Story

The history of the settlement dates back to 1710, when the first immigrants from the Kharkov and Poltava provinces settled here. Among them was a Little Russian who bore the surname Kotenko, which is where the name of the settlement came from. Then other small settlements began to form in the surrounding area, formed by state-owned Ukrainian peasants.

Over time, the city was developed; it was filled with residential buildings and industrial buildings. The Archangel Michael Church was built from stone. The five streets that made up the city at that time ran parallel to the river. Kazanka.

Each household had its own vegetable garden and orchard. The number of wells in the village exceeded a hundred. The surrounding area is surrounded by arable land and forests. In 1947, the Korobkovskoye oil field was discovered here, and from the mid-50s, the formation of an oil field took place. In 1958, Kotovo became a working-class village, and in 1966 it received city status. In the same year, the Korobkovsky gas processing plant began operations, and an enterprise for the production of drilling equipment was also put into operation, producing about 200 types of various products.

A cinema, 5 general education and one music school, several sports facilities and libraries, and a cultural center began operating in the city. The municipal infrastructure was well developed and gasification was complete. Paved roads stretch from Kotovo to all villages.

Now the area is considered industrial, since the volume of agricultural products produced is only 4%. While the rest is occupied by industrial goods. The district has 44 educational institutions, 24 gyms, a stadium for 5,000 people, and two swimming pools.

In 1927, a partnership for joint cultivation of land “Red Ray” was created. In 1939, MTS already had more than 70 tractors, dozens of combines, seeders and other equipment, and built an elevator. The terrible years of the Great Patriotic War began. Almost three and a half thousand Kotovites went into the fire of battle. A third of them did not return from the battlefield. In 1949, the Korobkovskoye oil field was discovered, and in the mid-50s, construction of an oil field began. On October 28, 1958, the first oil flowed from well No. 12. For their selfless work during the development of the Korobkovskoye field, 126 oil workers were awarded orders and medals of the Motherland. Since 1958, Kotovo has become a workers' village. And on January 1, 1961, the village was transformed into a city. From 1969 to 1970, its population almost doubled and reached 18 thousand people. On September 30, 1966, the Korobkovsky gas processing plant was put into operation, at the same time a drilling equipment plant was built, producing more than 200 types of products. A cinema, a House of Culture, 5 secondary schools, a music school, a wide network of libraries and sports facilities were built in the city. The city and villages of the region have a fairly developed communal infrastructure. The area is completely gasified. All settlements are connected to the city of Kotovo by paved roads. Today, in the total volume of production of goods and services, the share of industry is 52.9%, agriculture - 18.2%, retail trade - 22.7%. The region's industry specializes in oil and gas production, processing of these raw materials, and production of agricultural products. The agro-industrial complex of the district is represented by 13 agricultural organizations, 43 peasant farms and 7,713 personal subsidiary plots. The production of agricultural products in all categories of the economy is 1468.0 thousand rubles. In 2021, the total area of ​​arable land in the region was 139.4 thousand hectares, cultivated arable land was 71.44 thousand hectares or 51.2% of the total area.

The district's healthcare system is represented by the State Autonomous Institution "Kotovskaya Dental Clinic", the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution "Central Regional Hospital of the Kotovsky Municipal District", which includes a children's clinic, a clinic, 5 local hospitals, 14 medical and obstetric stations. The cultural and leisure activities of the district are carried out by 118 club formations, in which 1,404 participants participate.
