Who is a holiday on the Sea of Japan suitable for?

Relaxing on the shores of the Sea of Japan is quite exotic for most Russians. Getting here is not easy, so among other tourists you are likely to meet lovers of active recreation. From the point of view of tourism, Primorsky Krai is a poorly developed territory, but it has enormous potential. There are stunning landscapes, wild nature, a beautiful sea, and a variety of flora and fauna. But it is often difficult to get to local attractions - the infrastructure is not developed. It is also impossible not to note the high cost of local holidays. It is often more expensive to relax in the Primorsky Territory than at classic southern resorts.

However, all these difficulties do not stop those who are ready to discover the Far Eastern sea coast.

So where do tourists mostly go here?

Ussuriysk Airport

Ussuriysk does not have its own airport. The nearest international airport is in Vladivostok. The distance from Ussuriysk to the airfield is 60 km. Type of airport: jointly based: in addition to civil aircraft, military aviation is serviced here. Operating hours: 24 hours a day.

The airport serves aircraft of Russian and foreign airlines: Aeroflot, Russia, Ural Airlines, Aurora, Air Philip, China Express Airlines. Popular destinations of regular and charter flights: Hong Kong, Moscow, Seoul, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg. Annual passenger traffic is more than 2.6 million people.

When to go

In the south, the Sea of Japan is located in the subtropical zone with a comfortable warm climate. But despite the fact that the Russian part is located at the latitude of the Caucasus and the Lower Volga, it is quite cold here, especially when the Siberian anticyclone dominates in winter. Then there are not only frosts (in some places down to -40˚C), but also hurricanes that cause storms. In winter, the coastal zone of the Sea of Japan on the Russian side freezes. During the winter period, the ice breaks up several times, the wind carries ice floes into the open sea, and ice accumulates in bays and makes navigation difficult in winter.

In summer, the air and water do not warm up for a long time; nebula and low clouds can be seen above the water. But in August and early autumn, warmth prevails: at times the air temperature warms up to +30˚С. In the summer in the south of Primorye you can swim, but it often happens that the weather favorable for relaxation is replaced by typhoons (tropical cyclones).

The best time for a holiday on the Far Eastern coast is July and August. At this time, the water and air temperatures reach their maximum levels: about +20°C on land and slightly lower in the ocean. Summer in Primorye is quite short and foggy, especially in the southern regions - the humidity there is much higher.

Unique beach in Glass Bay

On the western shore of the Ussuri Bay there is another very interesting bay - Steklyannaya. And it bears this name for a reason. Several decades ago it was turned into a huge glass dump. Thousands of broken bottles of beer, wine, vodka and other alcoholic drinks covered almost the entire area of this tiny cove in a thick layer.

But nature, with this specific example of irresponsible human behavior, once again reminded the inhabitants of the Earth who is the rightful owner here. In just a couple of decades, the sea waves sharpened and polished the glass to the state of perfectly smooth pebbles.

Today, the Glass Bay beach sparkles in the sun with all the colors of the rainbow. And now you can walk on it barefoot, without any fear of cutting yourself on the sharp edges of the glass. After all, they are no longer here. No one! The sea elements eliminated absolutely all traces of human recklessness.

It is curious that today the so-called “Glass” beach is protected by the state as a valuable natural monument. Both locals and travelers from other countries regularly come here to relax and take a series of stunningly lively and vibrant photographs.

The city shows the highest population growth dynamics

The population of the Ussuri urban district is approaching 200 thousand people. If the growth dynamics continue, then by the end of 2021 or at the beginning of 2020, for the first time in the history of Ussuriysk, the 200 thousand bar will be passed. But the main increase is provided by economic migration. And economic development experts warn that while the milestone is close, the city district may not cross it. Growth resources have been exhausted; the city has nothing to offer to the potential workforce.

“We should hold our position”

In the Ussuri urban district over the past two years, natural population growth amounted to 421 people, migration - 2,709. Since 2011, the population of the urban district has increased by almost 14 thousand people, as of January 1, 2021, reaching almost 197.9 thousand. With such growth rates, it is possible that by the end of 2021 or at the beginning of 2020, a total of 200 thousand people will live in the city and region. Historical figure. Even in the most prosperous Soviet times in 1990, the population of the city and region did not exceed 192.4 thousand people.

“In 2012, the natural decline in the Ussuri urban district was 36 people,” says an expert in the field of economic development who wished to remain anonymous. — In 2013, the number of births exceeded the number of deaths. The peak of this indicator was reached in 2015. Then this difference reached almost 400 people. And in the last two years there has been a decline again. At the end of 2017, the positive balance amounted to 114 people.

