Kemerovo
- a Russian city on the banks of the Tom River, at the confluence of the Iskitimka River.
First time place
at the mouth of the Iskitimka river was mentioned in 1701 as the settlement “Shcheglovo” in the geographical atlas of Siberia by Semyon Remizov. In 1721, coal deposits were discovered here, but in the 18th century the discovery did not find practical application.
Only in 1825 the Shcheglovskoye coal deposit was studied by a geological party. On May 9, 1918, Shcheglovsky district and the city of Shcheglovsk were formed from the former village of Shcheglovo. In 1921, coal mining began to rise in Kuzbass.
Church of the Holy Trinity In 1924, Kuznetsk and Shcheglovsky districts were separated from the Tomsk province and transformed into a separate Kuznetsk district. Shcheglovsk became its administrative center.
On March 27, 1932, the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee issued a resolution to rename Shcheglovsk to Kemerovo. On January 26, 1943, the Kuzbass industrial region became an independent region. Kemerovo becomes the administrative center of the Kemerovo region.

Of the permanent population, the density of children per total area in the city in 2021 is 9.1 (5072 people) per 1000 people, and in 2021 – 10.1 (6483 children). This happens in connection with the emergence of a demographic gap, as well as the beginning of fertile age in women born in the 90s. This is how this period was characterized by Oleg Kovalenko. But over ten years there was still an increase, which amounted to 17,301.
Coat of arms
The coat of arms of Kemerovo is presented in the form of a French shield. It is divided into two fields of black and red. In the center there is a retort overlapping a gear and ears of corn. The items symbolize the chemical and engineering industries. Plants embody the fertility of the earth thanks to the fertilizers produced here. The name of the city is indicated at the top. The shield is edged in gold, the inscription is on a background of the same color.
The artistic composition was approved on August 29, 1997. Not yet included in the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation.
Historical formation
The historical development from villages to city government in Kemerovo seems to be a chain of long-term events, which began to develop in 1916, with the discovery of coal deposits. It was founded in 1918, uniting the village of Shcheglovo and the village of Kemerovo. Until 1924 it bore the proud name Shcheglov, then until 1932 Shcheglovsk. And only after that did Kemerovo become modern and familiar to us.
The city is over 100 years old as of 2021, namely 102 years old. The area of the Kemerovo city association is 295 square kilometers, a fairly large city by modern regalia. Kemerovo is located in the southern part of Western Siberia, the northern section of the Kuznetsk coal basin.
It is the administrative center of the Kemerovo regional location and Kuzbass. The Kemerovo region is located in 50th place in terms of area among Russian cities. Has a socio-economic status. If you start studying modern history, then this is an important administrative, industrial, transport, economic and cultural heritage of Russia.
The main attraction of the central part is the mine manager's house, built in 1916, at which time the city was just emerging. The population of the city of Kemerovo gives an assessment of the city:
- Clean.
- Good.
- Satellite city.
- Impossibly provincial.
But, nevertheless, citizens love their homeland, they believe that it is full of amazing places and rich in minerals. For many years, the city administration has been holding a foundation day in the Kemerovo city square. Concerts and competitions are held, and a Kemerovo fair is organized, where pensioners periodically start fights.
This is the largest industrial center of the region. The leading sectors of industrial activity are: chemical, mechanical engineering, electric power, and coal enterprises.
History of the name
There are two versions of the origin of the name, based on the history of Kemerovo. Philologists and candidates of philological sciences suggest that the Turkic word “kemir”, which translated means “shore, cliff”, could alternate with “kim-rva”, meaning “flammable stone”. The designation of the area was at first conventional, based on its rocky shores and coal, but then it became a proper name. Stanislav Olenev, rhetorician and stylist, draws attention to the right bank of the Tom. It is rocky and rich in cliffs, and therefore this version has a right to exist. In addition, coal was first found on this coast, which marked the beginning of the coal industry.
The other version is more plausible, because it is confirmed by documents. After the resettlement to this area began, it was referred to by the name of the first person to arrive there, Stepan Kemirov. While he lived at the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th century, his son, Athanasius, settled the settlement in the 18th century, taking up organizational issues. It was called the village of Kemerovo or Komarovo. Perhaps the replacement of the letter in the surname occurred on purpose, but the similarity and logical validity remained.
National composition

