Where to eat in Tula: coffee shops, cafes, restaurants through the eyes of a tourist

As a rule, before traveling to a city as a tourist, I look through reviews of cafes and restaurants to identify a few interesting ones that are worth visiting. In tourist cities there are often unusual restaurants with interesting interiors and themes. In Tula the situation is somewhat different, so we chose places for snacks and a full dinner on the go, based on the situation. I want to tell you about places I have personally tested in Tula where you can eat or just drink coffee.

Respectable restaurants

The calling card of the city is its historical sights and ancient buildings. It is not surprising that city guests are certainly taken to the “Big Kremlin” restaurant. Tula is proud of its ancient Kremlin, on the territory of which the establishment is located. Here you can try excellent Russian cuisine and enjoy panoramic views of the Kremlin courtyard.

This is an expensive restaurant, but visitors always note the high class of service and quality of food, as well as the interesting location in an old mansion in the city center.

The Library restaurant is very popular due to its unique design and excellent cuisine. What is attractive is not only the concept of a book-restaurant, where thematic style is maintained, but also real French cuisine with a chef from France. Author's cuisine restaurants

Today, any large Russian city can boast of several experimental restaurants with unique signature cuisine. In Tula, such a place is “Fox Hole”, where they prepare dishes mainly from meat using their own technologies, and also serve authentic tinctures and fruit drinks. From positive reviews - delicious and inexpensive cuisine, large portions. On the negative side, it’s cramped and noisy.

So-called public restaurants are not a new phenomenon in Europe and the States. These are democratic establishments with a wide variety of cuisine, accessible and attractive to everyone, regardless of social status, income, age or preferences. This is exactly the plan for the relatively new Tula restaurant Public. Reviews praise the varied and mostly delicious cuisine, as well as the impeccable service.

Inexpensive family restaurants

In addition to pretentious and expensive establishments, there is always a need for small, quiet places for family leisure. Are there such restaurants in Tula? Yes, for example, “Plate” and “Guests”.

“Tarelka” is represented in the city by two establishments, but the one in the Gostiny Dvor shopping center is more popular, largely due to the open balcony. The food here is tasty and inexpensive, and there is a business lunch. The “Guests” restaurant is more respectable. Tula highly appreciates the fact that the establishment is aimed at guests with children - there is a children's menu and high chairs. And on weekends, the restaurant welcomes a more mature crowd and offers unobtrusive live music.

And the little gourmets of Tula like the “Chocolate” cafe. There is a huge selection of sweets and pastries, but you can also have a hearty lunch or dinner. There is a play corner and high chairs for children.

Cooking of the Pirogov sisters

“Cooking Cafe of the Pirogov Sisters” is a cozy and special place for those who appreciate delicious homemade food and the freshest baked goods. This cafe operates on the principle of a culinary shop.

40-70 varieties of dishes are prepared here every day. Come for breakfast, sit on soft armchairs and sofas and enjoy your favorite dishes - tender milk porridge with toppings, a variety of omelettes, flaky hearty sandwiches or cottage cheese casserole. You can take breakfast with you, home or to the office.

Here you will be offered a selection of hot, aromatic hot coffee and other drinks that you can take with you.

A convenient difference between the Pirogov Sisters is that in a large display case you can immediately see all the products and choose what you like.

For lunch or dinner, you will find many delicious dishes of the European culinary tradition: soups, salads, meat and fish dishes. Try the coffee-glazed pork ribs and be pleasantly surprised by the many new dishes that the chef regularly prepares for guests.

This cafe-culinary always has fresh pastries and a variety of desserts, prepared only from natural products according to classic recipes. A perfect addition to tea, coffee or soft drinks. For example, two types of delicate honey cakes: caramel with a layer of white chocolate and caramel or mousse with a layer of milk mousse with white chocolate and a layer of crushed nuts.

At the Pirogov Sisters' Culinary Cafe you can order a delicious and beautiful cake for an important event, pastries and pastries that will be prepared for you on your special day.

The culinary cafe welcomes adults and young guests. Now on Sundays children's master classes are held here! Follow the topics of the master classes on Instagram cooking and sign up.

