History of Shchuchye

Today's administrative center Shchuchye was founded in 1750. Historical fact. The route of the German scientist, encyclopedist, naturalist Peter Simon (Peter Simon) Palace through the Trans-Urals began from the Chumlyakskaya settlement. Near the village in 1895, during the construction of the Omsk railway, the Chumlyak station appeared, which was opened the next year. The name of the station in the neighborhood of the village of Chumlyak, through which, according to the original project, the route was supposed to pass. This circumstance contributed to the faster development of the village. In 1909, merchant and philanthropist S.I. Kolokolnikov (1867-1925) built a steam roller mill at the Chumlyak station on the Siberian Railway. The owner of the Chumlyak mill was the merchant of the 1st guild, Vladimir Ivanovich Kolokolnikov. In 1941, the equipment of two factories from the cities of Bryansk and Priluki was evacuated to the village of Shchuchye. The plant was then located in the building of the Shchuchanskaya MTS. Currently, this is the Shchuchansky Fire Engineering Plant of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, specializing in the production of chemical foam fire extinguishers. During wartime, the production of fire extinguishers for tanks and aircraft, as well as mines for mortars, was launched. Fire extinguishers were supplied to 34 countries around the world (the plant is not operating). During the Great Patriotic War, 9,324 soldiers left the region for the front, 5,217 soldiers and officers did not return from the battlefields. Three hospitals and five orphanages were established in the region for children evacuated from Moscow and Leningrad. In the village of Chumlyak during the Second World War there was a communications boarding school No. 32, and then as an ordinary orphanage. There were Peschansky, Dankovsky and Zaikovsky orphanages. On May 16, 1945, the village of Shchuchye was given city status. In 1974, the Chumlyak station was renamed the Shchuchye station of the South Ural Railway (SUR).

Economy

The basis of the region's economy is agricultural production.

Shchuchye is an agricultural city, almost like the entire region. In the city there are such agricultural enterprises as: Chumlyaksky Elevator LLC, Zauralsky Kreker OJSC (currently not operating), flour milling and others. North of the city’s borders is the fifth “chemical weapons destruction plant” in the Russian Federation. The enterprise, built with the financial support of the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Switzerland, Norway, a total of 14 European Union states, has completed its task. The history of the chemical weapons storage facility in the village of Planovy dates back to September 13, 1941. During the war, it was military warehouse No. 621 of the People's Commissariat of Defense. He specialized in storing ammunition for cannon and rocket artillery, tactical and operational combat units. In 2021, facility 1207 for the destruction of chemical weapons will be handed over to investors. Near the city there are military units of the Shchuchansky garrison: military unit 92746, military unit 31643 (232 Prague Red Banner Order of Suvorov second degree rocket artillery brigade), military unit 58661/58 of the Federal Administration for the Safe Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons. The Rosatom State Corporation will launch a complex for processing hazardous waste. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a resolution on the allocation of funds for the creation in the city of Shchuchye, Kurgan Region, of a production and technical complex for processing waste of the first and second hazard classes, which includes thermometers, mercury lamps, and batteries. The total cost of the project is 5.1 billion rubles. The enterprise will be created on the basis of a former chemical weapons processing plant, which was closed in 2015 (Kommersant newspaper No. 81, May 15, 2021).
