For those who prefer to actively spend their leisure time, we recommend going to explore the village. Kuchugury has attractions that amaze with their diversity, despite the size of the village.
The resort itself has good environmental conditions. It has a mild continental climate, which has an excellent effect on the health of all vacationers. The beauty of the surrounding area will allow you to capture them in numerous photos that can remind you of an unforgettable trip to the Azov shores.

The embankment itself is not equipped, but you can go to the central beach. It's better there. Firstly, it is very long (3 km). Secondly, here you can find entertainment in the form of slides, sun loungers, cabins and much more. There is also a cafe on the shore called “Two Captains”. There is an observation deck next to the cafe; if you look from it, the panorama is simply magnificent. You can eat delicious food and look at the wonderful scenery.
Attractions by the sea
For many people who plan their holiday, the deciding factor in choosing a location is the sea. It is in Kuchugury that it is clean and does not contain algae.
Embankment
A favorite place for walks for locals and visitors is the coastal part of the resort village. The usual embankment, in the understanding of many people, is not equipped here. Only in the central part there is a paved area, from where a beautiful view of the seashore opens.
Central Beach
The Central Beach in Kuchugury is considered one of the best on the Sea of Azov. Its length is about 3 km with breaks. The purest sand, which is in the majority here, includes feldspar and quartz.
Neighborhood
If a person is going to Kuchugury, attractions here are also located in the surrounding area. Without exaggeration, magnificent peach orchards can be classified as such.
When entering the city, you can get to them by walking. If you look at the map, they will be located in the south of Kuchugur. They sell these delicious fruits at reasonable prices.
If you go east, you will find Cape Pekla. The most interesting thing there is the mud volcano, which undoubtedly belongs to the attractions of Kuchugur. He's amazing. It’s not for nothing that different tourists come here every year, even from foreign countries. The mud of the volcano is considered healing, and there is also blue clay here. The mud baths are not equipped in any way, but you can take them for free. The crater is small in size and can accommodate 10 people at a time.
Important: stay in the mud for 10 minutes, maximum 15! After you swim in the mud, you need to go to the sea and take a plunge. From the sea to the volcano it is approximately 100 m.
Ostrich farm and petting zoo in Za Rodinu village
This place is recommended even by those who previously disliked zoos. There are no sad, tortured animals, intrusive photographers or indifferent caretakers here. Perhaps it is the owner of the zoo - a person who is sincerely passionate about his work. Or maybe in the atmosphere created by funny big-eyed ostriches. In addition to ostriches, the farm is home to squirrels, kangaroos, marmots, nutria, ferrets, peacocks, ducks, a goat and the beloved donkey Gennady.
Here are four tips from those who have already visited an ostrich farm:
- After the tour, feed the animals, it's fun! The food is sold here, prices are reasonable.
- Don't wear flashy jewelry; ostriches might have an eye on it.
- try the ostrichburgers in the cafe, they are really tasty.
- At the farm you can buy a decorative ostrich egg and even the ostrich itself.

Volcano
It is worth remembering that it is best to come here at the end of May, mid-June or early September. Firstly, it’s still warm here, and secondly, there are few vacationers. The downside is that if it’s high season, there are a lot of people, you can even get into a queue. Vacationers, unfortunately, litter, and there may also be stones at the bottom of the volcano.
People who have heart problems or any chronic diseases should not swim in mud baths until they have consulted with doctors about this.
Most vacationers claim that mud baths calm them down, and the mud has an anti-inflammatory effect. They are very nice. If you have diseases associated with the musculoskeletal system, then mud will help.
To get to the volcano, you need to walk from the village along the shore. The best way is to walk or ride a bike (you can rent one here). Vacationers claim that visiting the volcano leaves a pleasant impression.
Story
The official date of formation of the village is 1924. Until 1940, the Red Kuchugur artel was formed here. During the Great Patriotic War, the farm was completely destroyed, only three huts survived, and the residents were evicted by the Germans to Crimea. After the war, until 1951, the “Path of Communism” artel operated here. In 1957, when the land was divided, the Primorsky collective farm was formed, which in 1960 was reorganized into the Golubaya Bukhta wine state farm.
Although the Kuchugury farm in the Temryuk region was finally abolished in the 1970s, it is currently thriving. The population of the village is almost 2.5 thousand people.
Market, recreation center and temple
If you come to Kuchugury, where to go and what to see, you can ask the local residents. Townspeople advise visiting the seasonal market. Since the town is near the sea, it is natural that the market has a lot of freshly caught seafood. Many sellers sell dairy products that they make themselves. Fruits and vegetables are also sold.
You can also go to the House of Culture, where a music school and various sections are open. There is also a veterans’ choir and various performances are held there. Librarians gather for the All-Russian camp, and at this time many workers in this field come here.
The temple dedicated to Alexander Nevsky may attract attention. It was built through joint efforts and completed in 2009. There are various icons and particles of relics.