Every year fewer and fewer people die in Ussuriysk. Over the past ten years, almost 600 fewer people have died. Life expectancy is increasing, and the average age of the population due to constantly arriving military personnel and youth is 37 years.

But they also give birth less. In 2015, the number of newborns was 2,646 compared to 2,201 in 2011. And now we are seeing a decline again. Last year only 2,351 people were born.

This is a regional trend. Against the background of a significant decrease in the number of births in Primorye, natural population growth decreased by one and a half times. The number of women capable of bearing children is declining. And those who could have children have ceased to show interest in this.

The population of Ussuriysk is growing due to migration. But this opportunity for growth is gradually disappearing. Yes, a lot of people come here. But much more people were leaving. In 2017, 6.5 thousand more people left the urban district than in 2007. And the migration increase last year was only 914 people compared to 3,215 in 2012.

Vladivostok, Artyom, Ussuriysk are territories of active development. Therefore, people flock to these cities, go where there is work. And in the villages there is a huge outflow of population. Cities are “washing out” villages. This also applies to the Ussuri urban district. If the population of Ussuriysk itself increased by 8.5 thousand people compared to 1990, exceeding 172 thousand, then the number of villagers decreased by almost 5 thousand, falling below 26 thousand.

To prevent degradation, it is necessary to develop industrial production. Many businesses have died, and in return, with the exception of a few companies, there is nothing. Moreover, they are all old; nothing new has appeared in recent years. The situation on the labor market is deteriorating, and small businesses, trade and construction are not able to offer a sufficient number of jobs.

— I don’t believe that the population of Ussuriysk will reach 200 thousand. We would like to maintain our current positions,” says the specialist.

"Dead city"

Ussuriysk is becoming a “dead city,” says Tamara Gershengoren, a specialist with 45 years of experience, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Academician of the International Academy of Agrarian Education:

— Workers of working age, and they make up over 50% of the city’s population, work their butts off. Only budget organizations have a 40-hour work week. More than 80% of the working population, including young people, work in private business. What is private business? This is at least a 60-hour work week, the absence of any social guarantees, “gray” wage schemes, penalties for nothing, etc. There are organizations where a 13-hour working day is established and there is no toilet a room for employees - this is where the owners save money.

In Ussuriysk, city-forming enterprises that had a sufficient number of jobs and generated significant tax revenues to the municipal treasury were liquidated. Primorskaya Soya LLC is now a small fraction of the plant that was famous throughout the country. A leather and shoe factory, a pasta factory, a municipal food processing plant, a sugar factory, a confectionery factory, a machine-building plant, etc. were liquidated.

A significant reduction in the number of students in the city’s universities indicates that young people from the Ussuriysk urban district are leaving not only for Vladivostok, but also for the central cities of Russia, because they do not see themselves in Ussuriysk. And youth are the future labor resources.

At the same time, migration processes are intensifying: the territory of the UGO is populated by citizens of China and the CIS countries, in some cases creating competition for the working population. Until 2021, I went on expeditions to the agricultural enterprises of the region and I can state with full responsibility that almost only pensioners remained in the villages. Foreign citizens, who are now owners of land, practically do not use the villagers; mainly their compatriots (Chinese, Koreans) work.

From this we can form the opinion that if the UGO population grows by 2021, it will not be at the expense of its indigenous population.

In order for the UGO to preserve and increase the population born and raised here, it is necessary to make serious efforts: to revive a strong material and technical base in industry and agriculture, to review the procedure and conditions of work at commercial enterprises of private business, to open joint ventures with the participation of foreign investment, to improve youth policy, etc.

However, in the region as a whole the situation is even more complex. The population of the Far East is steadily declining, according to data from the Federal State Statistics Service for the last two years. A negative trend is typical for all Far Eastern regions. The exception was the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where the number of permanent residents as of January 1, 2021 increased by 1 thousand people compared to the same period in 2021. But this is based on estimates. What will happen in reality is still unknown. And in 2021, everything was bad with demographics there too. The migration outflow in this republic was 43 people for every 10 thousand people.

The trend towards a constant decrease in population has not spared the Primorsky Territory, as follows from the information provided by the deputy head of the department of state statistics in Vladivostok (Ussuriysk) Vladimir Ryazhko. Over the past two years, the number of residents of the region has decreased by almost 16 thousand people, reaching a little more than 1 million 913 thousand people.

A decrease in the number of residents is observed almost everywhere in all municipalities. During this time, natural increase (the ratio of births to deaths) was recorded only in Vladivostok (by 19 people), Fokino (by 18 people) and Pogranichny (by 16 people). Migration growth (ratio of arrivals to those leaving the territory) - in Artyom (by 1,769 people), Nadezhdinsky district (by 403 people), Partizansk (by 222 people) and Lazovsky district (by 116 people).