How many years will it take for the national population of the city of Kemerovo to change, historical events and the demographic situation will show.
Anthem of the Kemerovo region
You see: the lights are burning in the night, the starry sky has fallen to the ground. You hear: the melody sounds, The land east of the Urals sings. Where the cities along the banks of the Tepla and Light River create reserves, It was mined in the mine by miners - the working melody of Kuzbass. Melody, sound in harmony with hearts. Melody, our path is long and difficult. The earth revealed its talent to people, and people revealed their talent to the earth!
We do not hide our faces from the flames, When metal is born in the crucible. The hardened hands of the blacksmith Melody were reliably hardened. It thunders in the factory aisles, And the trains carry it along the tracks. The working melody of Kuzbass speaks to us about our father's house. Melody, sound in harmony with hearts. Melody, our path is long and difficult. The earth revealed its talent to people, and people revealed their talent to the earth!
When dew falls in the foothills, When the sun rises over the valley, The taiga noise and bird voices In tune with the mighty music are distinguishable. The world will be opened to the breath of spring, And love will wait for the appointed hour. The working melody of Kuzbass joins the melody of our native country! Melody, sound in harmony with hearts. Melody, our path is long and difficult. The earth revealed its talent to people, and people revealed their talent to the earth!

Natural movement
Kemerovostat presented a summary of the population of Kemerovo for the first six months of 2021 based on the natural movement of residents in all regions of the regional level. The total population of Kuzbass is 2,651,450. Over the past period, the population in the region amounted to 0.4%. As of July 21, 2020, it had decreased to 6,298 people.
The birth rate dropped to 8.4%, which is 9,160 people for the population of Kemerovo in 2021. The mortality rate is reduced to 6.8%, that is, 15,660 people. It follows that statistics on mortality prevail over data on newborns by 72%.
Marriages and divorces
The numerical composition of the population in the region in 2021 - 2021 is affected by the ratio of marriage and divorce. During the first half of 2020, 710 marriages were concluded, while in 2021 there were 596. As for divorces - 895 versus 664. In terms of population, it ranks 4th in registration and dissolution of relationships in the Siberian territories.
The desire to annul marriages appears in couples if they entered into a family relationship at a young age and were unable to come to a common agreement in everyday matters. Also, couples who have lived together realize that the feelings have passed, something needs to be changed. Such decisions have a significant impact on the birth rate in Kemerovo throughout 2021. This changes the demographic situation significantly. If there are children, they are raised in single-parent families. Due to the lack of government support, people move to other cities.
Data for the Kemerovo region
History of the streets of Kemerovo
In Kemerovo there is Shcheglovsky Lane. Why was it given this name? Since the history of the city of Kemerovo began with the village of Shcheglovo, the townspeople do not forget this period of time. They left in the name of the lane a memory of how the city grew and developed. In addition, there is a street called Derzhavin, a famous geologist who conducted research on the Tom River. The scientist received his knowledge at the Vologda gymnasium and Kazan University, after which he was a mentor in Irkutsk, a teacher’s seminary. At Tomsk University he was the curator of the mineralogical cabinet and published in “Research on the Railway Path.”
The history of the streets does not end there. One of the city streets is named after Timiryazev, a naturalist and active defender of Darwin's theory. Being an honored scientist, he studied photosynthesis and plant physiology and achieved great results in this. One of the streets of Kemerovo also bears the surname of Kirchanov: the artist-painter was raised in the spirit of socialism, which was reflected in his work. One of the first to be recognized as a People's and Honored Artist of the USSR. Another 1,100 streets can boast of their beautiful, and sometimes historically significant, names.
Migration
The population percentage of Kemerovo residents for 2021, due to natural decline, decreased by 5,535 people. The region occupies a leading position in this area in Siberia. There is 6.3 natural decline per 100 thousand population of Kuzbass. But in comparison with the migration flow of the population for 2021, the situation has changed for the better, the figures for last year were 6.5. That is, 5,550 people.
Migration processes in the region and a decrease in population in the city and districts occur due to poor ecology and low wages. There are no quotas allocated for state employees and single-parent families; for this reason, people go to other regional centers of Russia. In addition, there is a lack of jobs, no prospects for development and a limited choice of university education.
Kemerovo as a regional center
The city received this title in 1943. During wartime, the administrative center was a sad sight - collapsed, dirty, with barracks and one-story houses. No one took care of the streets, and therefore it was sometimes difficult to walk along them. By the end of 1951, a master plan was created, according to which the city was to be rebuilt, put in order, streets were named after war heroes and residential areas were built. Kemerovo again learned what massive and rapid population growth and improvement of entire districts were like.
From 1970 to 1980, a project was planned for the development of the Shalgotaryana microdistrict in the Leninsky district. It was something unusual: construction with multi-storey buildings lined with ceramic tiles. Retail outlets were set up between houses. Nowadays, the construction of objects of cultural significance for both the city and the country continues to develop.