Archaeological Museum in Taman
It would seem that what interesting things could be in a provincial museum? One can argue this way if one does not know the rich history of the Taman Peninsula. Archaeologists find here traces of ancient Greek cities, settlements of warlike Cimmerian nomads, the East Slavic principality of Tmutarakan and many other ancient peoples.
This ethnographic splendor is carefully restored in a special laboratory and exhibited at the Taman Archaeological Museum. For a provincial museum, there is a very rich exhibition here, and this year it has become even better, since relics taken by the Nazis during the Patriotic War were returned.
To prevent a visit to the museum from turning into a boring walk, use our tips:
- take a tour, the museum workers tell very interesting stories!
- take a look at the patio. The architects recreated the atmosphere of an antique patio there with ivy-covered walls, columns and a small pool.
- Don’t be surprised that there are no visitors in the halls. This is more of an advantage than a disadvantage: the excursion will take place at a calm pace and no one will be distracted.

Basic moments
Road to the sea, the village of Kuchugury
The village of Kuchugury is adjacent to the village of Fontalovskaya - the center of the rural settlement of which it is part. Already upon approaching it along the federal highway A 290, leading to the port of Kavkaz, spectacular views of the resort town surrounded by greenery, facing the blue sea, open up. Its steep coastline with a winding beach covered with golden sand stretches for almost 8 km. It ends at Cape Pekla, where a mud volcano is located, which has become an object of pilgrimage for tourists. This hilly coastal area is often called Taman Switzerland.
In the last decade, Kuchugury has been developing rapidly, competing with the more famous resorts of the Taman Peninsula. Warm shallow waters, clean beaches, good ecology, thermal waters found in the vicinity of the village have turned it into a popular place for family and recreational holidays.
Every year new guest houses and boarding houses open here. Existing sanatoriums and recreation centers are improving their infrastructure. The private sector is also focused on welcoming holidaymakers, and additional income allows local residents to upgrade their properties. Thanks to this, the village looks very presentable. With the growing number of tourists in Kuchugury, the number of bars, cafes, restaurants increases, and attractions appear that attract guests of different generations.
History of the village of Kuchugury
The village of Kuchugury is located in an area where in the VI-I centuries BC. e. was the ancient Greek city of Cimmeric. In 480 BC. e. it became part of the Bosporan kingdom, uniting with neighboring colonial cities. This state occupied territory on both banks of the Kerch Strait. Cimmeric on the Taman Peninsula belonged to the “Asian” part of the kingdom, and the city of the same name, located in the Crimea, belonged to its “European” territories.
Within the modern resort there are two archaeological locations - on the coast and one kilometer away. In a settlement remote from the sea, the remains of fortifications with defensive towers were excavated. It is believed that here was one of the fortresses that was part of the defense system of the “Asian” possessions of the Bosporan kingdom. This fortified settlement supposedly existed until the 4th century and was repeatedly subjected to fires and destruction. The last of them are probably associated with the invasion of the Huns.
Memorial of Glory to Soldiers-Liberators who did not return from the war
It is not precisely established when the village of Kuchugury was formed. Local old-timers, born in the first half of the last century, claimed that their grandfathers were born here. Historians suggest that the pre-revolutionary settlement was collective and consisted of several farms where Cossack families lived. The unusual name of the village, located in a hilly and sometimes ravine area, is believed to come from the Ukrainian word “kuchugury”. Initially, this was the name given to sand dunes, and then to any natural accumulations of a similar shape, for example, hills or mounds.
In 1924, the farms became part of the Fontalovsky rural district, forming the village of Kuchugury. During the Great Patriotic War, fierce battles were fought on the Taman Peninsula. In September 1942, German troops, having crossed the Kerch Strait on ferries, landed near the village and made their way deep into Taman. During the hostilities, Kuchugury was almost completely destroyed, only three buildings survived. The bunker near the seashore reminds us of defensive battles. In 1990, in memory of the fallen defenders and in honor of the liberating soldiers, a memorial was opened in the center of the village.
Geography and climate
Mud volcano at Cape Pekly
The village of Kuchugury is located in the north-west of Taman and is part of the Fontalovsky rural settlement, which is located on a small peninsula of the same name. Kuchugury is 4 km away from the administrative center of the settlement, the village of Fontalovskaya. If you look at a map depicting the coastline of the Azov Sea, Kuchugury can be seen approximately in the middle between the resort villages of Peresyp and Ilyich. The distance along the highway to each of them is about 20 km. Getting around Kuchugury is easy: the road laid here turns into a village street and leads directly to the seashore. She bears the name of Yuri Gagarin. Lenin Street, the main highway in Kuchugury, branches off from this artery at a right angle.
A wide beach strip stretches to the northwest of the village. It reaches almost to Cape Pekla, where the mud volcano Plevok is located - a popular natural attraction. To the east, Kuchugury is adjacent to an area dotted with swollen ravines. On the outskirts of the village, between the hills, hides a lake favored by fishermen.
