Valdai is a treasure trove of natural and historical attractions. This is a land of stunning mountains and unique lakes, water streams full of fish, and rich fresh air. We are coming from St. Petersburg
When you don't have a car, you can take the bus. It departs from the station on the Obvodny Canal Embankment. You will spend a maximum of 7 hours on the way and will already be there.
There is an option to get to the lake from the Moscow train station, but you need to go with transfers. First you head to the Tver region, Bologoye station. It takes about 2 hours to get to this station from St. Petersburg. Take a taxi on the spot or catch a ride to the city of Valdai.
A train called Bologoe-Valdai also departs from Bologoe station; the ride takes about an hour. Getting from St. Petersburg to the lake is not difficult, the main thing is to immediately determine what kind of transport you will use for this.

From the capital you can get to the lake by bus Moscow - Veliky Novgorod, it goes from the Airport terminal (landmark Leningradsky Prospekt). The Moscow-St. Petersburg bus travels in the same direction; it departs from the bus station, which is located on Shchelkovskaya.
There is an option from Moskovsky railway station to get to Bologoye station. From here you take a taxi to Valdai. Veliky Novgorod is located about 150 kilometers from the city of Valdai.

Ant Island

Lake Linen

Lake Valdai has a long history. There is still debate about the origin and name of the reservoir. The most common opinions on the topic: Lake Valdai, what its name means, say that it is a forest property.
This seems logical, because there are quite a lot of impenetrable forests around the lake. The word Wald from German is also translated as forest. We can assume that ancient people called the lake a forest pearl, because it is difficult to find it among forests.
The lake was formed during the destruction of one glacier. The holes left by the debris gradually filled with water, and springs and small channels appeared. Now this body of water is considered one of the brightest in the country.
