Tver is one of the largest cities in the country, an important industrial, scientific and cultural center, whose history began in the 12th century.
People who are going for permanent residence in Tver in 2021 should study not only the labor market, but also climatic and weather conditions, the development of infrastructure, and the transport system.
We need to find out how things are going with the real estate market, places of leisure, hospitals, supermarkets and the criminal situation in Tver.
Geographical location
The city is located between two megacities of Russia - Moscow and St. Petersburg. A railway and a highway pass through these three large settlements.
Location of Tver on the map of Russia
Tver should be looked for on the map of the country near the northern part of the Tver ridge, which runs along the border of the Upper Volga lowland.
The Volga flows through the city, which is the decoration of the central part of Tver. The waterway promotes the development of shipping and a port built to receive large cargoes.
Climate and weather in Tver
This city is located in the temperate continental zone, which determines the weather. In particular, in winter it is cold and frosty, but minus temperatures are moderate. In February, the thermometer may show minus 7–100C.
In summer it is not hot, humid, in July the air warms up to +19 (this is the hottest month of the year). Heat is not typical for the summer period, nor are extreme frosts.
Due to humidity, frost or heat will be poorly tolerated by heart patients and asthmatics.
It is important for people who leave other cities for Tver to know the state of the environment in the region and the city.
Due to traffic jams, a large number of cars, the work of industrial enterprises, and the use of chemicals in agriculture, Tver found itself in a zone of environmental crisis. In winter, you can observe how the surface of the snow quickly becomes dark due to the poor state of the atmosphere.
We advise you to watch the video for those who are planning to move to Tver for permanent residence.
Pollution also affected water bodies. The rivers: Volga, Tmaka and Tverda suffer from emissions from industrial enterprises.
The Moscow region, located next to Tver, also has a negative impact on the environment. Wind and clouds bring many harmful elements to the region, polluting ground and surface waters, the atmosphere, vegetation and soil.
Infrastructure Features
There are hundreds of kindergartens and secondary schools in Tver.
Specialized education can be obtained in the following places:
- vocational schools;
- colleges;
- technical schools;
- state universities;
- branches of Russian and international universities.
Education can be obtained in more than 100 specialties. For high-quality training of professionals and workers, the city administration creates conditions for creative, administrative and scientific activities.
If you are planning to study in Europe or other countries, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the ranking of the quality of education in countries around the world.

The city's infrastructure organically includes the transport system and roads, with which there are certain problems in Tver. The road surface is being updated, but this is not enough. After all, there are broken sidewalks, potholes, and lack of asphalt everywhere.
It can be difficult to get to suburban villages, since there are no normal roads or transport. Traffic jams have become a common occurrence on city roads, which is especially noticeable during rush hours.
The transport system is represented by railways, buses, cars, and public transport, which transports citizens and tourists.
The number of cars in Tver is constantly growing, which complicates the situation on highways. The city has long been known as a major transport hub of the Russian Federation, from where it is easy to get to neighboring settlements.
You can get around the city by buses, trolleybuses, trams, which are gradually being replaced by commercial buses and minibuses.
You can buy food and other goods, the prices of which in Tver are lower than in the capital region, in shopping centers and complexes such as Metro, Pyaterochka and Magnit.
Retail trade enterprises are also open, for example, Auchan and Lenta hypermarkets.
In many areas of the city there are supermarkets and shops open almost 24 hours a day. Such retail establishments are opening next to residential complexes, neighborhoods, and cottage communities so that residents can quickly purchase everything they need for their home.
Tver supermarkets compete with markets. The largest of them is the Tver Central Market, where you can buy vegetables and fruits, sausages, spices, tea, coffee, sausages, etc.

What to see in winter with children
Travelers with children who come to Tver in winter have the opportunity to create a route that alternates being in the fresh air and entertaining areas located under the roof.
There is no need to make a special trip to the Tver City Garden , because it is located near the Mikhail Yaroslavich embankment. Unfortunately, during the cold season, the park's attractions do not operate, but there is a large wooden slide, decorated with spruce balls and garlands, as well as bright LED figures for spectacular evening photos. Every year in December, Father Frost's Post Office Opening Day takes place in the garden, and a special box appears for letters with New Year's wishes. The festival organizes master classes, competitions with prizes and other activities for the whole family. At the end of February - beginning of March, Maslenitsa is celebrated here.

Victory Park also has a slide and tubing rentals, an outdoor skating rink and ice tracks. Ice is poured in the neighboring Tmaka Park , at the Tver Hippodrome and on Glory Square , in front of the Lisa Chaikina Museum . Skate rental will be available for guests: as a rule, it is available at every skating rink.
After walking around, choose indoor areas where both children and adults can have fun. The Children's Museum Center will entertainingly highlight the history of Tver, show a peasant hut, and ancient outfits. He also conducts folk festivals and master classes on crafts.

You definitely won’t get bored at the Museum of Entertaining Sciences “Experiment Land” . In the form of a show, acoustic, electrical, light, water and other experiments will be shown here, demonstrating the processes of physics and chemistry. In some, visitors will be able to participate in person and, for example, catch lightning in their hands. Please note that the museum occupies the Vaganov mansion - an example of urban architecture of the late 18th century. Its facades are lavishly decorated with carvings and stucco; the four atlases under the openwork balcony are especially noticeable.
Another chance to combine leisure time and exploring the city is to go to the Zvezda cinema on the embankment. It is distinguished by symmetrical hexagonal facades on the sides, topped with rotundas on top. The unusual building from 1937 is a monument to post-constructivism. There are always exciting performances in the repertoires of the Youth Theater , Puppet Theater and Circus . For the New Year, magical New Year's fairy tales are certainly staged. In addition, for the entertainment of the younger generation there are game rooms, quest rooms, and virtual reality clubs. According to modern traditions, some of them will definitely be found in shopping centers, like Rubin and Rio.

Housing and communal services tariffs
Utilities in Tver increased in 2021 and increased again in 2021. On the website of the Government of the Tver Region you can see the current prices for electricity, water, gas and other types of utilities.
On websites, Tver residents constantly complain about the work of housing and communal services employees. After all, residents of houses often have to deal with non-functioning sewage systems and untimely garbage collection.
Many people complain about high tariffs and the services provided. City residents believe that prices do not correspond to the quality of communal services.
In 2021, the cost of housing and communal services was:
- electricity – 4.27 rubles/kW;
- water supply - 21.95 rubles;
- water disposal - 22.72 rubles;
- gas – 8,342 rubles/1 m3 (for water heaters and cooking);
- gas – 5,475 rub./1 m3 (heating);
- waste disposal – 96.5 rub. from one person who is registered in a house or apartment.
Not all companies that serve apartment buildings and the private sector have increased heating and gas tariffs. They achieved this through city subsidies allocated for utilities.

You can open your own business in the city, but here you will have to withstand fierce competition from Moscow entrepreneurs.

The Obelisk of Victory is the main place of memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, located on the square at the confluence of the Tmaka River with the Volga. The obelisk is a tall faceted column with a fire bowl on top. The fire in the bowl of the column is lit several times a year on holidays. The base of the monument is decorated with eight bas-reliefs on a military theme.
The eternal flame is located behind the column, and across the left bridge further is a memorial in the form of a colonnade “They will not return from the war.” It was installed in memory of those killed in the wars of recent decades. On the other side, where the right bridge leads, there is a small temple of Mikhail Tverskoy . It was erected in honor of Mikhail Yaroslavich, a prince who lived at the turn of the 13th-14th centuries, who defended the city from the encroachments of the Moscow principality and the Horde and after his death was canonized as a saint.
