formerly the village of Novostroika
near the city of Krasnozavodsk (and under its administrative subordination), founded in 1948 for the construction of a testing center for rocket and space technology.
Most of the residents of Novostroika took part in the creation and launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, the spacecraft on which Yuri Gagarin made the first flight into space in history. But before testing began, a test site had to be built. This location had special requirements: the site must be located 100 km from Moscow, in a wooded, ravine area with a river channel for discharging waste substances. Representatives of the state commission chose the Zagorsk region.
The city received its name in honor of the legendary warrior Alexander Peresvet, hero of the Battle of Kulikovo.
In 2006–2019, it was the center of the urban settlement of Peresvet, Sergiev Posad municipal district.
Sport
Thanks to the unique landscape (elevation differences) in winter, Peresvet is a good place for skiing. There is a ski slope in the city and its surroundings, where cross-country skiing competitions are held annually. All-Russian level sledding competitions are also held in Peresvet.
In 2014, the stadium and ski slope underwent significant reconstruction. The Peresvet universal sports complex was put into operation, the ski school named after Alexander Legkov, a sports training base, and the ski track received the necessary certificates for holding official sporting events.
In November 2015, a biathlon complex equipped with modern equipment opened on the basis of the Peresvet park hotel; The ski slope is equipped with lighting fixtures and is accessible for skiing at night. Part of the track has been paved, which allows it to be used in the summer for training on roller skis. There is also an all-season ice arena on the territory of the park hotel.
In the summer, Peresvet hosts competitions in sports tourism and orienteering.
The city has a swimming pool "Chaika".