Beer restaurants in Tula

This is a very popular format of establishments in recent years. Usually here you can try non-standard beers and eat not just an appetizer, but a full-fledged dish from the chef.

One of the most popular places of this kind is the Petr Petrovich brewery. Fans of the foamy drink who have already been here note the truly delicious beer. There are many varieties, so guests are offered tasting sets. In addition to beer, the cuisine is praised - hearty, tasty and varied dishes at an affordable price.

There are restaurants in Tula stylized as German beer halls, for example “Müller” and “Frau Martha”, but they are less popular among residents. But the sports bar “Soviet Sport” is a good example of a good beer establishment. However, this is not just a place where you can watch a match broadcast over a glass of foamy drink. The local chef is truly interested in making sure fans leave well-fed. The menu is small, but all dishes are high quality and tasty.

Breakfast at the Orus cafe

The second time we went for a walk to Tula one day, after the train we decided to go have breakfast. Since the route started from Lenin Avenue, I looked for a cafe for breakfast there. Many establishments start opening around lunchtime, especially on Sunday, so the choice was limited. There were good reviews about the Orus cafe (61 Lenina Avenue).

cafe orus

The cafe has one small room and few tables. There were four of us, so we were glad that most of the tables were large and also had comfortable sofas. Often cafes have small tables and chairs, but here it’s a super comfortable environment for communication.

The cafe menu has a lot of drinks, a large coffee and tea list. But there is practically no food. You can choose a pastry or a piece of cake in the window, or order a sandwich or waffles.

I chose a ham and cheese sandwich and a classic iced coffee.

Tula coffee shop

Our entire group liked everything we ordered. The only negative is that the sandwiches take a very long time to prepare. We saw that everything was done under the knife, so it took a long time, but it was very tasty, the sandwich was 100% fresh. The prices here are Moscow, but we did not regret the money spent here.

Banquet halls and restaurants for special events

One of the most interesting places in this segment can be considered the “Sudar” restaurant. Tula is an old Russian city, and “Sir” successfully plays on this theme. This place is designed in accordance with the Russian noble style - the beautiful decoration of the halls, traditional Russian cuisine, the grace and charm of an old noble estate make the place popular for outdoor wedding ceremonies.

Another popular establishment is Green House. This is a cozy hotel, a spa center, and a wonderful European restaurant. The Voronka River and the nearby Yasnaya Polyana Nature Reserve make the place popular.

Entertainment centers and clubs

Such places are chosen by those who want to combine a delicious dinner with pleasant entertainment. The most popular place among local residents is the Gingerbread club and restaurant. The owners managed to combine good cuisine, live music, and an entertainment club, which other Tula restaurants do not have. Reviews recommend delicious dishes and large portions, as well as interesting programs of the establishment.

Restaurant bars

The restobar format is far from new in the world, but in Russia a wave of interest in such informal establishments is gradually rising. During the day and on weekdays it is more of a democratic restaurant, and in the evenings and on weekends it is a noisy bar where people come to drink and chat. But good cuisine, even if not with an extensive menu, is an indispensable attribute of this format.

Among similar establishments in Tula, one can note the “Check in” bar. The menu here is standard for a restobar - salads, steaks, burgers. Visitors highly praise the grilled dishes and note that the prices are affordable.

Similar places with a cozy atmosphere, delicious dishes and an excellent bar are “Tower” and “Chili Bar”.

Where to drink beer?

Among the establishments where you can drink beer in warm company, in addition to the already mentioned “Petr Petrovich” and “Augustin” , one can note the gastropub “PonesLos” on Lenin Avenue, the restaurant “Beerlin” on Krasnoarmeysky Avenue. But the undisputed leader at the moment is the bars of the Salden'S Brewery (the most popular in the Iskra youth space, but another one recently opened near the P.P. Belousov Central Park). A real festival of taste awaits lovers of original beer in Saldence. You can try Milk Sour Ale Passion Fruit Sour, Wild Ale With Cherry Batch, English Barleywine Aged In Bourbon Barrels Batch, Simcoe IPA, Oak Smoked Tomato Gose and other popular beers. There's cider too. And also burgers, mussels, soups, salads and snacks. In short, everything to have a delicious time!