In areas unsuitable for plowing, there is no network of access roads, so the environmental situation in these areas is very favorable. The flora is represented by steppe herbs, trees and shrubs - rose hips, dogwoods, thorns, blackberries. There are many medicinal plants. Among them are licorice, thyme, yarrow, St. John's wort, valerian, string, celandine. In spring and the first half of summer, when the grasses are flowering, you can see how the color palette of the natural carpet covering the ground changes almost every week.
In May you can already swim on local beaches. This month the water usually warms up to +22 °C. In summer its temperature is +23...+25 °C, and near the coast it can reach +27 °C. The weather at this time is little windy, and the sea is most often calm. The beach season continues in Kuchugury until September.
The summer months are characterized by high temperatures. Thermometers at midday often exceed the 30-degree mark. Rains are rare, and severe droughts occur in some years. The sea breeze somewhat softens the heat.
The bulk of precipitation in Kuchugury occurs in late autumn and winter. The coldest month is January, when the average air temperature is –2 °C. Sometimes strong northerly winds bring sudden cold temperatures. Sometimes a fairly extensive ice crust forms along the coast.
Beaches
The coast of the resort is part of the 68-kilometer beach zone Golubitskaya - Peresyp - Kuchugury, framing the southern shores of Temryuk Bay. The coastal strip near the village is not as wide as the beaches in the area between Golubitskaya and Peresyp. The relief conceals the space: the village lands rise above the shore, breaking off at the sandy coastal belt. The descent into the water itself is gentle and completely safe.
Central beach of the village of Kuchugury
Several paths lead to the sea, a number of them are trodden by vacationers right from the houses where they rent rooms. It is convenient to go down the stairs from Krasnaya and Gagarin streets to the main beach of the village of Kuchugury, which stretches for a kilometer. There are showers, changing cabins and toilets on the shore. Umbrellas and sun loungers can be rented. The beach cafe offers inexpensive set lunches, and vendors constantly scurry along the shore selling hot corn, pies and other fast food.
Almost the entire coast is covered with clean and fine golden sand, crumbly and not sticking to your feet. Occasionally you come across small pebbles. The seabed is also sandy, making it very comfortable to enter the water. The local water area is remote from the mouth of the Kuban, the Kerch Strait and faces the open sea, so the water off the coast is very clean, shimmering with a heavenly blue.
The sandy strip stretching to Cape Pekla widens in places, and the slopes framing it are not steep everywhere. Where they are most flat, areas covered with picturesque vegetation have formed. Tourists traditionally set up tents in such places. The outlying beaches also attract vacationers who like to sunbathe and swim in uncrowded areas.
Cape Pekly
Volcano crater
Kuchugury and Cape Pekla are connected by a dirt road laid along the edge of the elevated coast. During the season it becomes quite lively. Cars constantly ply along the dirt road, tourists scurry about, heading not only towards the wild beaches, but also directly to the cape. Here, about 60 meters from the seashore, on a small hill, a volcanic mud lake took refuge. It's called "Spit." You can walk here from the edge of the village in 40 minutes.
The diameter of the crater is about 10 m, and up to a dozen people can flounder in the lake at the same time. The area around Plevka is not landscaped and there are no stairs. Vacationers have to contrive to undergo a healing procedure. Volcanic mud is a sticky clay containing beneficial microelements that have a beneficial effect on the skin and nervous system. It is worth considering that she is very active, and a long stay in the “font” is not recommended. To wash off the gray-blue substance from your body, you just need to go down the path to the sea. You can swim on the nearest beach with a rocky bottom or walk along the shore towards the village to comfortably enter the sea on the sand.
Entertainment in Kuchugury
Kuchugury, unlike the village of Golubitskaya, cannot boast of a variety of entertainment centers, but tourists do not get bored here. On the central beach of the village, called “Sand Placer”, vacationers can enjoy traditional water activities - banana boat rides, pedal boats, catamarans, and jet skis. It is possible to fly with a parachute attached to the boat. For extreme sports enthusiasts there is a simple bungee.
The Iskra tourist complex houses the Emelya amusement park. Adults and children can enjoy a Ferris wheel, swings, carousels, and a race track. Next to Emelya there is the Madagascar rope park with routes of varying difficulty. In the center of the village there is a karting track with a 250 m long track. On Krasnaya Street there is a billiard club “Duplet”, and on Lenin Street there is a planetarium “Aquarius”.
Fishing enthusiasts can go out to sea by renting a boat from local residents, or cast a fishing rod directly from the shore. The water area is home to more than 20 species of fish, including large martin gobies. Experts say that the best places for fishing are where the bottom is rocky, for example, the coast near Cape Pekly.
As in other resort villages of the Taman Peninsula, private travel agencies operate in Kuchugury. The choice of excursions is traditional for this region: trips to Temryuk with visits to its museums and Military Hill, wine tours (Sennaya village), to the Lotus Valley (Akhtanizovsky Estuary), to the Ataman ethnographic complex (Taman village). Diving enthusiasts can go to the village of Volna, where there is a diving center. A nightclub recently opened there.