Caucasian kitchen

You can try Asian or European cuisine in many restaurants in Tula, but the beloved Caucasian cuisine is best represented by the Armenia restaurant. Tula is famous for its beautiful ancient places, and the establishment takes advantage of this - there is no noisy music or karaoke, and guests are delighted with the panorama of the historical part of the city. Here you can also try delicious dishes of Caucasian and Russian cuisine in a chic Gothic setting of the hall.

Another tasty place on the city map is the “Spices and Joys” restaurant. Locals advise booking tables in advance, as it is always crowded. And no wonder - the food is delicious, the portions are large, and the service is friendly. By the way, this restaurant is number 1 in the city according to TripAdvisor.

And in the Aida restaurant complex you can try Azerbaijani cuisine, 50 types of kebabs and many meat dishes. However, reviews warn against taking salads and draw attention to the paid entrance on days with live music.

Of course, these are not all the establishments of the city; on the map of Tula there is a wide variety of different restaurants, bars, cafes with excellent cuisine and a pleasant atmosphere.

Balkans

The Balkan restaurant opened its doors to guests this spring on Lenin Avenue.

This is a cozy place that is filled with traditions and atmosphere of the Balkan Peninsula. The chef of this restaurant, Dragoslav Jankuloski, is from Serbia; many connoisseurs of taste already know him in Tula. He graduated from a culinary school in Belgrade, whose graduates work in the best restaurants in the world. He worked as a chef in Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, and lived in Siberia for several years. And for the last three years I worked in one of the restaurants in the center of Tula.

At the Balkan restaurant they are proud of their fellow countrymen - the Tula Arsenal players. Balkans and many other legionnaires of the Tula football club often visit the restaurant, so if you stop by for lunch or dinner here, you may find yourself at the next table with Luka Djordjevic or Ognjen Ozegovic. For them, this restaurant is a piece of their native Balkans; their native speech and soulful Bulgarian, Montenegrin and Serbian music are heard here.

The restaurant has two halls, one larger, the other smaller, and a small separate office. It can accommodate 50 guests.

Right from the threshold you will find yourself in a cozy home interior: a fireplace and soft sofas, knitted rugs and jars of pickles on the shelves. The atmosphere is complemented by a large collection of decorative plates and photographs with vivid views of ancient fortresses, sea bays, and cities of the countries of the Balkan Peninsula.

The small hall, covering the entire wall, is decorated with a panel with the main attraction of Montenegro - the Bay of Kotor, one of the most beautiful bays in the world.

Balkan cuisine is unique - it combines Slavic, Mediterranean, Turkish and German culinary traditions. The basis of the menu is meat dishes, served with fresh vegetables and herbs.

Try the national Balkan dish sarma with beef, smoked meats and sauerkraut, or Karađorđeva schnitzel, a Serbian dish named after a Serbian prince. This is a baked pork roll filled with kajmak, served with potatoes and tartar sauce. Another favorite dish of Balkan cuisine is pljeskavica. It is similar to a Russian cutlet, it is made from three types of meat, and it is incredibly large in size. The dish is served with finely chopped onions.

Fish lovers in the Balkan will appreciate the wealth of choice. After all, the Balkan countries are famous for their seafood.

Chef Dragoslav's main rule is that the starting products must be of the highest quality! Therefore, they purchase products from trusted suppliers.

The fish - in no case frozen, but only chilled - is supplied in small batches from Moscow. Cheese, Serbian cheese, raw smoked meat are also Russian-made, and are not inferior in taste to those produced in Serbia.

Another important rule of Dragoslav: the cook should not know for whom he is cooking. For him, all guests are GUESTS!

It doesn’t matter who placed the order: a governor, a businessman, an artist, a football player or a simple worker, the food will be of the highest quality!

The drinks here are also Balkan; the bar menu presents traditional options from all 12 countries of the Balkan Peninsula.

Prices at Balkan are affordable, and you can dine here from 12:00 to 16:00 with a 20 percent discount on the menu.
